The MR90X AX6000 has dropped from the previous deal price $158.95 to $133.95 (25% off), but there is a link that says any two eligible products from TP-Link receive an extra 20% off.

This makes a whole bunch of Routers or networking equipment cheaper if bought x2, but the best discount is the MR90X, which can also run OpenWrt.

The 20% goes until December 31, but the additional 25% might not last long.

    Two routers?

WiFi won’t know if it’s coming or going

  • +3

    These can run OpenWrt.

    • What is openwrt.

Btw if on nbn 100 or 50 plan would this router benefit? Sometimes we have weak signal for 5ghz frequency

Also any other benefit with this router

Edit: think might be os for router

      • Openwrt is alternative open source software that runs inside of the router. It replaces the manufacturers one. Ut has a ton of features and regular updates.

Your NBN speed has nothing to do with weak Wifi signal.
Also this router may or may not help, depending if your current one is crap.
If you have a large house/property look into Wifi mesh routers. Those are multiple devices that cooperate to distribute the signal over larger area.

    • Oh nice. Definately a bargain

I have this router, bloody awesome with like 30+ devices. Only downside on the stock firmware…can't limit speeds via SSID, QoS setup is average.

    not enough antennas

Perfect gift for someone with arachnophobia.

      • wow arachnophobia in 2024? someone's gonna get cancelled

      • I was thinking that too!

    • Someone always complains! is more truly better?

    • Wi-Fi 7 version was only $209, how did I miss that (T_T)

  • I purchased this item https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0D92F5HX4?psc=1&smid=ANEGB3WVE… with the router for the combined cost of $116 with the additional 20% off

    • Great/Cheap minds think alike, I did exactly the same, came to around $100 all up

  • Do these work as a mesh w/Cat5 backhaul?

    • You should be able to use the second router as an Access Point (AP) only with cabled backhaul, which would work as a basic extended wifi solution.

There doesn't seem to be any documented "Mesh" features or Open Mesh in either stock or openwrt firmware, so I wouldn't expect roaming features or centralised management.

      • Thanks, 2 separate networks isn't the end of the world.

    • See my post below.

      OpenWrt will do mesh.

Connect NBN router (lan) - (wan) router 1 (lan) - (lan) router 2

  • These are great routers with Openwrt

    Need more antennas

  • Bought one last week to replace my telstra smartmodem 2 which i have been using with other nbn providers for a few years now. This one is so much better than the telstra one. The range of the 2.4 ghz band is amazing and even through 9 inch thick stone walls of my house i am gettong a decent signal.

  • In a large four bedroom family home, would I be okay with this, or should I look at the Mercusys AX6000 Whole Home Mesh Wi-Fi 6 System instead? Some areas of our house aren't currently covered very will with our old D6400 – AC1600, and it can't keep up with the gaming and streaming any more.

    • Put one at each end of the house and turn on mesh settings but link from one to the other with a long Ethernet cable (can be up to 100m cat5 or above) to make a wired back haul, plug it in to lan ports on both end so they end up on the same subnet. Turn off the dhcp server and firewall on the furthest one from the NBN router. Go from NBN router to wan port on closer one.

I would recommend installing OpenWrt and follow this video

  • Deal didnt last long.
