  • Is this good machine or there are better comparable options?

Ozbargainers probably won't like this response, but to make it worth your while when buying an espresso machine you should probably be looking at something like the breville bambino / gaggia classic / rancilio silvia / breville barista express / maybe the delonghi dedica at a minimum. For the Gaggia + Rancilio in particular, i'd only be looking to buy these second hand. Outside of the barista express you will also need to account for a grinder.

Anything cheaper than those is likely not going to give you a good cup and will yield more frustration than anything, so if your budget is less you'd be better off buying a hand grinder and one of; aeropress, v60/other pour over, french press, or moka pot for your actual brewing.

Never thought Ned Stark would brew his own coffee :D
        Good piece of advise though!

Looks like it's this with a brand name slapped on it.

Most of the places selling it are "marketplace" sellers. So presumably it's just a cheap import with questionable warranty and quality and a huge markup on it.

At this price point, I'd hold out for a refurb sale on ebay and try get a barista express for $400.

    • This.

Just got a refurbished Breville Express Impress for $580 (Retails for $799 atm) from Breville official ebay store.

It was $650 with 10% off promo + cashback to get it to $580

Obviously quote a bit more than this machine, but good value nonetheless

I bought the same thing 12 months ago. Hasn't skipped a beat so far.

Absolutely love the grind/tamp of the impress model, it's ridiculously easy and makes great coffee. Not a huge fan of the steam wand but I've gotten used to it (the warmup time and splurt of water is annoying, I just the wand pointing straight down and turned on while I grab some milk. It's at least easy to clean).

        • Love to hear that!

I was 50/50 on it being worth it vs the standard Express model.

We're upgrading from a nespresso machine, so glad to hear we've made the right choice 👍

Won't get to use it until it's opened in Xmas though 😅

      • Currently $595 at Myer or $588 at JB HIFI

That's the standard express, the express impress has a built in tamping mechanism that remembers how much to grind each time (rather than needing to dial it in and tamp it yourself).

It's pretty amazing to use in practice, but it costs a couple of hundred more.
