Cheaper than the amazon deal, but it's digidirect and not silver. With that said, I was in the Sydney King St store yesterday and saw the black one displayed. There's definitely stocks going around.

This post will have 200+ stars 6-12 months ago. Saw some x100vi on ebay for $5000+ 🙄🙄🙄🤣🤣🤣

    • You should have seen the LE. $7000 😂

      • I sold mine LE for $6150 on ebay.
I had bought the x100vi for using it but looking at the crazy pricing on ebay, decided to sell it and put the extra money into a new GFX body

        • Good decision haha. The guy who got serial 001 was thinking of selling it too, but I think he decided to just use it. People were like - whut.

        • Wow, I thot it s just crazy asking price but not realised. But ur living breathing proof. I saw some sold one for $10k, I Thot it was a bait.

          • +1

@Bargain-er: My serial number was #1230, I feel its a good number too. I listed for $6500 but it wasn't moving so sent private offers with 5% off and it sold within an hour. Also only gave 0.99c to ebay as it was part of promo selling offer.
            win-win!

            • @jedimaster: Did you ship or the buyer came to pick up? I have lots of unused items but feel like shipping would be too risky given how prevalent dodgy people received stuff but claimed it’s not as described. Of course it also happened on the seller side as well.

              • +2

@GreenRomeo: I ve been shipping so far but I know what u mean… It s sad how our society went downhill. Used to be naive until I got scammed arnd covid time.

              • @GreenRomeo: Buyer was in St Kilda($$) so seemed like a safe suburb to ship to otherwise might have delivered it personally if within Melbourne. Sent with Auspost express with insurance upto $2k

    • I don't get it. What's so special about this camera?

      • +1

tiktok made it popular but its a good camera with lots of film simulations

        • What makes it any better than a Fuji X-Pro 3 or XT5?

          • +1

@SirFrankGrimes: More tiktok influencers use it

            • +5

@mandelbrot: Thanks for helping me make my decision. XT5 or X-Pro 3 it is then

              • @SirFrankGrimes: Yeah, I'll stick with my full frame dslr

              • @SirFrankGrimes: Be warned : X-Pro 3's have display issues due to the hinge design.

you're better off with X-Pro 2, or XH-1. Former is rarer, latter could be had for sub 1k and has IBIS.

                • @dukeGR4: X-Pro 2 is a beauty. Definitely worth collecting one just to put on the shelf for admiration

                  • @trantonz: but it's meant to be used! it's my beater camera atm.

          • @SirFrankGrimes: X100 series is fixed lens

          • @SirFrankGrimes: feature wise and performance wise? go with XT5 or Xpro3

I have the T version of this camera, and it has been my constant companion for almost 10 years, mainly because of its compact size, versatility, and the appealing rangefinder design.

My other camera that come close and my second favourite is Ricoh GR3, but I find I missed the dials and the viewfinder of X100. and thus I upgraded to X100VI.

          • +1

@SirFrankGrimes: Fujifilm x100 series, Ricoh GR series are for folks who want a good JPG image straight out of camera(sometimes with film simulation applied in camera), want a lightweight/smaller body and a small fixed lens.

Very different market compared to one who wants x-pro 3 or xt5.

Ricoh GR IIIx is the lightest aps-c camera in the market and is the #1 seller in compact cameras segment in Japan. Weighs just 262g. Fujifilm x100vi is bulky comparatively at 521g but still lighter than X-T5 which is 557g for body only.

            • @jedimaster: Thanks. I might check out the GR IIIx since it's so light and compact. My full frame weighs 1.5kgs body only. Lol

              • @mandelbrot: oh my which camera is that? has to be a pro-brick right? mine weighs 930g and I thought that's a lot - but 1.5kg?!

      • +1

Extremely good camera for $1000 but not $2700… You ever wonder why pleanty of Japanese company colapsable..

  • +7

Was after one of these for a very long time - but now refuse to support the artificial stock scarcity Fuji did for this camera and the insane scalper market for it ( I still bought an x-m5 kit though lol)

    • +3

Artificial? This was the most preordered camera in history how exactly were they supposed to fill the demand at launch? Not interested in defending fuji but wondering where this line of thinking is even coming from it’s not Rolex.

I ordered mine a week after launch from Digital Camera Warehouse and got it in two weeks via a queueing system not a lottery. Didn’t seem ridiculous by any stretch.

      • +2

I’m not talking launch, the stock shortage was consistent for months. Admittedly I did not place a pre-order at any point in time as no one could give me a solid date (even with me having an old contact through an ex workmate at a camera house)

      • +17

Fujifilm's CEO said that the current production capacity is "normal". They don't want to overproduce because it would lead to lower prices or in other words worse branding for them.

That translates to yep the shortage is our strategy.

        Not cool

        • +1

If they can increase the price a certain amount, the total gain in profit outweighs the loss from volume of sales. It's an anticompetitive red flag when it's a monopoly but companies for sure will take the opportunity when it presents a more natural plausible deniability situation.

You see it happen a bit. E. G. There was a reddit thread once about how big maple syrup was complaining about poor yield but all the small batch producers on reddit were like yield is great these big companies are so dumb lol. Fits the price control narrative pretty well to me.

        • That's true of any product though that's popular on release though. Ramping up production on something as complex as a camera post-release is extremely hard when it turns out to be popular, and likely the supply shortages will only last a few months. That said, Fuji have already said they're increasing production - only problem is that takes months to do.

          • @freefall101: Good thing about a free market: Fujifilm's competitors are not waiting for months to jump in. We will see what's gonna happen to Fujifilm. At the end of the day it's not Rolex.
I have 3 fujifilm cameras. Love the product, hate the company strategy.

            • @trantonz: What would be a good competitor to this camera?

              • +1

@R-Man: Ricoh GR. Not an orange to orange comparison but they're considered by the same group of enthusiasts

        • +1

Yes, the V was $1700, or $2000 max at start of covid.

way overpriced for a fixed lense.

          Just get a GR2 ricoh

    • How's the XM-5?

      • Quite fun actually. Great size and weight overall especially when bundled with Tt artisan 27 2.8 (no image stabilisation though).

    • +1

Yeah this artificial scarcity BS put me right off. Still, I'm looking at deals on an XT-30II and the 27mm pancake - the X-M5 has the newer film simulations, but no EVF. :(

    • I was patiently waiting for the older models to drop to bargain basement prices, which it absolutely was on course for. Own a bunch of film range finder cameras, which I love using - and saw this as a nice relatively compact digital camera that could give me a similar experience.

Turned down a X100T for $350, as it had a few scuffs on the body. Thought I could get the T for sub $300, they were floating around the $400 mark at the time. Then TikTok blew it up, and I'm not sure if I'll be able to see those prices for a very, very long time - if ever.

  • I still have the prior iteration of this, grew up with film rangefinders, then fully manual and AF SLRs, then DSLRs. I find the current prices of these things comical. Have a friend in the US who's had one on order for at least six months now.

  • Anyone know if Amazon usually eventually match the price inclusive of the coupon (ie worth waiting for Amazon)? Looking at another camera which would be cheaper with the digidirect coupon :)

    • +2

Never price match - i did ask before

  • I own the original of this series which I bought second hand for maybe 600 at the time and it seems crazy high to me to pay this much for an aps-c fixed lens camera.

This isnt a downvote though, I genuinely haven't kept track of camera prices for 5 years or so. I dread to look and see the prices of everything else these days.

  • I remember when trying to buy my FujiFilm X100s it was hard to source not because of demand out stripping supply but little supply because of low demand. I had to travel to Melbourne just to find a camera store that stocked it.

I am weary of digi direct. Every single time I’ve ordered something in stock from their website I’ve received an email saying it’s out of stock and has a 3 week wait time. I’ve made the mistake at least twice now and wouldn’t risk it again.

    • True. Price match or in-store is better in this case I think.

    • i've waited over 3 months for items they listed in stock the entire time.

  • anyone know if they have it in stock or you are placed on a waiting list?

    • I went to the King St branch yesterday and saw one on display. They probably have a few at the back. Better to go in-store if you can or call first.

  • +5

Do not trust their in stock. you will be lucky if you can receive it in 4 weeks.

  • +1

Surely at this price It needs to have a Leica logo on it.

  • +1

Never digidirect again _ they will hold your money 1-3-6 months at least

  • Ended up buying the S9 instead of this because of the price/scarcity issue, and v happy with the decision, the lut integration is great.

    • How's the S9?
JPEGs image quality and did not having mechanical shutter affect the quality?

      • how does not having mechanical shutter affect IQ lol…

and it's a modern camera, with a modern lens mount (and lenses), IQ is just fine.

if you want absolute IQ, L-Mount is actually the way to go, 50mm Lumix F1.4 or Leica 50mm APO.

  • Just because you can add it to cart, doesn't necessarily mean they have it in stock. I ordered a black x100v, not vi, back in 2020 on release from digidirect and still had to wait 6-7 weeks. So this was before these cameras had any hype and there was STILL a long wait time. In saying that, the x100 series has always had iffy availability.

I got lucky and secured my x100vi from amazon 2 weeks after release but I ain't waiting 6 months for this camera. I'd happily be using a Nikon Zf or Panasonic S9 instead.

  • +1

For those still looking for stock, not sure how accurate this is but the black is showing in stock ships today. Silver not so lucky.

    https://www.rubbermonkey.com.au/FujiFilm-X100VI-Digital-Came…

  • amazon still.has black in stock and check out with 10% off gc. price will be 2515

  • +3

Good price but i consider buying used items on ebay to be more reliable and less shady than digidirect. Lying about stock, keeping your money for months, too many hoops for warranty claims, not informing customers of major data breach. avoid this company.

  • +1

If anyone’s looking for one, be it silver or black.
Keep an eye on the Amazon listing.
Stock has been in and out since just before Christmas.

I managed to grab a silver just before Christmas.

As I post this, black was available with delivery by Thursday (I’m in Brisbane atm)

My old man has a few film based cameras.
I'll have to see what he has.

    They worth anything?

Said he has the first one - brown box..whatever that means?

    Fuji 801?

  • For people who are complaining about the stock levels on Digidirect sales - for any item where you can see Pick Up In Store available on checkout then they will have the stock. if you don't see that, maybe hold off or ping them a message where they'll tell you straight up whether they have it or not. I've had issues with Ted's and CameraPro in the past month where they've sold me inventory that doesn't exist with no ETA so they're not alone on this.

I got my fuji 100V when it was around 1400-1500 few years ago. How time has changed on this line of camera.

  • Blame GxAce on youtube for the crazy prices on the fuji x100 line. Save your money and buy an XT-3 or an XT-4

    • you think GxAce alone is responsible for the cooked prices? he reviews other brands as well.

      Blame the TikTok "influencers" lol.

      • No not alone. However is view count on YouTube for that camera dwarfs anyone elses. And the quality of the content is spectacular. So Id say he is partly responsible for the price hikes.

Same way MetalJesusRocks makes the price of retro games that nobody has heard of skyrocket.

        • well a random lad with robotic voice and robot cosplay with 900k views combined (for X100V and X100VI) cannot be partially responsible for cooking the prices lol.

many insta reels/tiktok could get that many views, and sometimes even more! GxAce is just one of many that leaned into the content creation algorithm imo. People that watch his videos already know what it is.

Same way MetalJesusRocks makes the price of retro games that nobody has heard of skyrocket.

Whilst Fujifilm is not a mainstream brand, they have always been a big deal since the X-Pro 1 and XT-1 came out more than 10 years ago. they received massive coverage by Digital Rev and Dpreview back then too.

So I wouldn't say no one's heard of Fuji. if anything their unique approach to designing cameras and incorporating niche features (film sims, retro dials) is paying dividends now. so it's a combination of many things i reckon.

  • Just out of curiosity, what would an x100-f sell for on the second hand market? ebay fees are ridic so it'd be preferable if it was FB marketplace or scumtree.

    • +1

from eBay Sold price, for X100F, it's about $1500, the T is around $1000, and the V is around 2000
