Comments

    • Aqara is surprisingly reliable. Works with matter, HomeKit, Google etc

    • +1

I was looking at going down reolink stuff, is this a better route for indoor or should I keep it to 1 brand for simplicity.

      • I use three brands (Arlo, Wyze, Aqara); but I have a G2H Pro as it supports HomeKit Secure Video

      • Reolink has 2.5 years warranty fyi

And is often even cheaper from Aliexpress

    • Anyone knows if firmware is international or cn version?

      • Is the firmware different? I always thought it was to do with the server location on your account

  • This price is crazy. You can buy four at aliexpress.

    • For the P2 (which is the new Thread/Matter version) this is seems like a good price - I can't even find it on AliExpress.

That said I'm happy to stick with their older Zigbee based Miija sensors for ~$15/unit single price.

    • You're confusing the old model with this new model.

  • +2

I'm using IKEA parasoll sensors for the same purpose since I cannot justify the price of this one from Aqara. They're connected to my HA.

    • +1

Me too - IKEA parasoll works fine with Z2M on Home Assistant.

  • Maybe was buy the Mirabella Genio Door Sensor for $10 and connect it with the Tuya app.

    • Na, I'm sure wifi ones drains battery quick. Zigbee ones lasts a long time, I can't recall when I've had to change my batteries but I would guess once every 2 years?

  • Tuya ZigBee door sensors can be had for $4usd or less from AliExpress. The benefit also is they take two AAA batteries which last much much much longer and are dirt cheap compared with CR2032 or CR2450 like some other sensors use

    • Do they need a hub, or can they interface directly with HA?

      • +1

I'm currently trying out moes as I didn't want large sensors everywhere, uses cr2032. Works fine with HA.

        • Two of my no name brand cr2032 ZigBee ones from AliExpress just report 1% battery in HA even with a fresh battery in them. Others of the same model report battery normally. They all seem fine for reporting open and close actions, just not reporting on their current state (show as unavailable in HA if it's been a minute or so since they opened or closed)

      • +1

If you get the WiFi type, then I guess you can connect it to your normal router via WiFi (although you might have a separate wifi setup just for your IOT stuff for security reasons).

If you get the Zigbee type (or get the Ikea Parasoll sensors mentioned above), you'll need a Zigbee hub.

I see some listings with both WiFi and Zigbee in the name, but I think those are actually Zigbee.

      • +1

You need a ZigBee dongle or hub.

ZigBee is much more energy efficient than wifi so I wouldn't recommend wifi sensors.
