  • Base price should be $865.80, my bad. I can't change it as it is in the title.

  • How does it compare to this
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/873328

    • The t is a higher tier than the e, I think it's e->p->t-> x in regards to series from worst to best. But the t series recently have been mediocre.
The one you linked might have a metal body. So I'd rather go with the t14s.

Ordered just to cancel as I noticed same laptop available on ebay for $848 and other outlets sub $1K. So, this is not real 42% off or whatever Lenovo is claiming.

  • I know its not related directly (sorry) but adding office subscription is a good idea or cheaper elsewhere? I would interested about perpetual license for home use only. Thanks

  • I need a affordable travel laptop. Would this be good enough for travel and also photo editing using lightroom?

    • +1

That 45% NTSC isn't going to be great for photo editing. I have a 45% NTSC display and it's OK, but I wouldn't be using it for any colour sensitive work.

I already stopped looking at their RRP & discount %, it is all BS illusion to make you thinking you scored a great deal.

    • Looking for a generous speced laptop for education and home use purposes under $1000. So many Lenovo deals recently, totally confused about which one to get.
      Any recommendations? TIA

      • I would stick with either the L or T models, although they might not come in under $1000. Even the L / Yoga build quality has decreased from 3 years back (my daughters L380 has taken some beatings this past 4 years and still going strong), but still a step up from your E models. We've been buying E models for our home pc for years now (4 in total - always docked) and we replace them every couple to few years due to some non functional issue (T models all the way for us now), so if deciding for school, i'm not sure how these will hold up in a school bag is all. All depends on the kid really.

    • Yep the RRP is nonsense. But generally, buying direct from Lenovo you get a lot more from your money than if you walked into a JB HI FI.

  • sorry might be a dumb question, can this laptop be docked and be charged at the same time using the same cable? I believe USB c….

  • Its a 5625u (2022 refresh of the 2021 5600u chip) rebranded, combined with the 45% ntsc screen, d4 ram and all that? Hardly a deal with those acer swift gos deals being anywhere from 150-200 more for a far stronger (current gen amd/intel) chip with a crisp, bright oled screen, bigger battery and better IO selection (HDMI 2.1 vs 1.4b, dual USB4/TB4 depending on cpu) to boot.

Yes, Acer does not exactly get a good reputation out there, but newer Thinkpads, especially lower end ones, also dont deserve the reputation they used to held.

Literally just can not justify recommending going for these at all with the price acers at, with the extra $$$ you get so much more for that.

You are worth it. Dont give Lenovo (or anyone else for that matter) justification to continue throwing 45% ntsc panels at us. Just because the laptop market isnt great down here doesnt mean they can continue throwing crap panel skus in our region. Thinkbook 16 2024 (8845H, 1600P120hz ips panel, 1TB SSD, 16GB ram) can be had on lenovos official JD store(near equiv of chinese amazon) for 4160 yuan. You do the conversion and see how much we are being shat on here. Sure different market, theirs being much more competitive, etc, etc. I dont care, all I know is we are getting borderline ewaste while they get a flagship rig for the same currency exchanged. Its clearly intentional and acer have shown that they can do better.

      Good feedback!
Would you mind giving us links for those Acer laptops that are much better?
In my own case, I'm looking for a reasonably cheap laptop for my daughter starting year 7 in Feb. I don't really care if it's not as good as other laptops that are $200 or $300 more expensive as I do not want to spend this extra for something she will not need…
Is there anything better for that price nowadays?

    • +2

You're really forgetting about build quality. I've seen so many of those Acers fall apart over the years - the ThinkPads, not so much

Whilst the screen might not be ideal Acer is a sh*t brand for quality assurance. As I’ve commented elsewhere I use to be a V&V engineer including contractor work for laptop OEMs doing mainly system side verification…

      TL;DR points are:

      1) Lenovo hands down have the safest enterprise software development approach including regular ISO auditing. Their development process mirrors NIST framework including defence level standards. This means you as end user is much safer going with Lenovo than Asus, MSI, Acer etc.

      2) Hardware quality & control is superior from Lenovo as they’re scaled across all phases of product development to manufacturing. Lenovo OEM solutions offers manufacturing OEM expertise that are leveraged by other major vendors. With brands like MSI, Asus, Acer… They are what you might call Commercial of the Shelf middleman brands that have zero in-house manufacturing control and often do not even control/participate in the initial system design phase… Acer is notorious for essentially buying off the shelf system designs/build packages from Chinese OEMs that exclusively cater to brands like Acer to rebrand and upsell. So if Acer is cheaper just think how much cheaper they would’ve sourced their parts/integration/design/production from the actual OEMs… Acer cuts cost by reducing V&V scope, increasing margin of faulty product across acceptance and the most important part, sourcing rejected components below certain quality level vs. brands like Lenovo.

There’s so much more I can go into but at the end of the day, cherry picking a potential less positively reviewed product line from Lenovo to justify Acer > Lenovo is nonsense

i do agree that acers qc is bad but the newer gen thinkpads has been a hit or miss and misses quite more often than u think. i got a e485 and it had to be replaced twice because of coil whining when plugged in. its not bad or anything but its quite annoying. on top of that the power delivery was also quite flawed from what i know as the last motherboard i had did not charge. also the chasis design wasnt great and it flexes the pcb so much that when i lift it the m.2 ssd disconnects. had 2 mobo swaps and same issue persists. also i know this is a known issue to this single model and i cant really speak for other models but from my point of view lenovo does not deserve the amount of glazing ur giving.

      • I can confirm my experience as a tech falls in line with this. Hinge and chassis structural issues are a real issue on many consumer grade laptops, especially Asus, Acer and HP, unless you coddle them and use them like a desktop PC

seems like lenovo is chucking shitty deals our way before black friday to see when people start buying.

  • Looks like one chonky-ass boi
