Ah you beat me to it! Picked up one myself.

AMOLED screen and Sapphire. Pro version has a torch and a better heartrate sensor and titanium surround.

  • +2

thanks. bought this instead of fenix 8 pro which is way overvalued.

  • Great price! I bought the non pro epix about 6 months ago for this price, awesome watch!

  • I got the non-pro Epix Gen 2 last Boxing Day and has been fantastic. Would love to upgrade but definitely cannot justify lol.

  • +1

Currently have this got it for $600 after trs and giftcards i think. amazing driver for fitness

  • i just lost my fenix 6s was looking at 47mm and saw 8 was out then saw price so waiting for deal.
how does this compare to 7 pro which i was now looking at waiting for BF for

    • +2

Better screen but means battery doesn't last quite as long. Will still last a week with the screen always on though.

      • a week is fine. i was used to a good 21+ days with 6s. i just dont want to be charging every day like you need to do with things like apple watch. thats nuts

  • Pretty awesome price. Bought one, thanks for the post.

  • +1

Any guesses when Fenix 8 goes on sale?

    • +4

They are likely 30% off after 8 months and 50% off after a year.

    • Not any time soon, it only came out a month or so ago.

  • Boom, I've been waiting for this one.

  • finally!….got the 51mm

  • Thinking of this or the Fenix 7 pro, any recommendations on which is better?

    • +2

Fenix 7 doesn't have AMOLED display.

    • +1

Epix for me given the much better screen. Battery takes a hit but still get a week set to always on

    • +4

I got a F7 Pro SS for $890 recently and no regrets at all. Huge upgrade over the 745 I had before.

Not a fan of the bright-screen-on-my-wrist look. Especially it randomly glowing during work meetings, etc. Hence wanted MIP over LED.

Personally I look at my watch for 3 reasons:

      • Telling the time or looking at some stat (No benefit to it being AMOLED- the bright screen would make it harder to do this subtly)

      • During workouts (always outside where MIP shines anyway)

      • Pre or post workout (little benefit in AMOLED here but admittedly only use case where it could be nice.).

Also maps are WAY slower on AMOLED due to higher pixel density. When I am out and trying to use them, speed matters.

I see the F7 as a fitness watch and the E3 as a smart watch.

      • totally agree. My next is going to be MIP too (fenix 6 pro going strong still).

      • Excellent review. MIP fan here too.

    • I'm looking at an X model and would go the 7x pro over the Epix pro 51 as I prefer the MIP screen. Unfortunately it's $150 more for the 7x at the moment so I'd take the Epix on that alone.

  • Hmm this is a good deal. Got a 265 at the moment and love it but would like the better materials and improved heart rate sensor plus flashlight. However the 47mm seems to be quite a bit chunkier than my FR265.

    • I feel you, small wrists here too. I wish there was the sale for the 42mm version

      • Just went past a rebel store after lunch break and tried the Epix Gen 2 47mm model they had there. It’s sadly too big with the edges of the frame going wider than my wrist and hence looks a bit silly. Plus was wearing a shirt and now way would that blob fit in with the buttons closed.

I also tried the Fenix 8 43mm and that was the sweet spot. Felt and looked great on the wrist. And as a side note also way better compared to a Fenix 7s pro as that one just looks like the proportions (size to height) is out of wack…

Anyway I might be obsessed with the looks of those things while nobody else cares but for me it’s the Fenix 8 43mm so will wait for a better price on those.

    • My wrists are just over 17cm. Was worried about chunkiness but took about an hour to get used to it and would hate smaller now. 42mm takes a big battery hit

      • +1

Might go to rebel this week and have a try on one of those. Although, when I did buy the FR265, I did try a Fenix 7 pro 47mm and that was a notable difference. Both in thickness and general size it felt not that good. The 265 is the sweet spot for my wrist and I love how thin it is making it possible to still have a sleeve go over it comfortably. Might have to go for a Fenix 8 43 as that one felt really nice on the wrist aswell.

  • Anyone got some tips on where to buy from for cashback or frequent flyer points. Seems like everywhere has the same price

    • rebel. 2% cash back and $50 worth of rebel point

      • +3

you can stack with the 15 % off TCN gift card with Coles this week.

        • sorry could you explain?

        • I want to do this. Is it true you can only use up to 3 gift cards per transaction at rebel? Has anyone tried recently?

          • +1

@MohTheory: yes , just checked with Rebel. Only a maximum of 3 gift cards in one transaction.
But logging on to TCN website , it seems you can exchange multiple TCN Active cards for a store of your choice, in this case Rebel .

But unsure of the process given TCN card max is $100 -
            Does it mean:

$100 x 10 cards can be exchanged for 3 Rebel cards of $1000 total denomination on TCN website which can then be used at Rebel ?
            or Not.

            Hoping someone here can explain.

          • +1

@MohTheory: I did this today. Can confirm now.
Purchase it in store at Rebel, as online Rebel has 3 gift card restriction.
I paid using 10 x $100 TCN Active cards and also got $50 in points from Rebel. , bringing the price down to $800 for the 51mm $1000 variant.
Also be mindful Coles has 5 cards per customer restriction on the TCN cards.
Go in twice at different counters or take a mate with you.

        • I think cashback is invalid when paid with giftcards

          • @kin1106: it is valid. Got $50 in points cash back at Rebel.

            • +1

@Jabberwocky: That's great. I thought we are talking about cashrewards, shopback type of cash back.

              • @kin1106: Nah kin11006. Unfortunately wont be able to use online GC over 3 cards, and max is $100 per card.
Only in-store can you use the GC to pay, hence pretty much leaves with Rebel 5% cash back .

                • @Jabberwocky: In case it helps anyone, can get 8% off rebel gift cards through Bupa rewards, up to $500.

      • Yeah was just looking at rebel. I guess you sign up for rebel points

12 available here at $829 with eBay plus: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/125967894868

      • Thanks, no eBay plus for me but there was a discount code for $849.

      • Sold out there now

  • should we wait for more black sales? i'm running a 6X pro really love to try the AMOLED screen.

  • Did Garmin do the ECG update for the Aussie model?

  • Why don't they ever discount the smaller face models?

    • jumping on this too - any way to get the discount for the smaller models? I'm jump on it immediately if available in 42mm.

    • Fenix 7s is discounted on Amazon, I put a link in a reply, but my comment was unpublished, not sure why, just trying to be helpful.

      • Can you private message me the link?

  • Which category of cashback does this fall under ?

  • +7

Thanks OP for a free $573 😁. I paid 1571 in April (51mm), thought that was great. But this is even better, free price protection from 28 degrees.

  • +7

Managed to get Rebel to price match Dick Smith in store at $839. Combined with some gift cards, cost me $755. And then the $42 of Rebel points that'll hit my account tomorrow.

    • How did you get them match/beat Kogan's price? it's $869 and only for the Kogan First members.

      • Kogans price has gone up since earlier. Lucky with person instore I guess as they won't usually match a member price. $800 here from Kogan eBay though if you're quick: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/167003061071

        • For me still cheaper to buy from Rebel using 7% discount GC I can get through my work since I'd like to buy a Vivofit jr for my daughter using the credit from this purchase. All things considered it'll cost me $785.

      • +1

Was $839 earlier. And they declined me online but just went to my local store and asked and was no questions asked.

  • I got the non-pro Epix 2 for $799 in Feb and I love it. Hadn't won a watch for a decade but I've loved pulling my phone out less and the activity tracking has encouraged a less sedentary lifestyle.

  • Is it worth waiting for a sale on Fenix 8 considering this line of product (Epix) has been discontinued?
The only notable difference is diving sensor and microphone and speaker on Fenix 8.

    • +2

Guess depends on how soon you want one. As the Fenix 8 only came out in August 24 I think there won’t be that much of a sale coming up soon. I doubt they do a big Black Friday deal as an example on those ones but rather keep going through their old stock first until next year.

      • I’m a bit worried about software support for Epix since it’s been discontinued.
Wondering if it’s a concern at all?

        • I doubt it. Garmin are pretty good with updates.

  • I recently moved to Garmin after using Samsung Galaxy Watches for years. I picked up the Fenix 7X Sapphire Solar and wow. It's been incredible. Battery life is solid and it does everything you need and more.

  • Does anyone know how many TCN cards you can use in 1 transaction at Kogan?

    Thanks

  • shit. i just bought a fenix 8.

I love it, but I'd have been happy with this. $899 is incredible.

  • +1

Any ideas about the software support for the Epix line?

    • I asked the same question above. Wondering if it’s even important?

      • +1

Dunno how legit this post "So, to sum up, I would expect that you would see firmware updates for the Epix (Gen 2) until early 2027 and for the Epix Pro until late 2028."

        https://forums.garmin.com/outdoor-recreation/outdoor-recreat….

        • Thanks. That gives me more confidence. 4-5 years of support is what I’d expect for a watch in this price range.

4 available at $800 with eBay plus on eBay Kogan: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/167003061071?

  • This might be of interest to someone, Garmin Quatix, supposedly same internals as the Epix, just a slightly different look (specifically for sailing and watersports).

    $600 on Amazon.

    To summarise:

People say its the same as the Epix, in a different skin, but it looks like this is MIP, not AMOLED (so more like a fenix).
Has all the functions that an Epix (non pro) has. Not multi band GPS (same as vanilla Epix).
Apparently the yachting features can be removed from the options, so you can set up like an Epix.
The bezel looks smaller, and better to me. But looks like it has some yachting style red and blue colouring around the border, that put me off.
Strap is ugly to me, but easily changed.
From looking online it looks like it has been getting software updates.

  • Been wanting this for ages. Crazy good price.

Still plenty in stock. I could buy 30 if I wanted to. I got mine from JBs as I had some gift cards.

  • Ordered last night for $899 at JB, price matched this morning with Kogan for $839, after rejection from JB online ask for a deal chat and JB phone call and after a bit of reluctance from in store staff, the manager approved it. Had $100 GC which was put to good use.

Love it but is wider and flatter than 6pro as the 6pro case doesn’t fit. Will use FR945 and 6pro outdoor activities in sun and Epix pro for others.

  • +1

    Thanks OP!
    Finally pulled the trigger!
Final price ~$782 using gift cards, $5 discount for click and collect and $45 worth of rewards points from rebel!

    • Can you use 9 gift cards online?

      • +1

I had rebel gift cards (just 2 x $500). So, can’t answer the question.

        • Thanks for reply. Are the rebel giftcards discounted at the moment?

          • +1

@MaccDogg: No idea, I have access to discounted gift cards through my company (the paltrorm is maxxia).

  • Grabbed one at Rebel for $898. They refused to price match with the first member. The price went down to $765 with the TCN gift card (plus a $44.90 Active Rewards bonus).

  • Grabbed 51mm for $850 using TCN Active card (in-store only. Online 3 Gift Card restriction)
    Plus 5% ~ $50 back in Rebel points .
Not bad for $800 for the 51mm Sapphire Epix 2 Pro

    • So you can use more than 3 TCN gift cards in store, just not online?

  • I didn’t know Amazon gift cards are also on sale for 10% off. For about $40 more, I would have bought it from Amazon for an easy return or replacement without any questions.

  • Does anyone have the burn in screen issue? When I got home, I turned it on and immediately noticed the screen issue. I tried resetting it, but the issue still remains. I went back to Rebel, and they refused to exchange it; they said I have to contact Garmin first.WTF I just bought it a few hours ago. I will never buy anything from them again.

    https://imgur.com/a/lQNjjDp

    • Surely they've got to exchange it if its not right. Mention the ACCC and they'll quiver in their boots.

  • Was it a store display unit?. Can you highlight in pic where the burn in is?….my eyes be getting old…you dont have to do sh*t with garmin 1st..they(rebel) gotta sort it for you..straight up replacement or refund…let them know about breaching acl for trying to palm off their responsibility

    • +1

Here are some more photos: https://imgur.com/a/1Xrjqvd

You can see that the white color appears mixed with blue, and the images are not sharp or clear. I previously owned a Garmin Epix 2, so I noticed the screen issue immediately after turning it on.

I’m not overly concerned about an exchange or refund, but the way they handled the problem is just crazy. The staff admitted they could see the strange colors but said it might be a ‘new style,’ which is ridiculous. They don’t seem to know anything about technology and should probably stick to selling clothing.

They didn’t even have a display unit to compare it with and refused to turn on a new one, claiming they couldn’t sell it afterward. They asked me to leave the watch with them while they contacted Garmin. Forget that, I took it home, contacted Garmin myself and I don't want to wait for weeks.

      • Thanks…yeah that is pretty bad 2nd pic with the light bar is so obvious…will check my one also

      • Interested if the box was sealed etc. - I am thinking to purchase via Rebel but more so if this appeared to be a sealed/non-display unit and has this issue right out of the box I may skip altogether.

        • +1

i haven't seen a security seal on my box 51mm (bought HN), for a high value item - the actual unboxing is actual shyte…i think only the cherry(brown) belt version comes in a somewhat decent box.. my unit is fine…no burn in fwiw

        • +1

I went to Rebel a few days before the sale and wanted to test exactly this model and I saw the guy removing the seal.
Surprisingly there was no seal on the one I bought yesterday and it appears that it is not intended to be sealed as there are no sign of any seal (wether broken or not).
I tested Fenix 8 too; so I may be mistaken about the seal he removed…

          • +1

@KB57: I think I'll go in store if I do buy and then do vouchers once I see it's not pulled from display. I worry how the iforumos got one clearly already used

            • +1

@Imjustsayin: I don’t think it’s used, but who knows? It could be refurbished, but I think it’s more likely a QC fail.

Update: Garmin confirmed it’s an issue and contacted Rebel to arrange a refund/replacement. So I went to the store today and got a refund (mainly because I didn’t like the customer service there). Unfortunately, the refund was issued as Rebel gift cards and couldn’t be reverted to TCN. On the bright side, it’s only two gift cards (500 + 398). Now I can reorder via click and collect and take advantage of the 10% cashback.

  • +2

I would 100% buy this if I hadn't purchased a 955 a few months back. I was actually trying to offload my 955 to get this instead, but I realised how consumerist that is and I'm just going to continue using the 955 until I can kill it or the battery dissappoints.

No disrespect to the 955, it has performed superbly over the last 5-6 months. I think I would like the epix more simply because I wear my garmin everywhere. The epix/fenix line just looks more professional. Still wear my 955 to work everyday lol.

If you're on the fence about this watch, buy it. Coming from an apple watch series 8, the battery lfie on garmin is insane. Currently on day 10 on my 955 after recording 6-7 gps activities (4-5 hours) since the last charge at the highest accuracy mode.

Really wish I could somehow justify getting this, oh well. Maybe I'll pick up the fenix 8 a few years down the line on sale.

Grabbed 9 x $100 TCN Choice Giftcards at Coles in two separate transactions (5 cards in the morning, and then 4 cards later in the day - all at the same store).
Went to Rebel, bought watch and paid with the 9 TCN cards. Took a while to swipe and key in PIN for the 9 cards but ultimately successful.
$900 gift cards for $765 at Coles, and then $44.95 in Rebel rewards to also be credited.
Have upgraded from a Fenix 5 Plus and enjoying both the touch screen and AMOLED clarity on the Epix Pro.

    • Are the gift gard active straight after you buy them? Or does it take registration and time?
