I had this fan and love it. Not enough to marry it though.
The fan is pretty quiet though I still got a hum on the lowest settings. Probably due to frequency interference from my power supply. It has wifi and an app. Great for when you forget to turn it off and have left the room. No HomeKit support sadly.
I paid $30 more back in September at DJs.

Careful about marrying it, some fans get noisier over time.
They are the onlyFans you dont want to marry
This fan blows either way though
A true Ozbargainer….wait EOFY25 sale for lower price. Be prepared for 2025/26 summer🤑
A true OzB will go to Kmart and get one for $19. My $19 one would push the exact same amount of air as this $119 one would.
Same here I bought a Arlec fan from Bunnings for around $30 about 3 years ago run it day and night and it’s still going strong
I find the feet on the cheapies don't last. The first thing to go is the white caps at the ends, then the thing metal folds in and the whole thing wobbles. We have timber floors they scratch bad.
We've gone through so many $20 fans we now have decent ($100) DC fans that have lastest years and look to have plenty of life left.
Yeah I think a quality DC fan will work out better value in the long run
@Ronnnie: The OP's isn't a DC one, is it?
Nothing a bit of tape won't fix (the scratching)
@heef: Not with 3 yr olds in the house. They have a tallent for breaking things. The solid base on other fans work better for us.
Pre-children the $20 fans were great -
I second this - drive a round verge collection and see how many Kmart fans are out on the verge. These are more expensive but considering how much longer they last, worth the expense.
What I did with my 2 older $14 white fans was attach them to the wall in my garage/workshop.
Hint: Take the base and pole off before you do.😁
I just got a Click 40cm at Bunnings for $16. Very quiet and fan function works.
Also got a stylish Arlec 40cm with fake wood effect for $89. So so loud. NEVER AGAIN!!
You're missing out on the pointless app
But this one has a $15 wifi controller chip, also phillips has to make money off it to fund owner's yatch and private planes.
A true ozbargainer should already have 2x vornados
Hahaha I have 1 - not yet an OZB elder 😢
I cannot believe people buy these fans. But then again I was young once and so silly to impress my friends for "the latest scientifically proven device"
Same price in Amazon but with free delivery. Also noticed they've lowered the 2000 series' price to $94 (it was $99 last time I checked).
It seems the only difference between 2000 and 3000 series is the wifi feature of the latter. Anything else?
Ah. Annoying it certainly is. I had to split up to 2.4 and 5 just to keep my 2.4 only devices happy.
Why would that be useless?
they probably have zero other smart devices lol
They probably don't know how to turn off band steering on their router
2.4 is the standard for IoT devices…
Forgive my ignorance but what makes this 10 times better than a $14 fan from K-mart? I definitely would not be using wifi controls, thats more hassle than simply pushing the button…
Fan blade design and motor.
Having had a Kmart fan and I can tell you that the fan does not move that much air and the motor isn’t designed to be quiet or last. The Kmart fan lasted two summers and the motor burnt out, most probably due to needing it to be on the highest setting all the time.
and bearings
Rubbish, my Kmart fan circulates amazingly and I have had it 7 or 8 years. It also gives a nice fan noise to dose off to sleep too.
Nah, those $15 kmart/bigw etc fans are terrible. Half the nation’s landfill is made up of them.
@Mike Nolan: Oh well, not mine, and going strong.
I've had a sub-$15 black Big W Fenici (I assume similar quality to what Kmart/Big W offer today) fan for 10 years now. All that's broken on it is the plastic height adjustment screw. Chucked a few layers of duct tape around the shaft at the height I want it and it's still going today.
Gets used for extended periods daily, even in winter.
Its difficult to compare something that looks like a fan to a product like this.
Buy this Phillips and put a $14 kmart fan next to it. It will end up as it was intended; to be sold and put on landfillQuality of components
Efficiency
Noise
DurabilityIf you have enough space to fit 5 of the cheap fans you are fine to do so, however the noise would be intolerable.
Pedestals take up a lot of space so just buy a good one and enjoyyes life is too short to use cheap, noisy fan.
do it once, do it right
Cry once hard or cry all the time :-)
@scarface: What if I just alternate?
Looking to balance cry endurance vs cry power.
Had a cheap kmart fan. It died in the middle of a sweltering night. My room didn't have a fly screen. Choice was to sleep in an oven, or because mosquito fodder. Barely slept. At the time, no big retailers had stock of cheap fans as it was towards the end of summer.
Hint: At $15 you buy 2 fans. Simple.
I'm quite happy to spend more for a quality product over kmart stuff but this Phillips doesn't even use a dc motor. If you are spending this much on a fan you would want a dc motor that uses less power and is quieter.
Could you explain why DC fans are quieter than AC ones?
I can't explain why, but my stupidly expensive fans I bought are whisper quiet. The noise is almost entirely air movement related rather than the fan blades whizzing or the motor hum.
I can't hear the motor, and it's just a rush of air.
I spent more than this Phillips, but not much (125?) and it has wifi and google home integration (it also has a temperature sensor so I can check the temp of my room and if I cared to I could get a portable battery to make it a fully wireless fan for a night, though the temp sensor isn't integrated into Google home sadly).
I can't remember what I bought, but every time I buy one (I've got 3) I feel like a chump due to the price. But as someone that cannot sleep with fan noise it really is amazing and I can actually sleep.
Can't remember what it's called, but I think the one I got is a rebranded Xiaomi fan (it's cheaper than the Xiao mi).
I haven't seen any other DC fans other than the Xiao mi, and the … Dreamcatcher(?? Something like this) but I'm also not looking anymore because I've found my forever fan.
Don't get it if you need full blast 24/7, but if you need a breeze overnight and want (close to) zero noise, go DC fan.
@MeateaW: I have two Kogan ones (one new and one old model). Both are DC, and both are quiet. I also have a Ryobi one (DC too), but it's so noisy. So I think "quiet" is caused by the build quality or wing form, not because of the motor type.
@Averell: Have you tried changing the blades between the quiet and loud fans? They should be compatible. It could be an interesting test.
Does it have a remote? I’m frankly just sick of getting out of bed to turn mine off at 3am. But also don’t want to have to open up an app to do it either.
Physical remote, no. You'll have to do it via the app.
Why not put a smart plug or if already have WiFi set a Auto off timer
Yeah perfect use case for a $20 smart plug e.g tapo
or even better, automate it via a temp sensor to turn itself off when at a determined temperature
This is the way
Could you recommend some temp sensors?
Thanks@Averell: I use these (Zigbee version) https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005007663604092.html, but I'm sure the wifi version would be ok. Then you can set up an automation in the Tuya Smart Life app
Because my wifi cuts in and out during hot weather, and if I’ve got the fan on that means it’s hot weather. So I need a remote, not something that relies on wifi. But also why spend over $100 on a fan then buy a smart plug just to have a remote, when I can cut out the middle man and buy a fan with a remote?
Sounds like your first purchase should be a nice wifi ap, or improve the airflow around your existing one.
@OzzyBrak: I just want to turn it off when it gets colder at night without having to get up, nothing wrong with its airflow, it just has to be manually switched off. I’m looking for an easy one touch, not opening my phone opening an app and looking at a screen to switch it off. So yeah this isn’t the product for me, plenty have remotes so I’ll look at those.
@mickiskye: I’m not arguing for or against this fan. I’m only pointing out that standard residential indoor temperatures should have no impact on wifi connectivity.
If you are having issues it is likely that your existing hardware either needs better airflow (dust removed, nothing sitting on under or close behind it) or you need a brand new unit.
As a seperate matter I’d argue that an automated system that turns off your fan when the temp reaches a certain level is great to have (with or without a dedicated remote).
I bought this fan on amazon black friday and returned it the following day. It doesn't have power memory, so when its switched off at the wall, it won't turn back on when powered. Also the height adjustment is either really tall, or remove a leg extension and its quite short. I am waiting on delivery for the yarratwo from amazon.
Shame the voime won't link to alexa or I would have got more of them. So, it's not going to work with any smart plugs?
No remote.
There is a timer option though both physically and on the app, where you set how long you want it on for.
Or just scheduled your preference on the app.I got a fan from target that came with remote for $35 few years ago for my home theater, then I used a WiFi IR remote from kogan ($9) which now controls my fan, projector, amplifier. I control it via Google assist and it's routines
Might be cheaper to get a fan with remote which usually under $40 and then a cheap WiFi IR remote under $10. Sync then both and ola.
https://www.amazon.com.au/Philips-Ultra-Quiet-SilentWings-Te…
Same price if you want free delivery with Prime.
3 speeds suggest its not a DC fan though.
damn i just checked, it's AC lol.
Overpriced mediocrity…with Wi-Fi. As a general rule 3 fan speeds = AC motor = hum.
Unfortunately the Kambrook KPF849WHT appears to have been discontinued and quality DC pedestal fans are hard to find these daysSo I have a non wifi version. It definitely pushes a lot of air and the lowest speed is adequate 90% of the time.
BUT the first thing I noticed was the motor hum. My brain has learnt to ignore it mostly but it took a couple weeks, prior to that it really bothered me. My partner never noticed or cared.
Be wary if you're particularly sensitive to motor hum noises/as early days it even made me feel… Off. But I did get used to it. The motor hum is present on all speeds.
The fan is rated as 19dB on the lowest setting which is quieter than leaves rustling. If you can be bothered using an app to measure, I'd be interested to know if that's true.
Whatever happened to the OzBargain favourite, the Xiaomi Mijia ones? Seems like they've stopped making them? I was looking to get one but you can only import them expensively through AliExpress now…
Otherwise, it'd be better to just get a cheapo fan and pair it with a smart plug.
Any good?
Pretty good. I had them for 4 yrs. Natural wind mode is quite nice during mild weather
Don't know anything about the Kogan. I have five of the Xiaomi but the battery failed in one and replacements appear to be unavailable. They're excellent fans, aethetically neutral, quiet and easily cleaned. I know a yarratwo (via Amazon) owner but haven't yet checked it out in-person.
I wish they would come back, the battery is really useful if I need it somewhere else in the house for a while.
Good point, whatever happened to Xiaomi gear? Seemed like they were making appliances for every conceivable application and then suddenly silence.
"It has an app"
Humans are doomedSome fans have remotes?
It's not so much the app as being able to control it using automation. I often want to fall asleep with the fan on, but don't want to have it on all night, so I set it to turn off around an hour after I expect to fall asleep. First-world problem, I know, but why deny yourself the creature comforts of modernity if it's easily and cheaply available? Luddite much?
Sure.
So looking fwd to dunny paper with an app so ppl can master the efficient usage of, count how much is used per visit, reminder when to order, speed of application of wipe etc.??Luddite vs pampered molly coddled, tech addicted (profanity) generation? LOL, I'll take the luddite. Thanks
DC?
I wish they made this in white, can barely find any white pedestal fans with wifi app
Bunnings have Arlec in white. DC motor & wifi
My brother that's a ceiling fan
They definitely used to stock $99.00 "Arlec 40cm White Grid Connect Smart Remote Controlled Pedestal Fan". I got one last year and I bought another one about 2 months ago. Both controlled with Alexa.
However, it seems as if they may only have em for a few weeks then don't restock till next summer? The exact same is also sold as "Stirling" brand.
@deltakilo: $49 Arlec 40cm DC fan that is rarely in stock. Remote only. Still doesn't go slow enough for my liking. https://www.bunnings.com.au/arlec-40cm-dc-w-remote-pedestal-…
It's not even DC!!! , i have been using kogan DC fans for 4 years pkys (the previous model not the current one) & it's truly amazing
Form over function. Manufacturers have realized it is more profitable if you get a $50 fan, add Wi-Fi and make it look sleek you can charge 2-3x the price. My sister recently purchased the current model Kogan DC fan and immediately regretted selling her Kambrook DC on gumtree 4 years ago. They don't make them like they used to.
I absolutely love the Kogan fan with a remote. It was around the $100 dollar mark, so many speed options, quiet if needed, strong if needed. Can't see why adding Wifi would make it better.
I'd happily buy another if they still had them, think we paid 80.
A $50 DC is probably better than this?
Link?
Read the reviews
@PiperDan: Too small of a sample size to really form an opinion? The problem with online reviews in general is people usually only review these products when they have something negative to say while the ones without any issues or happy with a product don't leave a review. Couple of positive reviews and a couple of negatives is almost meaningless? I expect though that a cheap DC fan could potentially still be better than an expensive AC one.
How is this even possible???
1 out of 5 stars.
Fans spins opposite direction
I bought this today and the fan spins the opposite direction blowing the air behind it rather than infront. Only one way to put it together so the find are on correctly.I bought this a year ago and yes it did have a ticking noise which I couldn't find the source of. It actually went away and is now nice and quiet. I do wish setting 1 was slower.
FWIW, I bought a couple of "Stirling" fans from Aldi a few years back. DC. 15 speed. Remote control. Apart from changing the power supply on 1 of them, they have been very good. Not sure if you can get em now though.
https://stirlingappliances.com.au/product/wifi-pedestal-fan-…
man that looks cool yea.. i think i'll skip this fan.. expensive and basic.. wait for a decent dc fan to go on sale hehe
That's the same model that Bunnings sells as "Arlec Grid Connect" however you gotta be quick, they don't seem to stock them all year.
Has basic functionality working with home assistant (you can turn it on / off change the modes). They don't seem to have worked out syncing the status so you probably can't do automations very well.

I had this fan and love it. Not enough to marry it though —> okay cool story.
The fan is pretty quiet —> this part is enough reason for me to marry it even tho i dont love it
