  • OOS 🙊

  • Are these reliable though? Or likely to fail?

    • +6

Seems like they have a high failure rate https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/z3lziq/thoughts_o…

    • +3

They fail a lot unfortunately. I've had like 3 or 4 die out of 15

    • +2

I've had 3 Silicon Power SSDs.

2 have failed. 1 is unopened due to fear of it failing.

They were used for unimportant data, but the saving wasn't worth it even then. I replaced the most recent failure with a lower-end model from a more reputable brand.

    Fikwot is better value

How about this one for gaming drive? 4TB PCIE 4.0 for $160.

    https://www.mwave.com.au/product/silicon-power-ud85-4tb-m2-n…

    • Bought 2 of these and 2x 2Tb ones silicon power is generally very good

    • +1

dramless QLC is beyond abysmal, expect like 1/4 the speed of 7200rpm HDDs in seq.

also expect read/writes speeds to drop to 0 during SLC recovery and massive stuttering if your game requires a lot of shader caching

silicon power makes decent drives, not that one.

      • Perfectly fine for movie/anime storage ect

    • Was about to post the same thing. Seems like a decent price for 4tb.

      • +3

It seems to be ATL for this 4TB model? Other 4TB SSDs are at around $300.

    • what makes it cheaper than others?

    • +1

Thanks , got 2 4tb ones which made it free shipping too.

      • you got the last ones, damn you i was about to purchase after doin some research i had it in cart too

        • I missed 2tb ones initially doing my research so didn't think much about these 😀

        • @Roe Jogan Order cancelled. Maybe due to your curse lol.

  • It said 0 stock but still let me buy one.

    • Wow $49 for 4TB, there has to be a catch !!!

  • The prospect of purchasing two 4TB at $160 each for free delivery sure is tempting, the only thing holding me back is knowing people don't seem to trust Silicon Power durability, highest failure rate compared to Samsung and Crucial.

  • Well they have 5 year warranty, so that's something if they have good after sales support.

  • Mwave have dumped almost the entire Silicon Power range today

There have been reviews confirming that besides the stickers, the physical layout and design of recent SP drives is identical to those from Fanxiang and Fikwot

So when these SP drives fail, at least you can play the warranty game with Mwave

    • Perhaps the drives that fail SP quality control are going to Fanfikwotxiang? Or they're both just using the same factory now.

    • Looks like they had price errors for the full Silicon Power range today, doing refunds now.
XS70 4TB was about $180 and OOS, now $489 in stock, the 4TB UD85 is in stock again at $335.

It was a good deal at $160, even for the low end drive but certainly not worth it at $335.

  • Thank you for that information, looks like they are OOS now. Now I don't have to wonder anymore, haha

    • Simple rules with these cheap drives:

      1. How much time will you use to chase the warranty and potential replacement drive?

      2. How much time will you use to buy and install a new replacement drive?

      3. Even if you are storing replacable data eg. game libraries, how much time will you use to re-download and re-setup the data?

Not every cheap drive is shit but with these low tier brands, you're rolling the dice every time you power them on

  • Received email saying order cancelled due to pricing error.

  • +1

Got refunded haha I gave them a call something went very wrong on their system hahaa shame.

  • Just got a refund on the 4tb as well

  • Has anyone who paid using Paypal got a refund yet?

    • Yes paid with PayPal but no refund yet

    • Received an email regarding the pricing error but no refund yet.

    • Just a reminder that you are dealing with MWAVE. Their processing time is like EBay in the 90s. You will receive an update within a week.
And I have been cancelled by them for pricing errors for 3 times. That should be the odd for winning a lottery.

      • Geez. Never shopping with them again.

  • These guys are crazy. Cancelled order immediately but no refund until now. Paid with PayPal.

    • Another fund raiser show for mwave for sure, thats ridiculous!

  • Yep no refund for me either. Paid with Afterpay.

It is a breach of contract. They had accepted the payment and allocated the inventory.

    • Pricing error is an exception.

      • -1

They had accepted the payment and allocated the inventory. The excuse of "pricing error" will not hold up in court.

        • XD

  • +1

    Refunded just now.

    • Got mine too …
