Starlink Mini Satellite Internet Kit $299 (+ $80/Month 50GB Roam, $195/Month Unlimited Roam) + $34 Delivery @ Starlink

1410

Starlink have advertised the Starlink Mini kit for $299 instead of $599 or $799. It is still full price on other sites, so maybe price match. Site says deal is valid till January 30th

Requires $80pm for 50gb roaming subscription, cancel anytime as needed. For more roam data the $195pm is unlimited.

Starlink Mini is designed for connectivity on the go and can easily fit in a backpack. Starlink Mini is a portable, all-in-one compact kit with a built-in Wi-Fi router, lower power consumption, a DC power input, and max speeds over 100 Mbps.

Credit to Dorz for his post, which I basically copied and modified. Thanks for the details and formatting.

The referrer and referee receives bonus credit for a month of standard service, 30 days after the referee activates and keeps their Starlink. Referrals will only issue credits to Standard Plan (Residential) and Mobile Regional (Roam) subscriptions. Kits purchased from a retailer or reseller are not eligible for the referral program. No credit will be given even if a referral link was used during activation.

          • @geekcohen: Use case would mainly be Zoom and Netflix.
Would need the higher stable upload speed for multiple concurrent Zoom.
3 NBN plans would be $300pm (3 locations), $200pm for the mini would be cheaper. $100pm for 5G would be even cheaper.

            • @congo: A lot of people use Starlink for that, but you would have to trial and test yourself. Yes 5G could be cheaper, but as I said, potentially higher latency. You would need to speed test and check to really compare for your location.

Please never go to Starlink if you have 100/40 NBN. It will be slower on all levels and be deprioritised if you actually try to download large files during peak times. Stick with a cheap but reliable NBN provider like Leaptel.

      • Thank you!

      • Please never go to Starlink if you have 100/40 NBN

What if you have an 100/40 NBN plan but only get 60/30?

        • Your ping and packetloss will be alot lower on the 60/30 FTTN NBN still (but if you were actually getting 60/30 just drop down to 50/20 to save $ lol) Id also recommend looking at 5g home internet alternates like Optus or IINET 5g home internet overstarlink as they offer similar speeds for 1/3 the price of starlinks monthly bill.

          • @Churna:

I bailed off the NBN because of the performance. I now have 400/400 for the same cost of an NBN plan ($90 ish a month) and now reliant on NBN outages/maintenance etc. Its limited to my area through a private provider.

Id also recommend looking at 5g home internet alternates like Optus or IINET 5g home internet

I am in a regional area, so 5G home internet wasn't a thing when I was first having these issues nor would it have been suitable because it doesn't provide a static IP (to my knowledge) and I WFH, the 1TB limit on 5G would've been an issue anyway.

      • It will be slower on all levels and be deprioritised if you actually try to download large files during peak times.

What do you mean exactly? Are you saying Starlink throttles downloads or something?

        • during peak times big users are slowed down yeah

          • +1

@Churna: Aren't all providers doing that? I have a fairly high level of usage and haven't had an issue. Ping is around 25-30ms as well, good enough for the gaming I do. I had a worse ping on FTTN

  • so no price match that I can find because the plan needs to be added when ordering.

  • Gen 3 Standard Kit is also on special.

      Regional only…(i.e. Wagga Wagga, etc)

      • +1

        Yes, updated it.

  • +2

I got a price match through Bunnings but they had to add on the $30 shipping so my total came to $296.10

    • was this in-store or online?

      • +1

thanks to bulldoges - did the same, instore + 30 shipping came to 296.10 after pricebeat

      • It was instore.

    • +1

      Well done
I'm 30k from Bunnings so decided not to bother.

    • Same. $296.10

    • could you please share the order receipt? My wife tried to price match at Bunnings just now, but they said they couldn’t do it because it’s part of the Starlink offer. They mentioned they don't price match that. Thanks!

      • +1

Try their online chat. They just did it for me

        • yea, did that in online chat and pick up in store this morning. Thanks

    • Yeah but why plus the shipping cost when you already travelled to their store?

      • Because they're price-beating Starlink. You cannot buy it from Starlink for $299, you can only buy it from them for $329 or $333 so that's what they go off.

        • If you ask bunning to ship, will they charge double delivery fee?

          • @bcYield: No idea, you can try ask them.

            • @eug: $30 shipping fee is a bit of money. If the item is small with lower shipping fee, I think they can ignore. Fair.

              • +1

@bcYield: The point is they're price-beating a competitor - so they're beating the price that you would pay if you bought from the competitor. You're welcome to just pay 10% more and buy it from the competitor instead.

They're already doing bargain-hunters a favour by offering a 10% price beat. Asking for a mile isn't going to help.

              • +1

@bcYield: Its gone to $34 now from Starlink. Honestly, in my view, it is easier to get it from Starlink when you have to go to Bunnings first to do the order and then collect it. Time + Effort would be easier to get it from Starlink. The cost saving wouldn't be worth the time or effort.

  • I hope they decrease it to $100 for unlimited so i can jump on it

    • +1

Unlikely, they increased it from $174 to $195 recently. So unlikely to go under $100 for roaming.

    • +2

That's be nice, I but I can't see it happening

  • Can we take this overseas when on holidays? and does it work in Fiji and India?

    • +1

Yes you can take it overseas
You get 2 months a year allowed outside your country of purchase
      Coverage map here https://www.starlink.com/au/map

    • +2

It can be taken and use overseas, except some countries such China, Taiwan, Russia, North Korea, PNG, Iran, Afghanistan, Syria etc. I checked the roaming map earlier.
Majority of Africa's countries have poor reception.

  • Thanks to mods for adding referral. I don't know how to do it (only my 2nd post)

Do you need to use referral for purchase of kit, or can it be used in the plan activation?

    • You need to use the referral upon purchase and that is then tracked. Then when you activate, you have to pay the full first month and your 2nd month becomes free.

      • Will the referral benefit work if we buy the hardware from Bunnings or Officeworks?

        • +2

It used to, but I believe it doesn't lately. I haven't been able to test and confirm lately.

I often say to people, order via Starlink you pay for delivery but you get an extra month free (still save about $100) and its also linked to your account ready to go. No need to stuff around with KIT IDs and then account setups.

          • +1

@geekcohen: How do you get the extra month free?
Edit: I see through a referral!

    • +1

I forgot to use the referral when ordering so now ive ocntacted support and are trying to find out if its possible to add after the fact.

      • Let us know how you go with this, would be interesting.

        • +1

Had another user tell me that they wont backdate referrals. So if that is the case I suppose i can just cancel and reorder.

        • +2

yeh that's the one I was referring to. I'll wait for a reply from support and if i get the same answer ill just cancel. The order is still pending anyway.

  • JBHiFi didn't price match because they say they don't sell theirs with a required membership

    • +1

Not a fan of this two-tier pricing at the moment.
Surely someone is being rebated the price difference.

    • Considering the item requires an active subscription to function.

  • +1

Any recommendation for a car sunroof mount or tripod or whatever that people use this with?

  • Will work on Cruise ?

    • Yes. Only works about 22kms off shore. Outside of that area, you need the Boat Roaming Plan or pay for priority data which is $3.19 per GB. You need the roaming plan regardless.

      • Thanks wondering between this than and gigsky esim than the internet rates on board are a rip off

    • Most likely the won't allow you to carry it with you. Check their list of banned items.

  • Thanks gaming on the boat sorted!

    • Check your car offshore you are going

Just as an FYI, i literally bought a mini for $599 from JB-HI-FI 2 days ago. Messaged starlink support with "hey i bought a mini 2 days ago for $599 and its gone on sale' they instantly gave me a $300 account credit and closed the ticket before i could respond lol.

    • -1

So probably someone could just message them that even if it isn't exactly true and get the credit.

      • Well, most people wouldn't "qualify" for this. If someone bought it at 599 from the Starlink website or an authorised retailer, they are telling the truth. If they bought it at 299 after the price fall, they are lying and Starlink would know that if they bought it directly from the Starlink. By the sound of it, most people seem to be struggling to price match from an authorised retailer so only very very few people can get away with this but even then, if Starlink asks to produce evidence, then they have none.

    • You have 30 days price guarantee so maybe ask jbhifi in person say you would’ve did a price match with them

    • Wow
That's actually very good support. Amazing.

  • Assume Australia only and will not work overseas?

    • Check out their FAQ.

  • $80pm for 50gb roaming subscription

50GB is very little when I use my pc. Watching a few movies and gone. For roaming, it's attractive tho.

Just signed up with superloop today, wanting to experience the gigabit speed for now. And this is handy as per the more I travel. Wish for ~$100/m unlimited data and don't care much about the speed. Perfect for a journey writer.

  • Managed to get a price beat via Bunnings chat and got it for $269.10 for in-store pick up.

    • On your receipt, can you pls share the Bunnings item number?
      Thanks

  • +1

    Van life necessity

  • Can I take it onto a cruise ship?

    • Why not

    • It won't work much further than about 20 miles offshore. It disconnects as you need a marine plan which is a lot more expensive.

      So fine for coastal cruises.

Don't cruise ships have free wifi?

      • +1

Don't cruise ships have free wifi?

Boy oh boy… wait till you see how much they charge! It must be a good income stream for them as they're definitely protecting it.

        • Well, I learn something new everyday. Thank you for that.

I'm not a fan of cruises. I get bored on a cross channel ferry. So I have no idea how they work

      • It won't work much further than about 20 miles offshore. It disconnects as you need a marine plan which is a lot more expensive.

Or pay for priority data at $3.19 a GB.

I was able to get it price beat at Bunnings for $269.10! Just a tip go on the Bunnings live chat they did it no problems and didn’t add the $30 shipping charge. Stack with my one pass flyby points bonus and it’s a deal. Thanks Op

    • Well done
I wish I'd done that, I'd have it by now.
I bought online from starlink. Should arrive next Monday apparently.
I'm still happy with the deal anyway

    • Am I missing something. I cannot find a link to live chat for Bunnings anywhere lol.

      • +1

Adblocker or similar might be stopping it? I think thats happening to me, private mode it shows. Button right hand corner in a red box "Chat with us".

        • +2

          Thanks for the advice. Worked

          • +1

@Willo06: Same here. Needed to open private browsing window to get the live chat… got price match but with shipping.. $297.. still worth it.

  • Thanks OP, been waiting for the right price for these things.

    Bunnings price beat for $269.10!

  • Hang about - $30 shipping? For a package weighing about 1.5 kg?

    • Flat Rate. Aus Wide. Sometimes comes via DHL from the US if they are out of Australian Stock that comes often via AusPost.

Its been $30 always. Even when the Gen 2s were a lot bigger! and they reduced the size for the Gen 3, still $30.

  • I purchased this as a gift for my parents for an upcoming caravan trip.

It says that it is automatically activated 30 days after delivery. Does anybody know if this is able to be paused or put off? Reason i ask is because their trip is still a few months off and id hate to waste the included 30 day trial.

    • It says that it is automatically activated 30 days after delivery. Does anybody know if this is able to be paused or put off?

Need to do it via the account to "pause" the subscription.

      • Yeah but you cannot postdate the start so you have 1 month from now to give it a use and then pause it and unpause it for later.

  • I just got this email, $50 for 50GB of Roaming for those who have a Starlink Residential (like me).

Starlink is offering a Starlink Mini bundle to select Residential customers through the end of the year. You are invited to purchase a Mini Kit for $299 (previously $599) with the Roam 50GB plan for $50/mo (previously $80/mo).

    Thanks SL!

The Roam 50GB service plan includes 50GB of Mobile data that can be used anywhere in your continent. To keep the discount, you must continue using Residential service with your current Starlink

    • +1

Keep in mind though that pausing is not supported if you bundle.

      https://www.starlink.com/au/support/article/bb5c52bf-afd4-51…

I was about to pull the trigger until I saw this, now I am having second thoughts as I intended to only use it for trips

      • Oh well, with how often I can use it and offer it to family as well, $50 a month is pretty good compared to $80.

  • Does anyone here have experience using these in Australia while camping etc?

I have Starlink at home, and I used it for a while with the dishy on the ground until I was able to get it installed on the roof. While on the ground it was only semi-usable because of obstructions. It was fast, but it would drop out for 5 seconds or so every 10-15 minutes as satellites went behind trees. I guess it's still better than nothing while on the road, but it's not great if you are doing voice calls or anything that needs stability

    • I have, it worked great but as with anything satellite-based, obstructions will cause the dropouts you experienced. It's not magic unfortunately. :)

How old is your kit? Gen 2 or Gen 3? Even with some obstructions, there shouldn't be drop outs like what you reported.

      • +1

Gen 3. It's fine now that it's on the roof - just a couple of dropouts a day as there is still a little bit of obstruction.

        • Okay, interesting. Gen 3s are usually pretty good even with obstructions. Bigger field of view. Got plenty of installed systems with obstructions and don't drop out at all (even on a roof).

          • +1

@geekcohen: I just took a look at my stats and today at least there was only 1 dropout >2s, although it was "network error" which I am not sure is obstruction related.

            Obstruction map https://ibb.co/d2YL8CB

            • @Jayphen: It will say "Obstructed" if it was a dropout due to some sort of obstruction. Network errors are common.

Your obstructions are not as bad as some I have had like this, which still works perfectly fine with no noticeable issues.

  • Interesting to see JB have pulled the product from their website.

  • Anyone know if these would happily work through a fibreglass poptop roof? Or need to be mounted on the outside..

    • It can work through glass, and people have mounted it on their sunroofs. So don't see why not. But if you are stationary, may as well just put it outside via the kick stand.
