Pretty cheap for the specs. Not exactly sure about the build quality of this laptop.

Dinosaur? It's 3 years old and comparable to 11th gen Intel.
Seems a good match for the rest of the specs and at this price, although if you went a refurb at this price you'd probably pick up a slightly newer CPU
technological advancements aren't always linear. sometimes they go really fast, sometimes they go slow, sometimes they even regress.
in this case, it was a really fast 3 years. bear in mind this laptop chip isn't even the same architecture as the more famous desktop 5000 series/5800x3d. it's zen 2, basically a rebadge of the 4500u.
I use a 5700U on my main work laptop, so I was just being defensive. It is a really solid CPU, even for gaming, but it is starting to show its age when I use a newer device, so you're not wrong.
@railspider: i get it, i'm still using a 4500U with 8gb….. kept thinking i'll upgrade but the laptop's pretty much only used once every few months during work trips/vacations for e-mails and powerpoints. meh.

Has a 220nit TN panel… Guess that's the trade-off
Also 500:1 contrast and 45% NTSC. An abysmal screen.
Looking for a Laptop for my daughter who is starting Highschool next year and it’s a requirement
Anyone recommend one?
Also curious.
definitely recommend not spending heaps if this is your daughter's first laptop and she doesn't plan to use it for much more than school…
in my opinion, if it suits, a refurbished surface pro with a decent processor and at least 8gb ram can be great if that is the kind of functionality she wants!
if needing something basic and looking for a very budget option, have a look at dell latitudes that have been refurbished for even cheaper :)
we bought my younger sister a surface pro 5 for about $300 maybe 3 years ago and it works great still !!I bought her a used Dell which is great…for a couple of hours if not plugged in. It's been good for her to get used to using a laptop and she cares for things well generally.
I think the specs need to include 6+ hours battery life and a 13"+ screen.
I'll keep looking. Thanks
This one is close to ideal. It's small and light enough to carry all day, it's absolutely powerful enough (and will be for the next five years, no problem) and the battery life ought to be 6+ hours as required. It doesn't have a touch screen which means it'll be able to withstand some rough treatment - you'll want to avoid touch screens until you can see how well it'll be cared for.
The downside is that it doesn't seem to have USB-C charging, which means that it's a little trickier (not impossible) to get an external battery pack if she needs it. I wouldn't
The upside of this one is the price - you wouldn't want to spend more for a high school laptop and spending less than $500 requires a bit more knowledge & experience.
I'd suggest buy this and then in two or three years sell it on Facebook Marketplace for about $300 to buy the 2027 equivalent, and roll over one more time before she does year 12. In the end you'll spend about $2-3 per week for your daughter to have a laptop, which is basically nothing, and she'll be heading to uni with an almost new laptop that's good enough to serve the remainder of her education.
What screen does this have in resolution and hz
Graphics card?
I can’t seem to see any specs on this listing
Can it play Minecraft, Roblox Fortnite just out of curiosity
This one better?

The screen is terrible: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/16005241/redir
@Ryballs: I thanks I’ll skip this one
Most school required touch screen these days
was surprisingly hard to track this down. CPU: AMD Ryzen™ 5 5500U
a bit of a dinosaur, but pretty fair value for this price and with 16GB RAM.
