          Okay so

Teslas are far from full self driving with its cameras

Tesla is closer than anyone else to achieving full self-driving with its camera based system. Change can be challenging, but it’s a natural part of technological progress. Remember how the iPhone was initially mocked and doubted or did you forget the backlash?

Hardware 3 is not capable of unsupervised FSD

Q3 earnings call Elon Musk has stated if it is not enough HW3 owners will receive a free upgrade

Overpriced garbage with no spare parts

There are spare parts available. The pricing reflects the early adopter phase and the potential use cases of the technology.

I do not own Tesla vehicles but I do own Tesla shares. I also own a BYD. While your concerns are valid, they don’t fully reflect Tesla’s current state. Best of luck navigating this evolving landscape.

          • @Lit Homie: camera based system
Problems with cameras= mist, fog, rain, shadows, sun glare, smoke, dirt on camera(mud bidrsh!t) and many more problems

Musk also said "The cost and difficulty of retrofitting hardware 3 with Hardware 4 is quite significant. So, it would not be, I think, economically feasible to do so."
Yeah another musk false truth which one do you believe

Level 5 self driving on the road wont happen any time soon with just a camera.

            • @Loot N Plunder: Except that even if you have a lidar, you still have to solve for vision. And what if vision and lidar are at conflict? Who to believe and what happens to the latency?

Although I am pretty sure they cannot achieve FSD on Hardware 3. The camera resolution is too low and the processing may not be enough either.

              • @dealsucker: The camera resolution is too low

It needs to see through fog, fine mist when behind a truck in the rain, sun glare, shadows, dusty dirt roads, foliage/autumn leaves, rain/snow/mud on the camera, and for these reasons a camera alone wont cut it for full level 5 self driving
I live in the bush on a dirt road i aint going to clean the cameras every time i need to go somewhere i barely wash my cars for that reason alone

        • Is that English? Are you a Winnie Poh fanboy? Sounds like it. Sorry your BYD can’t even keep itself centred in a lane so try again later. My new Tesla is pretty much driving itself all day coming and going to work throughout the cbd etc. so what some crazy is saying on ozbargain is not going to change reality.

          • @mustang87401: Don't see anybody here saying byd lane assistance is better but anyway back to my point @Loot N Plunder camera isn't there yet but this is an easier solution than the machine learning and the software improvements required for FSD which is astonishingly closer than it was a year ago. Once this is completed then we can move towards ways to keep the camera clean eg hydrophobic coating, self cleaning mechanisms (there are cars that already has this can't remember which maybe RR or one of the german cars)

Haha Mitsubishi 7 seater outlander is a decent car but it’s on another level to a Tesla.

Yep, it is on another level. I can take it anywhere to be service and not be tied to Elons apron strings.

Driveway price online is under 40k and the model 3 I bought is 60k so obviously the price tells you it’s in another league.

Yep, correct. I didn't pay $20,000 for computer controlled BS.

It’s not an EV, it has none of the self driving feature that Tesla has including FSD capabilities.

Again, correct and thank heavens it isn't a Tesla. I'm capable of driving a vehicle by myself, so I have no need for self driving feature or FSD

While you might like your car it’s not the same as a Tesla.

You have no idea how happy I am it isn't like a Tesla.

    • Great your loving your Mitsubishi. My car is driving me to and from work 95% of the time without intervention. I prefer that over any other car I’ve ever driven including RAV4 etc. the interior etc is on another level as well. Japanese cars usually are reliable but feel cheap inside…

      • Will concede most Jap cars are cheap inside, mostly the plastics.

I had a 2007 diesel SWB Pajero for 17 years. Brilliant vehicle, cheap plastics excluded. Sold it with 360,000Kl on it.

Let's be real. People buy Tesla's because they want portray an air of higher class. Well done to Tesla for creating that imagery/brand. Its the modern day Mercedes C Class (not the AMG, just the 250)

Now that brand/image is quickly eroding, owners (middle class corporates desperately trying to "look" upper middle class), are in defense mode, trying to maintain any ounce of dignity left, after clearly being exposed as phonies and having made a very poor financial decision

    Much enjoyment!

    • -1

Yeah a very poor financial decision indeed - i have spent a grand total of $150 to drive it 14k kms in the last one year, havent spent a single penny on service because there is no service schedule, beaten dinosaur juice burning bogans at the traffic lights without even trying but yeah go on tell us without ever owning one yourself.

      • ooOoOOoooo $150!!! How much did you pay for the car and how much is it worth now? (if you can even sell it?)

        • And how much for a replacement battery?
And isn't the insurance more expensive?
          Whats the resale value?
How long does it take to fill the tank?

          • @Loot N Plunder: How much for a replacement engine and gearbox, A/C compressor, brakes, engine oil, filters of all kinds, oil leaks, yearly service?

The insurance is actually slightly cheaper than my other car - safe driver with no claims in last 5 years./

Has depreciated much less than an equivalent performance car

I plug it in when it is parked and its always full. On a supercharger it takes no longer than a butt break along the way.

        • Much cheaper than Mercedes GLC63 AMG, less depreciation, less maintenance, faster, costs nothing to run and maintain and better technology inside and out, safer as well.

          • @dealsucker: Less depreciation than a car that costs 2-3x as much? Not really an achievement

EV depreciation is on another level - any savings for fuel/services are lost anyway

        • You still wont be able to buy it so leave it.

      • beaten dinosaur juice burning bogans at the traffic lights without even trying

        And that's a plus?

        • Yes ofcourse. Were you in one of them?

          • @dealsucker:

Yes ofcourse. Were you in one of them?

Nah. I'm not a poser or rev head.

You want to get ahead of me go for it. I don't give a *^#!~<

considering the speed limit is between 50/60kmh in metro Whats the point again of that acceleration?

          • @Loot N Plunder: What is the point of any fast car then?

            • +1

              @dealsucker: A speeding ticket

There is a time and a place for it the streets are neither

              • -2

@Loot N Plunder: Speeding ticket for reaching the speed limit faster than a dinosaur juice powered fart mobile? No thats not how it work numpty.

                • +1

@dealsucker: dinosaur juice powered fart mobile

At least you are making me laugh

                  • -3

@Loot N Plunder: Come back and read your post once again after few days. You will laugh even more. By the way are you two in a room yet?

              • @Loot N Plunder:

There is a time and a place for it the streets are neither

Dealsucker has shown his true colours.

I couldn't afford a Lambo so got a Tesla for its 0 to 100 in under 4 seconds

    • What do you drive?

  • +1

Don’t forget people, every Tesla you buy helps Musk and Trump MAGA

Helping the US means helping Australia defend against external threats

    • +1

      can't tell if /s

      • Considering some mentally ill types think buying a Tesla is supporting fascism it’s probably real…

        • +4

what a time to be alive when every thing you buy triggers a political philosophical and existential debate

          • +3

@May4th: I like the part where it keeps changing each season, even if it’s hard to keep up with the plot at times. In the first season rich people buy teslas, in the next season people buying teslas are labeled lefties, in the current season people buying teslas are labeled right wing.

            • +2

@mapax: hahaha spot on, can't wait for season IV

              • +1

                @May4th: Season IV spoiler.
Musk overthrows Trump and starts the US down the path of comMuskism. It’s basically what the right thinks communism will be but they now like it because Musk. Meanwhile, the left hate it because they can only spend their UBI on vegetables and didn’t expect communism to be so hard, they now see Trump as the savior who can save them from comMuskism…

                • @mapax: ISEETellUSMore . I must follow insert meaning here.

        • Same types saying the same for chinese cars :)

    • Here's to a righter, brighter future!

  • +1

Tesla is up 38% YoY worldwide.

Were pretty irrelevant to them, barely worth the effort of shipping to.

We're a country of big utes and Chinese cheapies.

  • +2

Tested one and thought it was an idiotic car, with a ridiculous iPad in the center that makes you take your eyes off the road.It should at least come with HUD.

    Idiotic.

I want to buy two Telsa Optimus robots and force them to go on a date together at the drive-in cinema in my BYD.

    • +1

That's going to take a while as the most of the robots they showed at the event still had someone controlling them. When they did anything it was like a geriatric, with walk so slow its 20 years behind what ASIMO did and couldn't hold a candle to Boston Dynamics.

  • +1

China EV is better than Tesla. Elon Musk is impressed with China's EV development. He knows he can't compete and move to space x and other works

Not just EV but AI and Gps technology all better than US and rest of the world. People just got no idea

Oh I forgot to say Smartphone as well

Nobody innovated 3 fold phone like Huawei. Even Samsung admit they lack innovation and their market share has shrunk

Do not forget Tesla battery is also made by BYD and BYD is the renown EV brand in China and getting across to other countries, at much better price point ratio

  • +1

No wonder. Byd all the time

    • BYD so buggy. Cameras, lane assist, software so glitchy, it’s like a Chinese android phone. Looks nice but insides are dodgy

  • +2

If musk really wants to prove that he actually supports freedom etc. he needs to release some base model “Freedom Edition” EVs.
Absolute minimal tech, no tracking, no propriety BS, no subscriptions, and right to repair.
I’m thinking 3 models to begin with, sizes would be like a 90s Corolla hatch, same size as one of his current Model 3s, and a “compact” 4x4 ute that’s is basically a late 90s Hilux.

    Never going to happen…

  • +5

    I've had my m3 for 5 months, here's a quick review.

    Great build quality
Cheap to run (total cost, $60)
Excellent power, faster then any car I've personally driven
The stalk less driving is very good, and much more intuitive then you think
One pedel driving is the only way to drive a car.
    Love the heating and cooling
    Great sound system

I would describe the driving experience as worry free driving…

    • Exactly, same for me with my new model 3. It’s the best. All the haters are either anti trump/elon. Or can’t afford it.

  • +2

Now don’t forget to give a honest and objective review in 5years time.
    Thanks

  • Even now there's millions to be made on Tesla options. Its actually absurd at this point, I know people who've made enough to retire. Good quarters, bad quarters, if you don't think Musk will keep finding ways to create value then you never will.

    • Theres a big difference between a manipulated share 'value' and sales of vehicles.

      • Then where's the price correction ? CNBC have been saying that for years.

        • Who knows! There isna good chance thebshare market has been manipulated by those with money and power. Elon has been accused of manipulating share prices a number of times purely by tweeting a short phrase.

Theres been little competition for tesla and plenty of subsidies and incentives thrown at it over the years. I would be surprissd if it wasnt overvalued on hype amd potential - of which theres been plenty.

          • @Euphemistic: So you don't know yet you claim price manipulation ?
Tesla have been valued as a car company for years with no regard to their software and business structure. With automation, Optimus and Musks ability to create value the company is guaranteed to rally again soon.

            • @Tasmaniac: Tesla and Tesla shares are a fraud. Musk is a scammer and a fraud that has created nothing. He pumps the stock and now that Trump is in he will have the full green light of the pumps. Nothing but a fraud stock just like NVDA.

              • @[Deactivated]: Stocks don't remain overpriced for decades. The hatred for Tesla is what makes it a bargain.

                • @Tasmaniac: He pumps it on X.

Creative accounting and a cult following with sheep.

He is a fraud. Even the name Tesla is stolen.

  • +3

I'd purchase one if I could justify the cost, but my limit would be $40K AUD and even that is a stretch

  • And let see it fall even further since Elon has helped secure another Trump presidency.

    • Very true.

People are in fact unable to make the connection due to…. various deficiencies

  • +4

    Not surprised,

    1. Made in China
    2. Little to no innovation compared to previous years models
    3. They all look the same
    4. No longer seen as a premium brand
  • +3

    Tesla cars too expensive, imo.

    • +2

If they prioritised a model 2 rather than the stupid truck that cant be sold except in USA im sure a cheaper tesla would be a sales winner. Model 3 and Y are appliances. Theyre old school exterior design doesnt do anything to inspire sales.

      • +1

This so much. 31k last month or now 33k for an mg4 51 driveway. What’s that, half a model 3?

  • +3

Just went to the EV AutoShow. Can straight up tell you Xpeng, Deepal, Zeekr and BYD will be the go to rather than Tesla. Comfort, smart and good design, cheaper

    • Was Polestar represented there? Seem like good cars, but apparently they're not doing too well. Would be a shame if they vanished.

      • doubtful they will vanish, they are owned by Geely, essentially one of the many sub brands on the premium spectrum

    • I disagree I've been in all of them and they're a worse UX than I imagine they would be. Sure they represent better value but as a whole, I don't think thats the case.

They are however, better than the European brands slightly though

  • +3

Slump harder papa Elon! Discount Teslas at fire sale prices for all!
