that price is nuts! … these are ancient now!

Most companies dump their old laptops every 3–5 years, selling them in bulk crates to companies like this for pocket change. These then hire refurbishing techs for $25/hr, who “restore” them by mashing the F2/F12/Del buttons like they're trying to win a carnival game. If the laptop miraculously boots, congratulations! It's deemed "fully tested and operational.", checking BIOS, wiping hard drives, and reimaging them. If it boots without smoke, it's “good as new.” Sold as “Refurbished,” they come with polished keys, an aftermarket charger that doubles as a space heater, and a battery that lasts just long enough to disappoint you.

      • I know I'm the head of an IT team… This has been the case the last 25 years lol… we send a lot of these older laptops out of lease or past their depreciation to recyclers without disks (due to compliance reasons disks need to be destroyed and cert provided separately). Most of them have issues in some way.. dead keyboards …touch pads bad screens, really bad batteries ..etc so you'd have to go through a crap tonne of them to find half decent ones…I have 4 of these at home I use for various things… All have some sort of problem. No issues with recycling or reusing old equipment, they are better than some entry level garbage but yeh the price here just doesn't match the age …10th/11th gen is probably whats mostly getting recycled now and I'd say they make a bit more sense at this price .

  • If half price then maybe. So for those reasons, I’m out.
