  • is it the controller that has the Network App and would it just work if I add more APs (with a switch) to it?

    • Nope - separate controller required.

(Souce - got one, and paid what seems a stupid $280 for one when they first came out in Oz 9 nmobnths ago!)

From the installation guide, it looks like this device will work with Unifi’s hosted controller. So you don’t need a separate one.

Yep - easiest way to get going is to use the Unifi app Android Version and connect to the UXG via Bluetooth.

I looked at this and decided to pony (at the time) an extra $50 or so for the UCG Ultra

        hats off to the pioneer.
I have the unifi system and trying to get my friends into this rabbit hole as well.
so looks like the UniFi Express Cloud Gateway WiFi 6 Access Point is the way to go then

    • Can I use it with any brand wireless APs to control unmanaged switches?

    thats a cheap mac mini

coming from an ER-X, was contemplating the UCG-ULTRA but at this price the UXG-LITE is hard to pass on.
1gb internet link with a bunch of unifi APs.

Any reasons why I shouldn't settle for the UXG-LITE?

Still need a separate controller with the Lite, plus from memory it’s a lot slower.

      UCG-Ultra is a good buy for $180ish

      • +1

It's exactly the same speed as the UCG-Ultra at routing (not at VPN) and the separate controller is literally just run the Unifi Network Controller on any PC you already have.

        • Slower CPU, less RAM, single WAN port.

But yeah if you want to run Unifi on a separate PC, it would make sense given the sale price.

At RRP the Lite seems pointless.9

Any reasons why I shouldn't settle for the UXG-LITE?

UXG-Lite is just fine as long as you're ok running the controller on another machine, and you don't need high-speed VPN hosting.

    • hey thanks for all the replies - was hoping to do away with the separate controller, will wait it out for the UCG-ULTRA to have a decent discount, hopefully posted on Woolies marketplace

I was seriously considering this around lunch time today but have ultimately decided not to for 2 main reasons. Vpn speeds are super limited on this if you want an upstream vpn, and also 1gbps link just seems like a bad idea with wifi 7 aps utilising 2.5gbps. I would only consider this as a transition device until i got wifi 7, but I guess for the price that’s a valid use?

I am really struggling here with terminology, is this a router? I have FTTP and want to replace my old modem (belong piece of crap) and am a bit unsure if this will do?
