This or the impress w/ assisted tamping?

    • +1

impress is just the express model with the assisted tamper; if you just want to pull a coffee in the morning real quick with as little work required as possible; definitely the impress is fuss free and cheaper from memory (not the touch screen one) - impress however uses the older thermo tech so it takes a bit to get ready to steam milk compared to the pro from reviews.

I use the pro at my brothers place, i use an oracle at home

    • +1

This, definitely not the impress, unless you're considering spending more and getting the touch impress (was $1200 black friday).

    • I've had the Impress Express for ~2 months. First manual machine after 10+ years of Nespresso. My wife says it does as good as he gave cafe, so that's a win for me. The heat up time is negligible. Steam wand takes maybe 15-20 secs to get to usable steam. Not a problem for me - takes about the same time as we did with the Nespresso

      • Nothing wrong with that machine, but the pro has baratza burrs and more grind settings as well as the thermojet among other things.

Barista express impress has the assisted tamping as is less messier, but I would rather tamp as use a wdt tool.

    • I would get impress actually, pro doesn’t have many benefits IMO.

      • +1

Pro has thermojet, better grinder, better steam wand.

If you don't care about those and want something that makes puck prep a little easier get the impress.

@itsmoe: I've not bought this model for any amount of months and it's been acceptable.

I have had this model for 37 months and its been great.

      • I've had mine for 72 months and it's still fantastic.

    • Got the express pro from the eBay refurb store a few months ago after waiting for some time. Took a while to have the settings just the way we like it, but after that really, really good and consistent.

Always worth keeping an eye on the Breville eBay refurb store. Ours looked brand new in box. I had to keep watching until an express pro turned up, and the outlet price was $749.There was only one so I didn’t post, but it had coupon discount to $674.

There isn’t anything of interest ATM except 6 barista touch impress for $1439. Which would be a pretty good option if you have the cash.

Probably best bang for the buck, baratza burrs in the grinder and very fast heat up time.

    • +2

I'm tempted but feel like maybe I should divert thoughts to a Dual Boiler? Any reason to get this over that slightly pricier Dual Boiler?

      • +3

Dual boilers were going for just over 1k around Black Friday which will give a considerably better experience. Save up imo

      • Dual boiler if you intend to buy a standalone grinder or already have one.

Get this is you want good coffee, and quickly. It heats up in seconds, not minutes, smaller footprint, single power outlet. The build in grinder can still be useful if you have a separate grinder, you can put a different blend in the hopper (if you don't single dose).

There was an argument that 58mm accessories are more accessible, true if you are particular in certain niche accessories that are not available in 54mm. But practically, every type of accessories is available in 54mm for Breville machines, from distributors to tampers to shower screens to portafilters to puck screens to precision baskets to puck paper filter.

      • Dual boiler 100%. These still use a thermo jet which saves you a few minutes if you suddenly want coffee right then and there. 9/10 you're just after a morning coffee which you can schedule the heat up time each day and a boiler produces better quality coffee

      • If you have the time and extra money for a dual boiler + really good grinder, then go for it.

If you're drinking milk based drinks and are only making one coffee at a time, then the barista pro is hard to beat for the price.

    • Is it has for the "Pro"? Or included in Express and Touch also?

    • The stale beanz.com beans will be good for seasoning your Baratza burrs.

      • +1

Not sure what you mean. The freebie from Beanz was roasted on Friday, delivered the following Monday, could not be more fresh.

    Great machine !
Using for last 11 months 5 /6 cups a day.
Use couple of teaspoons of citic acid granules mixed in a liter of water and use it to desacle every couple of months.
Also please check whether a backfush silicone seal (without a hole) is supplied.
If not contact customer service to send one free of charge..
    Back flush every fortnight.
I bought black model for $839 IN 2023

  • For an office situation I am guessing the impress would be a better option? Less skill required and less mess?

  • +3

For anyone buying this - make sure you check the manual burr grind setting accessible at the top of the grinder (this is separate to the 'digital' setting you can adjust using the knob).

My friend and I both had this set way too high out of the box, so we could never get the grind as fine as we needed, resulting in sour coffee. I wasted half a kilo of beans before I realised this, but since making the adjustment I've had no complaints.

    • Completely agree! Came from the factory with inner burr setting of 6, which would not do a good coffee on the finest outer grind setting. Could only get a decent coffee after changing the inner grind setting to 3.
