I own both of these I'll give some input! I think the lens is very versatile, I wouldn't call it compact and light but its good for the range you get. Keeping in mind it is limited to f4 throughout and that's APS-C f4 not full frame f4. Camera is brilliant and ridiculously professional and fun to use but yeah theres definitely better lenses like the 50-140 and the new kit lenses that both do a fantastic job with sharpness and size, the 16-80 slightly compromises to achieve a bit less of both but merges it all into one lens so.

Thank you for your insider info. I noticed that Fujifilm XF 50-140mm F2.8 R LM OIS WR Lens around A$1970 is a bit overkill for me. I am an amateur who needs an light wight and better than iPhone pic quality device with versatile lens. For the new kit lenses, which one do you mean? XF 16-50mm? does it has sharp image? Thank you again.

Yeah! So 100% the 50-140 is really pricey but it is the sharpest lens in fuji's lineup at the moment I'm pretty sure. If you're looking at something nice and versatile and really want just one lens instead of two, the new 16-50 is very sharp and compact as long as you have a camera with IBIS (stabilisation) since the 16-50 lacks OIS, so will be perfectly fine on an xt4/xh2 and later. Also consider looking at the older 16-55 2.8 and the 18-55 2.8-4, theyre not as sharp but still very good and very affordable used.

IMO fujifilm really shines with primes, and they are better than zooms, especially considering the crop.
56mm, 33mm (new ones) are solid performers and give full frame competition run for their money

          • +1

@shabaka: 1000%, the only fuji zoom I found that competes with the primes is the 50-140. Obviously though actually getting the shot in time and having the versatility of the zoom is more valuable to a lot of photographers over sharpness

@fAffY: I agree. however I personally (when I was on Fujifilm which didn't last long) instead of 50-140 I got the 90 f2 prime. 50-140 is also quite dated in terms of design and looks out of place on new bodies like h2 and t5 t50. 90 f2 is phenomenal and often overlooked. resolution that lens delivers is enough to match new 40mp sensors. I handled happily 135mm prime on Canon so I know the FOV, enjoyed it immensely

              @fAffY: The 16-55mm F2.8 is also a stellar zoom.

@shabaka: Totally agree, i own 23 1.4, 56 1.2. These are my 2 go to lens when i am doing wedding outdoor. I also own 60 macro, just all right. Also got holy trinity on zoom which i rarely use these days, thinking of selling some of my fuji lens and xt3s and xt4. Want to upgrade to xt5

f4! doesn't do very well in low light then?

  • +2

Yeh this isn't much of a deal. You'll note the XH2 body only is back up to $2920 whereas it was as low as $2279 not long ago (and tbh it should stay this price and not ever rise back up, people sell used ones for $1750, no way is a new XH2 worth anywhere near the $3k price anymore…
So $2999 is basically the same as buying the camera at $2279 and adding the cost of the 16-80/4.
And about that lens… look.. its ok, but it is f4, its a bit of a one trick pony and that would be landscape. I would fund the Tamron 17-70/2.8 instead.

    • I agree that Fujifilm is not providing value for money lately, not for stills anyway. refurb Canon Eos R gives 30mp full frame sensor and size wise matches this x-h2, while providing amazing image quality with more detail. was $1200 on Ted's cameras sale, with 1yr warranty (add $99 for 2 yr)

what were the main benefits of crop vs full frame again? smaller bodies? not anymore. smaller lenses? well, all the good glass is rather chonki even on crop. cheaper? not the case with latest fuji.

so what's the point really. pro3 has its very narrow target audience, and t50 does to a degree, x100v(i) too although I had it and don't get the hype.

h2 and t5 are supposed to be the "pro" options, but if one can have full frame with same weight and cheaper, who is it for? puzzling

      • incidentally today one can get a brand new RF 50 1.8 lens for $257 delivered (eBay promo). yeah it might not match similar FOV counterpart XF 33mm 1.4, but hey, it's cheaper, lighter, and at the comparable aperture with a similar subject separation, the jury is still out if image quality is significantly worse. so once again, what are really the benefits of crop system here.

yeah fujifilm pro cameras are built like tanks, I appreciated that when I had one. but ergonomics suck, Canon does it much better, too.

        • I'm with you. I think you have to be a little mental to be with Fujifilm today. When I got into them the XT4 was great, but since then the branding has changed and they've lost any 'value' assigned to them, they are riding on the tiktok and exclusivity trend, they are a fashion camera with pricing accordingly.
Personally I shoot professionally with 2x XH2S's, I do hybrid work and need stacked sensor technology. The size of sensor doesn't really bother me, it's about value, 2x full frame stacked sensor cameras is just very prohibitive, so the XH2S has a kind of unique place in the market giving a good return on investment.
I think when Canon bring out their new R7 (said to be stacked), that's gonna make waves and we'll likely see many people ditch Fuji (and their questionable AF) in favour of a Canon stacked sensor at a similar affordability ratio (guessing here..) Really it will come down to pricing, lens choice and good AF vs fuji colour science, lots of lens choice but poor AF.
But yeh, anything non XH2S from Fuji just seems a bit of a rip off today…

@dunker56: yes I was recently going o-seas and was toying with the idea of getting a body for video work and doing TRS for it and H2S was the prime candidate p much. it's the only fuji body that I could justify getting today. in the end, I didn't do it as I didn't see a good deal, and AF.. and R7 mii coming.. you know exactly what my thought process was.
