Excellent night vision camera (no IR required), provides decent colour image at night with a little ambient light like moonlight or nearby streetlamp. From the research I did a while ago, this model provides better night image than the 4K version.

Integrates with Home Assistant and used the Reolink software which is decent enough. Been using mine for over half a year (was RRP $169.99 back then, bought at $115) and very happy with it. Just picked up a second one for more complete coverage of the front yard.

RRP $139.99
Currently at Reolink 15% off $118.99
Currently at Reolink eBay 20% off $111.99
Slightly cheaper than OzBargain ATL $98.55 https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/876853

  • … I could use another CX410. As a treat.
I poked around to find these cheaper the other day and couldn't, even in packs or on Aliexpress.

I don't know if these 'facts' are accurate, but people say that the normal/IR camera filter swapping is a failure point in cameras, that the sensor on the higher rez version of this camera is the same size making the low-light accuracy much worse, and that bullet cameras last the longest mechanically. This seems to be perfect "bang-for-buck" camera at the moment.

    • got it for $77 shipped back during aliexpress sales

      • I'm jealous, I was just checking a couple days ago. Hopefully it drops again at some point in the future.

        • Currently available on AliExpress for US$61.33 or AU$98.69.

Should go lower on upcoming New Years sales. Has been sub US$60 for most of the past two months using a combination of coins and codes.

  • "From the research I did a while ago, this model provides better night image than the 4K version." My research on YT reveals the same.

  • New to this, can someone recommend a decent hub to connect this device?

It's a POE camera so you can either get an injector or similar or connect it to a POE switch unless you want to splash out on a NVR. I started off with a basic Tenda POE switch which did the trick and I think I paid about $40 for the 10/100. You don't need the Gigabit version unless you are using other devices on the switch as the cam's don't get to that speed (hence why the ports on the cams and NVR are 10/100). That being said I've since changed out my POE switches to Ubiquiti 8 port ultra compact (only 4 of the ports are POE) as it's more integrated into my network plus you can VLAN the cameras to isolate them from the rest of the devices if needed.

The main thing you need to consider with POE is the the budget. Check the POE usage of the cameras. General POE with LED's from memory are 11-12W (higher for the trackmix or those with motors) and basic switches are between 50-60W so you can only run 4 cameras (at peak usage) even it if was 8 port.

The image clearly shows LEDS on the front of it. So what are they for?

    • They're warm white LEDs. They can be used as a spotlight that turns on when it detects motion, on a schedule, or triggered by an integration like via Home Assistant.

    • They are spotlights you can optionally configure to turn on using one of 3 modes:
      1. timer mode for scheduled periods
      2. auto mode based on ambient lighting for optimal night vision
      3. smart mode when an event is detected during scheduled periods and also adapt brightness for accurate detection in low-light conditions

    • my reolink 'colour night vision' camera simply turns on LED lights at night based on settings, like a spotlight.

  • I picked up the wireless version of this, the CX410W from the Reolink Aliexpress store for ~A$100 in July 2024. Yes it's got better low-light vision than other cameras at the price point when not using IR LEDs, but still very underwhelming in my opinion. It particularly struggles if there is a bright spot in one part of the image (e.g. a small LED device readout / light), then what happens is the entire remainder of the image is very underexposed and almost black.

  • Whats a good value NVR people are using for IP cameras?

    • From my knowledge (but I could be wrong) most physical NVR's are proprietary so will only connect/support their own cameras. Some ONVIF cameras "might" connect to other NVR's but they seem to have their own adaption of H264/H265 which really doesn't make sense as it's meant to be a standard. I just know from playing with Frigate Reolink had specific settings for their cameras and from other forums people couldn't get the camera's detected on other NVR's.

You could use something like Blue Iris which seems to support different vendors.

      • Reolink NVR has a setting to enable support for other brand devices that support the open source ONVIF protocol

    • Reolink nvr works great and is pretty cheap. Also works locally only which is nice.

      • "locally only"? They are accessible from the internet or not depending on how the user sets them up.

    • You can use one of the Reolink NVR models, or pop an SD card in the camera and use it directly, or you can also use the UniFi NVR now that they support 3rd party ONVIF cameras too.

If you want a software solution, you could try Frigate NVR too.

I would pay a little more and get a dual lens camera like this. Once you go dual lens panoramic, its hard to go back. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006034130181.html?spm=a2…

    • can this work with Reolink NVR?

2K version is better if the ambient light is low. If you have good street lighting or outdoor lights then definitely go for the CX810 4K version. I tried the CX410 while waiting for the CX810 to come out and it is now in a box waiting to become a sky cam watching the weather and night sky.
