Logitech MX Ergo S Trackball Mouse (Graphite) $134 (RRP $169) + Delivery ($0 to Metro/ OnePass/ C&C/ in-Store) @ Officeworks

110

Long story short, need to replace old MX Ergo, plastic is peeling off and no usb c charging, common problem for MX Ergo user.

Saw this new model in Japan, reluctant to buy there without warranty and Aus price was just a rip off. Randon search today saw it on sale at officeworks for $134, I know it's not going to get any cheaper and company is paying for it so pull the trigger.

A quick take on the price and usability, for those who are using these type of device will know, this is the best you can get alongside with Kensington, $134 for a stable and reliable bluetooth trackball is really the lowest you can go, you can get a bit more discount with gift card but that's about it.

This is part of Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals for 2024

  • can't find anywhere selling the Ergo S plus model :(

    • Is that the same but just with an additional separate wedge? It looks like something easily 3D printed or made from a small bit of wood.

I'm sure this version is superior in many aspects, but Logitech Ergo M575 Wireless Trackball Mouse (Black) https://amzn.asia/d/5RnKqQq if anyone wants a more affordable option.

That trackball ended my chronic wrist pain. Highly recommend if you have any similar issues.

You become accustomed to the change from a traditional mouse within an hour or two of use in my experience.

I use both the MX Ergo and M575.
The M575 is vastly superior. Longer battery life and AA instead of USB, much lighter, and plastic instead of icky rubber that looks like STD after a couple of years. Can also fit a little finger into the hole to pop out the M575 ball for a quick clean, have to find a pen to clean the Ergo.
I have had one Ergo and about 4 or 5 M570/575 over the years.
Gaming is not a problem, can 360 no-scope with a fresh ball no worries.

        Its a user thing I guess….

First mine are work paid for so as long as it not excessive then it doesnt hurt my wallet. Having said that I try the ones that are non titable inluding 575 and I absolutely hate that angle and makes a big difference if you are using it 8 hours a day. I also hate battery and receivers. The Ergo MX (and this one) having bluetooth is so convenient and you just need a charge cable for you comupter or dock to keep the device running.

        • You mentioned Kensington as a decent alternative. Do you have any preference? I've got the Kensington Expert and whilst it was great for a while, the scroll wheel packed in just after the warranty period. It doesn't seem to be any of the common causes. It's really put me off Kensington.

@banana365: Kensington has a total diff design and user either love it or hate it, user who are use to the ring design will just buy it for that feature alone.

The latest Profit Ergo is arguable a better device than MX ergo, I didn't like it cos it does tit atvthebangle that Ergo Mx does.

      • Same for me, M575 is my preferred one.

    • Yep agree The M575 no more wrist pain but after year i got this pain at the end of my thumb (the palm side). So changed to using logitech lift and fine till now.
Im on the pc for 9-10 hrs every day

Two of the original, still going strong, but finally, USB-C!

    • +2

The peeling issue is so common, it will happen less than two years. Didnt happen to yours?

The USB-C is the biggest draw back, then Logitech wants $50 for a USB C port, really they can take it up their…. $10 - 20 extra like now I will pay.

      • The oldest bought 2018 for $108 has signs of peeling starting, and the LMB is a little dodgy, but quite usable. The other bought 2022 for $118 is still good. So, yeah, they're getting $$$, but if i needed another now i would buy this, and USB-C would be more convenient.

I have a number of the first gen and can confirm that the soft plastic layer can all be removed - just need to apply brute force

    • How does it feel after the disgusting coating is removed? Are there hard edges that you can feel all the time?

      • The surface underneath the coating is a shiny layer of plastic. No hard edges

        • +1

Just ripped that manky layer off, thanks!
I can feel the bottom plastic edge at the bottom of my palm but it's not that uncomfortable.

Thanks and I just experimented on that, feels ok. The old one at home will just be use as a pointer on google tv so no big deal.
