No need for me to buy overpriced Asus. Thanks Op!

You really went from A to Z

  • +6

    Gen Z, Sus?

  • +5

Good screen, just note no VESA on this model so have to 3D print an adapter or mount.

    • +1

Do any of these style of screen come with vesa?

      • +1

There's a few with a style of backplate/builtin stand that includes 2x75mm spaced threaded holes: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005007476815381.html

Nothing currently comparable for price to this deal.

      • Many do

      • +2

The 13" portable monitors almost never have VESA.

14" ones sometimes have VESA, and most 15" or larger screens do come with VESA mount holes.

I own an embarrassing number of similar monitors but, despite great specs on paper, this is honestly the one I like the least. It suffers two key flaws, which every other product I have owned in this category manages to avoid.

First, it lacks any built-in stand; the supplied plate holder is worse than useless. Second, when I power down my laptop, instead of automatically going to sleep, it just goes into an infinite loop of R-G-B. This means I need to physically yank the cable, which cannot be good for the USB-C ports.

      What’s your favourite?

      • +9

It's a 14" 1920x1200 touchscreen, branded Prechen off Amazon, with the flimsiest plastic kickstand ever. Nothing remotely special about it, but it just fits seamlessly into my home setup and takes minimal space doing so.

        • +1

I have the same one, and while you're right, it does feel cheap and flimsy, it does a great job overall. Does yours have serious light-bleed from the corners too?

I recently picked up a "Bimawen" branded 13.3" OLED one from Aliexpress, which was only around $160. That is my new favourite.

          • @goose25: Sounds awesome. Do you know how many Nits the Bimawen pushes out?

            • +1

@ChatGPT-4: Not off the top of my head, sorry. At a guess I'd say 400 nits peak?

        • Thoughts between these portable monitors for development?:

          Prechen 14" 60Hz Touchscreen, 400 nits, HDR, 1920x1200, 100% sRGB, with Built-in speakers & kickstand for $135.

          MagicRaven 16" 165Hz, Non-touchscreen, 500 nits, HDR, 1920x1200, 100% sRGB, with Built-in speakers & kickstand for $180.

      • +2

Get a uperfect. It might cost more but all works. It has vesa and is of high quality

    • +1

I don't have issues with this one going to sleep but my Mucai 10" doesn't go to sleep and needs to be unplugged.

    • +5

Actually I found a rather strange way to turn off the RGB loop - just long press the return key to power off the monitor when it is plugged in, and once you power it back on (I simply unplugged and replugged the USB C cable), the RGB loop will no longer occur. Sometimes the monitor would reset itself and start displaying options in Chinese, and the RGB loop would return, but another long press will fix the issue.

    • How's the colour and brightness on this? Last one I got had bad colours despite being 99% sRGB - luckily was bought off amazon and returns were easy.

  • +5

remember to grab a tablet holder/stand as well the one it comes with is bad

What is the advert trying to say, without you realising, when it says 14" oversized.

The usual meaning of that when it comes to computer screens is that you are not getting all the image displayed. That the top or bottom or left or right of the image being sent to the screen is not being displayed.

(Excuse my suspicion, but what I've learned from buying on AliExpress is that if its cheap, there's a catch. That you are going to get less than you think you've paid for.)

First time seeing bad translations or wording from Chinese marketing departments? There's always something funny to be found.

      • +3

My favourite has to be Step on the Sense of Shit Slippers. Apparently faeces never dries out in China, so it will always feel soft when you step on a pile of doo doo…?

        • +5

Haha that's an awesome name for the shoes. I love reading the store names too.

I think what it means is that a 14" 3:2 panel is actually bigger than a 14" 16:9 panel in regards to area, and due to the wonky translation, that has come through at oversized.

I have bought two of these and there is no overscan happening.

  • image says 15:10? lol

    • It is 15:10 :)

      • well yea but the description here says 16:10!

        • Yeah, I noticed that

          • @chromium: interesting they make these panels at this odd or less common ratio, and keep it at this price considering it wouldn't be made as much as 16:9 monitors.
            Wonder how they do it

            • @AndrewMTG: Factory manager: OMG you made 247,000 panels in WHAT aspect ratio??! Who's gonna want these…
Factory worker: How about calling them portable monitors and pricing them at $US50? Break even.
Factory manager: Under what brand? Not even Asus would…

            • @AndrewMTG: They're likely excess stock from the panels used in the Huawei Matebook 14 and the Chuwi GemiBook Pro.

    • 2160x1440 on a 14" display is 3:2 and one could look at the identical decimal values (1.5) and figure it's 15:10.

      • … assuming square pixels.

        • If not then it's closer to 16:10.

  • Can't be any worse than my ASUS that went black screen when I clicked on this.

  • Any better Portable Monitor on sale? I am happy to spend up to 150 dollars.

    • +8

This my favourite - 1080P is a great resolution for this size. This one has a decent cover which folds to a stand and doesn't need external power to achieve full brightness, the usb-c feed is sufficient. It comes in a fantastic sturdy box too. I have two of them. $108.98 https://www.amazon.com.au/MagicRaven-Portable-Lightweight-Co…

      • Thanks. Just Purchased. It got 2 year warranty.

      • Thank you. I have also purchased this for peace of mind!

      Following, in the same boat

    • What's wrong with this one? This is one of the favourites

    • Look into UPERFECT ones.

Mom: Can we buy a Asus Monitor?

    • +4

We have Asus at home honey!

      • +1

More like "backhander" … sharab ya khara, we already have Zsus at home

  • +1

Really good deal. Got one already. Comes with shite stand, but two of these ikea phonestands are really great for lightweight travel option

  • I’m working over Christmas but planning to work away from home. Was gonna bring a full monitor.
Would this be suitable? Will I be able to dual screen with my work laptop without a hub etc?

    (Not tech savvy)

Thanks for bringing us these great deals @Clear. Doing my bookkeeping will be much easier with this as a second screen for my laptop.

  • I am experiencing a technical issue where the link opens the Aliexpress app, but I am unable to view the item.

    • Search for 1005006111326351 on Aliexpress.com on a computer browser, the monitor should come up.

  • Does this work on iphones and samsungs? Do u just connect a cable and it works?

  • Thanks OP, bought 1

  • Any idea's on how to mount this on a wall?

  • +1

just fired up one of these that i bought a few months ago only to find it has some washed out splotch areas during dark scenes like stuck pixels almost… i could never get this working over usb c to usb c with my samsung phones even with external power supply so finally got hdmi to hdmi mini to test with my laptop and found this. just a PSA of making sure you have the right cables to check it straight away as i dont know if i can send this back now.
