Got one of the garage openers. Wouldn’t be without it now!

    • Does it work with multiple garage doors?

      • +3

They simply bridge two points on the garage door with a relay. Need to check if your motor has the "remote switch" terminals .

Could potentially wire a single unit and extend the included wires between all of your motors on a parallel circuit to save money, or buy multiple smart openers, to be able to individually control one door at a time.

EDIT: it also uses a magnet sensor to know when your door is open or closed. That will only work for one door. So probably best to buy a unit for every door/motor you have for best stability

        • Yeah, I did see that one but it seems to only support 2.4GHz wifi and right now I’ve combined my 2.4GHz and 5GHz into one network, so wasn’t sure if it would be compatible.

          • @praneet: Pretty much all home automation devices use 2.4GHz

          • @praneet: It will be fine. You can always just turn 5ghz off while pairing.

I bought a 4 pack of their smart switches and a 4 pack of smart lights about 4 years ago. Switches are all working well but none of the lights work properly any more.

    • Yeha i have a Meross smart LED strip in the kitchen. despite being easily in wifi reception, it drops out after about 30 minutes. The LEDs still work great, I just have to manually turn on and off which is a pain as that involves uplugging the barrel jack.
Same experience as you, the smart outlets have basically never dropped out ever.

  • Are all the prime boxing day deals starting at midnight?

  • Does this work with homelink?

    • No :'(

  • Serious question. Why do you need wifi control of your garage door? When would you use it over your normal garage remote ?

    • +8

The Meross one integrates with HomeKit which means it shows up on your CarPlay interface when you’re within a certain radius of your home and you can open the garage with a single tap before you arrive home.

I also use it when I’m going out and don’t want to carry around my massive set of keys.

It’s also been handy when we’ve been out and the parents pop over before we get home: we can open the garage and let them in while we’re still in the way home.

And then of course there’s the “ cr4p I forgot to close the garage door before we left on our weekend away” situation where it’s been useful at least half a dozen times so far

our postie has shut ours on numerous occasions. I should get one & give him the app save him getting off his bike

        • +2

The app reminds you the door is open, you can shut it remotely. Add a security camera looking outwards for extra benefits.

      • "shows up on your CarPlay interface when you’re within a certain radius of your home"

Does it work like that on your iphone? i dont have carplay but have the non homekit version. wondering if i bite the bullet and make the switch, i have to open the meross app on my phone each time

        • You can tell Siri to "open Sesame" which gets actioned via HomeKit

    • +2

Sometimes you forget the remove or misplace the remote, sometimes the remote battery goes out when you need it the most. Your phone essentially becomes a remote with voice commands if you use HomeKit.

$50 for convenience and as a back up.

    • +1

In addition to the points above: garage door remotes are stupidly expensive; you can open the door via voice assistant (phone or wearable) if you don't have CarPlay or Android Auto.

    • It can alert you if you accidentally left your garage door open. You can remotely open it for friends who need to pick up something from your house.

      • Add keyless entry from garage into house and grant access to anyone, including those leaving the house with phone but without keys.

    • Go out with just a phone or smart watch, no keys/wallet.

    • Tie it to an automation with smart light in the garage, open the garage, turn on the lights. Invaluable at night.

    Not the above price

  • I have 2 and one or both will lose WiFi connection regularly. Have tried various things but no permanent solution yet. Pretty much useless when it loses WiFi connection.

    • Happens to me every 6 months, so I just put a cheap bunnings timer on the powerpoint to turn 'off' at 0500 every morning for 15min. Resets it daily. Suboptimal but it works

    • They make one with a higher gain antenna but it gets a few negative reviews

    • They are sensitive to Wi-Fi drop-outs. So if your router reboots or if your Wi-Fi drops out, it's going to need a power cycle. Putting it on a timer for an early-morning reboot, fixes the issue.

        Thanks. will do as suggested.

Does this work with Android Auto so we can use voice assistant or a button on the screen instead of unlocking and using your phone directly?

    • +3

Yeah when I'm driving I say "Hey Google open the garage", it then asks for a pin for confirmation (only when opening). Works very well.

    • Can also add a home assistant shortcut in android auto on screen buttons. Still need to verbally state pin to open door.

  • Don’t we need hub? I got the one it says no need hub requested but cannot remote control the roller door outside. Not sure if I did anything wrong with the setting?

    • If you are trying to use it with HomeKit outside of your local network (i.e phone 4G), you'll need a home hub - if you don't have a Home Hub, and want to use HomeKit, you can't use it outside of your network. Unless you use the Meross app

      • Thanks! Any recommendations for a cheap home hub?

        • Which home automation platform are you using?

          • @sumyungguy: I don’t have any. I only want something to prevent me from forgetting if I haven’t close the garage door when I am outside

    • Recent model AppleTV's can be used as your HomeKit "hub".

      • Currently got an apple tv as ‘hub’. This gives me alerts using apple home app (default apple app)

I can also templet trigger door by logging into home network via vpn. Hope that helps

  • Maybe it's limited by our door opener's interface…using the factory remote it can open/close/pause any time without delay, so the door can be half opened/closed. But using this smart remote it can only fully open or fully close. Have tried varying the timeout as a workaround, a very clunky experience.

Also, the magnetic sensor should reliably tell the app if the door is currently opened or closed. But no, the app sometimes gets confused and shows the incorrect state.

It's a "smart" device and also dumb at the same time. It's great when it works (most of the time) but really frustrating when it doesn't.

A patch on device can't compare to an actual smart garage door opener, but much cheaper, a trade off.

    • You need to "time" (stop watch) your garage door — see how long it takes to open/close. Then log in using the Meross app, to program this duration. Once that's done, you shouldn't get the time-outs any more, and you shouldn't need the Meross app any more.

Give it a few more seconds to close than it actually takes, to allow for a bit of signal lag (e.g. add 5 secs to the actual closing time). I.e. tell it "20 seconds" if your garage door takes 15 seconds to close.

  • Bought the Garage door opener, absolutely love it for around $50 it's been great, took a couple of hours to set up in my case with trying to work out the best place for the sensors etc. but after that it's been faultless. the best thing i have found is the warning to let you know that the door is been open for a certain amount of time and the google assistant features.

  • AFter just losing my garage remote and having to fork out $100 for a new one, I am keen on this!

  • Is it compatible with B&d Panelpro? Couldn’t find in the compatibility link.

    • Here's an alternative product with wiring instructions for PanelPro. I reckon it will work.

  • I bought the non-homekit back in July for $41 and used it for my garage, not to open (as it needs PIN which is annoying) but to close it (sometimes I forgot to close the door) and this is super helpful, especially with the notification and overtime close functions.

    • +1

Assume you're on android? If you remove the open/close sensor magnet so it always reads as open, then set up a Google home macro to send a close signal on a phrase such as "open sesame" it won't ask for a pin and will open if it's closed. It's the apps that care whether it's open or closed, it's the same signal to your garage door either way. It will just toggle to the alternate state.

You lose the door open for too long alert though obviously.

      • That's a good hack! 😁 I have the C210 cam to monitor the door anyway. Thanks for the tips!

  • Have had this over a year now and works flawlessly.
We are in rental and the REA provided only 1 remote and no physical (internal) switch. It was no brainer to add this instead and we all can operate remotely. Only caveat for homekit is that it needs a homepod or hompod mini or apple tv. Previously iPad was an option for homekit hub.

  • had it for over 2yrs, also installed for 2 of my me mates. Its a good garage opener out there

  • No homekit for the plugs, sad

  • Can anybody give me an indication of how difficult this is to install? On a scale of 1-10

    • Only tricky bit for me was adhering the magnetic sensor to my roller door- everything else was 5-10min, no tools.

  • Had the garage opener for 2 years and loving it.
From memory had to reboot it twice, otherwise perfect.
HomeKit integration is smooth and easy to use.

  • Love my Meross garage opener!

  • You'll also need a homepod or apple tv tho right?
