Picked up a Lenovo pro 5i Legion from outlet after seeing one of your comments on another post.

    Truly doing god's work.

I bought a LOQ laptop couple of weeks ago for $839

      Great specs and performance!!

    • Yeah saw that and almost got it but the 14900HX worries me after reading a lot from reddit.

  • Don’t forget 13% cash back also

    • Does cashback apply? It says this: Cashback is ineligible on the following: Purchases via the Outlet Store and any Employee Purchase Programs such as Corporate partner stores.

    • +4

Cashback doesn't apply to Lenovo Outlet purchases

  • Which is the better purchase, this or https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/873218 For general uni work. Thanks.

If you need 4G connection and small form factor, T14s is a better one.
For better screen and performance for gaming or editing, IdeaPad Pro 5 is better.

    • +1

I was going to say the main difference physically is the display dimensions of 14" in the thinkpad vs 16" in the Ideapad Pro. So if size is a factor at all, that could help you decide.

    • T14S is business class, while its not the old IBM it is from the old IBM team and still solid built with the ThinkPad tradition. I think the x1 carbon is still the best choice of the traditional ThinkPad, while the T or X series are quite good, with the build quality and keyboard experience slightly below the x1 carbon but above any other windows laptops in the market.
Idealpad is consumer grade, more entertainment friendly but it's like Lenovo vs IBM in the old times

The panel is Touch. MT is Multi Touch and It's FHD webcam

    • +1

Holy shit, I bought one of these from @Kazusa's link a couple of days ago and it has the MT screen. I was like "uhh, I'm sure mine isn't touch."

Sure enough, I went over and touched the screen and it registered. You've just made my day @rjams23 🤣

      • How long did it take for them to ship it? There's no timeline on the listing.

        • +1

I ordered on Tuesday, I think they shipped on Wednesday and it came on Thursday morning.

  • Good deal.

  • Hey @Kazusa, do you know if is there any way to upgrade warranty options on these? Or purchase after the fact? There's no option to upgrade on the Outlet store it seems and need premium support for my daughter for school…

    • +1

I started to use T23 of Thinpad from IBM. Overt the last 20 more years, I have never used any warranty on T/X/Z models of Thinkpad.

      • I hear you, and if purchasing for myself then all good, but my daughter is going to be throwing this thing around in her bag, so i'm thinking it's a good recommendation by the school, if at least for the first 3 years…

Looks like you can purchase warranty after the fact, so might just pull the trigger.

        • Anyway, the screen and battery are most ikely covered under separate warranties according to the terms and conditions.

    • +1

@ScottyP you can upgrade after the fact. I bought mine on the last post, and it came yesterday. Here's a screenshot: https://imgur.com/a/RzdRuOc

I'm able to add warranty options, but onsite is expensive. I'll probably wait until warranty is almost up though and then see if they give me a discount.

      • Thank you for this, just what I wanted to know. But that's crazy expensive for onsite (and no option to add on cheaper at purchase) and kills the deal, especially that I need 3+ years, and known issues with the USB C charging port. I'll keep looking.

        • ah fair enough. I normally would opt for onsite warranty, but I'm not interested in forking out what they want for it, but I'll definitely be adding a 3y warranty (whatever is reasonable) once the first year is up, as I don't trust a laptop to last.

    • I've purchased Lenovo laptops from various computer shops and managed to get extended warranty via Lenovo. Contact Lenovo and give the serial number of the laptop and then they can quote how much extra warranty is.

Solid product, especially it is T14s. I purchased T14s Gen1 AMD three years ago for daughter and paid more than this new model (Gen4). I was almost to buy T14 Gen5 few days ago and then realised it it not T14s (slim model).
T14s Gen1 AMD is already very good. The girl carried the laptop day in and day out and have to rely on battery only. Only recently she complained the battery can't last a whole day (occasionally).

  • 45% ntsc color coverage if anyone is wondering

means ok for office work, not good for creative or content consumption

Like T14 in general, but the T14s has zero upgradability (RAM/SSD). I agree 32gb RAM is enough, but the SSD is not big enough

  • +1

Got a T14 gen2 amd for my son a couple of years back.
It has a single usb-c charging port that broke (probably due to rough treatment), but turned it into a brick. Local repair store couldn't fix it.
Saw a few similar cases on ebay

  • Wow awesome deal. I got a t14s g4 7540u/16gb last month for $1500, wish I had waited.

    • you can always return

      • 20% restocking fee according to link in OP

        • even if it is not bought from the outlet?

      • I bought from an ebay seller in the US

  • Sold out. Hesitated till the last moment in check out.

      He who hesitates masturbates

Just bought one. Must be destined. It popped back up. Succumbed to FOMO.

  • Fk that's a great price. No wonder snapped up so soon.

  • +2

Looks like they have so many in stock and love being ozbargained by you guys here, another 50 pops up again there now, go go go and smash them all again !!!

  • 46 available

    • +1

      FOMO regret setting in.. 🤦

  • Too bad the display is so meh, otherwise solid spec.

  • Some company must have gone bankrupt and sold them all back, there's 37 listings atm

  • Is this touch screen ? Can anyone confirm please. Thank you

    • yes

  • got mine,
    thanks op

  • Wish this was the 400nit screen.

    • +2

bought it anyway, been waiting too long now for the perfect spec'd non-budget range thinkpad to come on sale for the right price, this is as close as i'll ever get!

      • same, I’ve been waiting for a good deal on a well built Thinkpad and this was as close as I’ll get as well. I wanted the OLED display but I wasn’t prepared to fork out an extra $800+ to buy something customized.

        • generally thinkpads and oleds don't go well together anyway. oleds drain too much power, and are generally used on the media consumption range like the ideapads and yogas, not on the productivity-focused thinkpad range.

          • @plentifoo: yeah that is a fair point, but I rarely use laptops on battery, so a nice screen would’ve been great. That being said, the 45% 300N display isn’t as bad as I thought it would be, but I would’ve happily swapped touch for a better quality screen.

Anyway, beggars can’t be choosers, and this was still a fantastic deal.

            • +1

@danct9a: you already got your laptop? that's quick!

I do have a X13 gen 2 here with a 45% 300N screen too, it's not bad, if you didn't have anything to go by or compare next with, it's actually pretty good.

it's always good to know you have the best for less is all.

              • +1

@plentifoo: haha I ordered when I saw Kazusa's deal originally posted in the T14 thread here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/15830125/redir

I've gotta say, shipment was pretty quick though, I ordered on Tuesday last week and it arrived on Thursday morning (Sydney -> Sydney shipment).

I agree with you, the 45% is OK, but I have seen the OLED (I had a Legion Slim 5 14" with an OLED - which I ended up returning), and it's hard to go back 😂 I also have an Alienware 13R3 (it's now almost 8yo), but I can't let it go because of that beautiful OLED display. But this T14s is such a good deal, I'm stoked I came across it, even more since I don't like the notch on the Gen 5s.

                • +1

@danct9a: if you are inadvertently laptop hoarding like me, then having more than one laptop for different purposes isn't the end of the world. it was never intended, but i have a weird obsession for thinkpads. i've gone through at least 10 in my time, either personal or via work.

i, too, hate the new notch design, i reckon it cheapens the visual aesthetic, takes away from how sleek the thinkpads used to look. the t14s gen 4 is likely the last AMD of its kind. This is a really good deal if you've been hunting around specifically in the world of thinkpads for a while.

                  • @plentifoo: I'm a fellow laptop hoarder and also a Thinkpad lover 😂 (I've got an X230 on hand and had a couple of others over the years). I'm not a huge fan of how everything is going plastic or aluminium though, as the plastic is … well, plastic, and the aluminium tends to be a plastic chassis with brass inserts, glued to the sheet of aluminium (or at least that's what I've seen on their Legion series). I've been trying to find a Magnesium body for ages. I wish the lid wasn't made of carbon fibre, but rather Mg like the body too, but I am not sure anything like that exists anymore, sadly.

Agreed, I really think it cheapens the look of the laptop too, I'm glad we picked up one of these T14s.

                    • @danct9a: repurposed my X230 for my niece over 3 years ago, i dare not ask what's become of it. i realise it wasn't utilised after amassing a whole bunch of more recent thinkpads. i still have a t480s with 48gb ram and that thing feels like a tank compared to all the plastic/carbon magnesium hybrid chassis these days.

                      • @plentifoo: jealous! I haven't let go of the X230 as it's the ol' faithful but it's definitely getting on in age and quite slow now. I'm hoping this new bad-boy lasts a while, though I am not sure I'll get the 10y I got out of the X230.

I have to say that the T14s G4 does feel fairly solid, definitely not on par with some of the older units but it feels more solid than some other laptops I've been issued at work (HP Elitebook/Dell Latitude). The Latitude 7440 I have creaks when you pick it up with one hand, so I'm happy to report the T14s doesn't seem to have that issue … yet.

  • Off topic, but Lenovo has a black Friday promo affecting T14 Gen 5.

Starts at 1340 and my spec'd machine is about $1500 after all is said and done. Will do the other upgrades myself

    • I have a t14 gen 5 for work. Had a x1 carbon gen 6 or 7 before. Prefer the updated specs but they gave me one with 16gb ram and I couldn't even upgrade it to 32gb myself. So I essentially got a heavier and bulkier laptop with not alot to show for it.
