Is nvr required?
No. But if you want to keep the recordings, then ideally yes. It does have a MicroSD slot, but could be a pain to access all the time.
You would also need either a POE injector or a 12v power supply to power it as well.
There are so many specials on NVR kits, its a good time to buy. Just bought a full house kit for my Dad with 11 (8 in the kid + 3 additional) cameras for about $1500 including 16 Channel NVR.
An alternate option is use the FTP upload feature which uploads all clips to an FTP share, I do this to my NAS as well as using SD cards and Frigate via Home Assistant, all bases covered haha!
I'd also like to add that I have one of these, and it's brilliant. The lens is nice and wide, and it captures the front of my garage and driveway very well. A bit of a fiddle to install/mount, but once done, a nice Camera.
No glare when mounted outdoors?
I was considering the Duo 3V mainly due its IK10 rating, but a lot of folks were complaining about the glare from the streetlights on the Duo 2V.
on the hunt for a 4 camera wireless system. any one with recommendations?
I've used my Eufy system for 2-3 years now, for a wireless system it ticks all the boxes for me. Very affordable and easy to scale.
Reolink Dome Cameras or Reolink Bullet Cameras both include NVR, 2TB HDD with 4 Cameras and some small cabling. Both around the $550 mark.
How would you rate the 520D4-A compared to 833D4-A. I'm looking to buy a 4 cam system along with POE doorbell for my home and really confused with the options Reolink has. Looking for a decent day and night quality, decent FOV. Cheers
It depends on what you are trying to cover and the distance, etc.
I bought a Dome Camera kit and used about four of them; the rest are additional Bullet Cameras, PTZ, and 180-degree cameras. For my Dad, we just bought an entire bullet camera system because the height and distance he wants to cover are more suitable.
The dome is good for Front and Back Doors, and the bullet is good for looking down the entire side of a house, etc.
Here is a bullet camera view and here is a dome camera view\
In terms of night vision, they are brilliant. Here is a night vision of a dome
@geekcohen: Appreciate it mate, and thanks for the sharing the camera views.
@geekcohen: Handy tip: Move the Garage side gate to the right for more coverage.
I've seen a LOT of installs and you can see the sky in the cameras, not sure what they're watching for in the sky, flying cars? 9/11?
520D4-A compared to 833D4-A
520A is an older model, 5 megapixel sensor. Very good daytime performance for the price, but tends towards blurriness with fast night motion. No built-in white lights (UV only) so less flexible. The fixed-focus 4mm lens is a bit more zoomed in than you might expect - not suitable for covering small tight spaces, but good clarity at medium distance. Has a microphone but no speaker.
833a is a much more modern camera, with an 8 megapixel sensor. Excellent daytime performance, and decent night vision but not great. Night vision performance is vastly improved by having built-in white floodlights as well as UV. Has a 3x zoom with auto-focus lens so you can use for wider or narrower angles. Has both a microphone and speaker.
Both cameras have similar AI detection features and are PoE powered. Both have built-in SD card slots but can also connect to an NVR or NAS for remote storage.
There's no question that the 833A is a superior camera in every way, which is reflected in the price.
Would the 1224A be better then the 833A since it's 12mp and currently $122
My recommendation would be to avoid wireless camera systems where possible. Wired systems are inherently superior in several ways.
However, if wired is not an option:
- Eufy is a common choice and have good options
- Reolink's new wireless home hub is very similar to Eufy and probably a little more flexible / expandable in the future.thanks been looking at eufy. just hoping that some awesome deals this few days or so.
As for reolink havent been doing much reading about their wireless system as I can see their wired system has some good reviews.
My Deal have it for $126 with code 'EARLY10' and additional 2000 woolies everyday rewards points if you link rewards card (1st purchase only). Not sure if any of the cashback will work / track.
A few dollars cheaper than Amazon. Depending on your subscriptions, Amazon could be a bit cheaper.
