Issues reported with this model including the mic.

      Really??
I’ve been using this for 5 months now and have no issues.

      • Have you had any issues? I'm also considering getting this

      • +1

Whats the delay like when someone rings the bell? Has the delivery guy already walked away by the time it comes up on your phone?

        • Not conclusive, but the delay on the cameras is enough that I wouldn't trust it to connect me in time, but my wall situation isn't ideal and they take a sec to connect. I'd hope the doorbell was a bit quicker but WiFi is WiFi!

        • -1

I'd expect 1-2 second lag from start of each stream.

Just cable it properly. It sucks to do but it's permanent and poe. you're running a cable for power anyways. or gtfo. gtfo+ if you use batteries.

  • so will this work with the NVR from this deal?

    • -1

Yeah if you have a Reolink NVR it works

      • Are you saying it requires a proprietary NVR?

        • +1

It doesn't require an NVR. It can be used with just an SD card.

It can also be used with Reolink's standard NVR (mechanical HDD unit) or their Home Hub (flash storage + integrated chime) or Reolink's cloud storage (subscription required).

It also supports RSTP and ONVIF so it should work with almost any modern NVR, including Synology.

    • It works, but results in battery drain if NVR is connected with Home Assistant - dead within 24-48 hours.

Home Hub doesn't have this problem, hopefully the NVR firmware will be upgraded in future to bring it up to speed.

    • like the wi-fi cameras it will work without the NVR, just need the Reolink app.

    Theres no 24/7 recording :(

    • +6

      It's a battery doorbell…

      • Has connections for hard-wired supply.

        • It's still a (PIR activated) battery cam that's being charged by hard-wired supply

    • +1

      Theres no 24/7 recording

You can do 24/7 recording if you provide external power. You can use existing doorbell wiring, a DC supply or a solar panel.

And of course you need lots of storage - connecting to an NVR or the Home Hub is probably best.

    • +2

Not sure why people are downvoting, but just letting people know this model cannot do 24/7 continuous recording even when hard-wired compared to Aqara G4 or Tapo D235 which are also battery video doorbell.

      • +1

but people literally said above that it can.

        • Don't think so https://reolink.com/au/product/reolink-doorbell-battery/#com…

          https://www.reddit.com/r/reolinkcam/comments/1fjr248/comment…

If you're using an existing chime to power the doorbell, its current is very low. Additionally, the battery doorbell is designed to trickle charge, so it won't always stay fully charged.

For example, if your battery doorbell is fully charged and connected to a power source, you'll notice that the battery still gradually drains. Once it drops below 80%, it will slowly start charging again to maintain a healthy level.

However, since the current is low and it's trickle charging, the doorbell may still run out of power if used 24/7, as the charging speed is slower than the rate of power consumption—similar to how a solar panel works.

          https://www.reddit.com/r/reolinkcam/comments/1fkljco/battery…

-NO CONTINUOUS RECORDING: It would have been nice to have continuous recording capabilities when its powered by doorbell wiring, but I’m assuming the trickle charging I just mentioned wouldn’t be enough to keep it charged while continuous recording. This isn’t a big deal for me since I have two POE cams watching the front of my house that are recording 24/7, but it will probably matter to some of you.

  • +1

If you get the chime you need to contact reolink support to get the firmware upgrade to version 4185_24103029, otherwise it won't pair with the chime more than once.

It took me about 4-5 days of mucking around with support to get it to upgrade (these newer models are able to be sd-card firmware upgraded).

Apparently the chime only works when the doorbell is in standalone mode, not when connected to a Home Hub. I've got another Home Hub coming tomorrow so going to test if this is the case.

Also, connecting it to a Reolink NVR12W results in battery drain (dead overnight) when NVR is connected to Home Assistant. Connecting it via a Home Hub to Home Assistant does not have this battery drain.

I've also found wifi is inferior to the Google nest doorbell battery.

  • I saw a review that says there’s 7-10 second delay between being within range of the doorbell and the motion sensor alerting to motion sensed.
Can anyone else verify if that’s true?
Considering the narrow entry up to my door, someone could be back down the stairs and in their car before I get an alert. I have similar issue with the Aqara g4, which is one of the reasons I’m considering replacing it. That and that it can’t integrate fully in home assistant. Ie, no recording.

    • +2

Here's a review that talks about time delays etc. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxpzriDcMUY

Battery powered doorbells are always going to have limitations around response time - they simply don't have the power budget to stay awake and fully connected at all times. If response time is a high priority, hard-wiring to external power is the only way to go.

      • Thanks for the link. Watching it now.
Unfortunately I don't have any hardwired doorbell at the moment OR a plug anywhere near the front door, so I guess if I decide to get another doorbell I'll need to either hire an electrician to install one or the other or just deal with the delay of a battery powered one.

  • Can you connect two doorbells to one chime? I have a wired doorbell and chime and want to add this wireless model.

  • I have some bushes in front of the door, will the wind ruffling the foliage trigger the camera?
    TIA

    • +1

No, since this is PIR triggered since a battery cam

  • Is this better than the google doorbell? I am running at moment and i get the video of the person on the google home. Its slow though and takes a few seconds. Is this going to be an upgrade or different in someway?

    • I've got both, google doorbell battery is better. This one has no subscription.

    • Here's a review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxpzriDcMUY

He has the Nest, and says he prefers the Reolink, on the basis of fully local storage and no subscription.

  • I assumed, it you don't have a chime then you wouldn't know if someone ring your bell unless you get notification on your phone?

    • Correct.

If you have a home hub you can use that speaker to ring instead of the chime.

Chime uses 433mhz, home hub uses wifi

    • +1

The chime is the best so you get notification instantly when they are there…
If you wait for the notification then open app, and wait for app to load the video, they will be long gone.

  • So what's the difference between this and https://reolink.com/au/product/reolink-video-doorbell-wifi/? I was of the opinion that the Wi-Fi doorbell was wireless too? But it is not? This battery one is even more expensive and does not come with a chime.

    • They both use WiFi for internet connectivity - the difference is in power delivery. This one can be hard-wired but it's optional as it has a battery. The other one MUST be hard-wired.

Also, the non-battery models come with a chime; the battery one does not.

    • Black POE/WiFi:
      - 4:3 Aspect Ratio
      - 5MP (2560 x 1920)
      - Person/vehicle detection
      - Continuous recording

      White POE/WiFi
      - 3:4 Aspect Ratio
      - 5MP (1920 x 2560)
      - Package/person/vehicle detection
      - Continuous recording

      Black/White Battery WiFi:
      - 1:1 Aspect Ratio
      - 4MP (2048 x 2048)
      - Person/package/vehicle detection
      - No continuous recording

      • This is a good comparison summary.
I'm hoping Reolink will release the PoE/WiFi version with 1:1 aspect ratio in the future. Not sure if I should just get the battery version now. Any drawback if I can connect power to it?

  • any chance the white version will come out at the same price?

I spent a day drilling holes in a brick wall and pulling a network cable to install a POE-based doorbell version. It was a challenging task, but the effort was worth it. Coming from a Ring doorbell that required constant battery charging, I am thrilled with this new setup. If you own your own house, I highly recommend opting for a POE-based solution. It offers stability, eliminates the need for WiFi connectivity, and the best part—you don’t have to worry about charging it.

    • Not disagreeing with any of what you said, but my Ring doorbell would last anywhere from 3-6 months. I got rid of it because of subscription costs.

  • -1
    • +1

That is not the battery version

    • Disappointing but unsurprisingly, they're advertising it as a singles day (11.11) sale but it's the same price it already was recently ($115).

  • -1

Buyer beware, it says "Works with Alexa" but I couldn't make it connect using Reolink Skill in Alexa app. It just doesn't connect. It was the wired version but integration with Alexa, or rather lack thereof, is likely to be the same. Sadly, I had to return mine and put Ring Video Doorbell instead. At least, it connects to Alexa and shows who is out there on Amazon Echo Hubs.

    • There are multiple videos of them working with Alexa just fine. Not sure why yours had problems.

      • Maybe bad luck who knows. The doorbell was on the same home network as every other device but Alexa couldn't find it after enabling the skill. Also tried multiple troubleshooting steps easily found on reddit etc like disabling the camera in Reolink app, etc. Nope. Wasted two days and had to return.

  • I was so excited to buy this and replace my ring camera but the audio issues and night time video quality have scared me away. Hopefully they release a new version with some fixes soon…
