@SlinkyDemille: A strong burst of light (which this isn't capable of) using a tactical button is used for self defence on modern torches. Using a blunt instrument is likely to result in either a lawsuit or the weapon being turned on you.

Maglite, now thats a brand I haven't heard for a long time. My 4D maglite I purchased back in the early 2000s is still going strong.

    • Yeah I need to update my 2D to a LED bulb.

I recently donated my 4D to my local saint vinnies. Couldn't be bothered with the big batteries or converting it to led.

Kinda weak, heavy and big being D battery based. Unless you dont want to deal with charging 18650 batteries smaller more powerful one would better IMO.

Heavy is a feature for the target market.

How many examples are there of people successfully defending themselves with a flashlight? Vs having to lug around a heavy thing around.

      • I had to share this youtube thumbnail I just saw.
how are you meant to hold it with two hands??! 😂

some torch people are on another level. like putting fake rubber horse balls on your truck level.

Hard to believe 412 lumens is the best Maglite can offer here in 2024.

    • I remember seeing the brand name on an old torch I think it used AA’s though.

they are a famous brand aren’t they?

around 500lm is enough for a torch imo. in the dark when you switch it on it’s on the side of “too bright” because it’s lighting up a small area. I usually press the button a second time on my Osram led torch to turn it down to 250.

      • sorry wrong info. low on the osram led torch is 150lm.

    • They also make a range of far better torches.

Why would you buy a torch that takes old tech D cell batteries when you can buy ones that take lithium ion (18650) which will be brighter & last longer for much less?

  • Because Nostalgia.

LOL @ all the people thinking the "2x D cell" Maglight is a "batton". 3 and more appropriatly, the 4 cell Maglights are the battons.

Also Maglight is a dinosaur of the light world. The Kodak of torches. Failure to adapt or get better. They only thing they have going for them is their construction, but outside that, you can get better, brighter and cheaper alternatives.

I have $10 pen lights from Aldi that are brighter and last longer than my 30yo 3x D cell Maglight. Even converting it using the VERY expensive genuine LED kit from Maglight and it still is rubbish. I bought one of their new LED versions of the same 30yo light I have and it is rubbish. A full moon is brighter than my 2yo LED Maglight. I have a $19 LED no name brand I got from Bunnings ages ago and you could literally boil water at 100m with the beam that comes out of this thing.

And a 2x D cell Maglight is not even worth it for the "nostalgia" at that price. 412 lumens? What is this, a torch for ants?

    • and you could literally boil water at 100m with the beam that comes out of this thing.

proof please or it didn't happen. 😂

maybe the long 6x D alkaline battery model put out 800lm and that's why people back then were like whoaaa…
