I was looking for some speakers to go with the Yamaha receiver from JB. Found this old deal http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/80035 for the speakers at $344 delivered. Now they're $275USD (appx $265AUD) delivered.

Edit:
Since some people missed it, the speakers are $129, and delivery is $145.

Seems like a pretty damn good price. Wouldn't get anything near that quality in Aus for that price.
Ordered a set anyway, not sure whether they'll go in the lounge room or PC room (will depend how they sound).

  • report back on how they sound, keen to hear

    • +1

      But he said 275 delivered?

      • +1

True, bought one for myself anyway. Seem like a really good deal.

    • +1

Seriously, after factor in the bulky shape and weight of the speakers, the shipping is quite reasonable IMO. Imagine if Amazon ships this item from Australia to US, the postage will easily become double or triple!

    • go get quotes on shipping the same sized/weight (25kg 90cm long box) item from any of the US shipping companies and compare it to what amazon are charging…
      amazons shipping charges are cheap

    • Seriously, how much did you expect it to be?

    • +1

Please, I'd like to see you send a similar speaker package to America and get it to cost less.

      • True that shipping from Australia is even worse. Good deal none the less.

      • i just sent a package (221gm) to my friend in Switzerland and Australia post charged me $17. unbelievable.

        • Airmail? LOL, I wonder if anything worth "sending / exporting" from Aus other those in "raw" forms such as coal, live stocks, fruit while importing finished goods seem very attractive to us.

  • just bought some. I have some older similar speakers but wrong colour, they are beach colour, these match the new furniture so a bargain really.

Considering I paid $1k for a pioneer amp and cheap Australian speakers 5 yrs ago these speakers alone are a bargain. I will use my sub from the cheap speakers I got, almost bought the Jamo sub from Amazon as well but $ came into it.

  • howzz the quality riggit???

    • Will let you know when I get them :-)

All reviews are pretty good for what they are. Trusted reviews and individual reviews on newegg/amazon all pretty good as long as you are not extremely particular about sound quality, audiophile.

  • By Oz standards thats a decent price, which just goes to show how bad things are here!

A good quality powered sub would work nicely with these as an upgrade in the future… well thats my opinion anyway :)

    • +1 for nice deal, got any ideas for a sub for this?

      • Personally I like REL .. no idea if they are sold in Australia as I got my one from the UK.

        • How much? Is it the same price range?

        • No not really… but cheap subs are generally pretty awful… need to have a listen and see (or rather hear).

If you are coming from a setup with now sound system or a system in a box you will more than likely be totally happy with these as they are..

Generally though you honestly need to have a listen, everybody likes different sounds and even the shape/size of your room is going to give you a different experience compared to somebody else with the exact same equipment.

        • OK, a lot of speaker are better than Jamo.

If you said personal like, I like KEF but they are like ten thousand dollars.

        • I am sure you could get some KEF overseas for a lot less than 10K… Amazon sell and ship some here.. but there are probably cheaper places to get them.

        • Aussiehifi sells em.

        • Yeah I know not all model like ten thousand but no way to get a pair for $270.

  • bought one thanks lucky was looking for this from long time now only need one good sub any recommendation will be appreciated .Thanks again great find

  • JB price is $1300 in black with Sub.

Does anyone know what the speaker input type are? clips?

  • I don't really know anything about speakers but looking to get new ones for my pc.
Would there be a way to use these speakers for my pc? Or do you need an amp to use these?
    Thanks

    • You need an amp/receiver.

      • Ok. Thanks

    • By the look at the size you want to put it next to your PC?

      • +1

Well yeah. Put the big ones on both sides of my desk. Plus my plasma tv is next to my pc.
I'm assuming these speakers would be better than my crumby creative 5.1 system from 8 years ago.
It'd be possible to use these speakers for both the pc and tv using an av receiver at the same time right? (I have no idea about amps/receivers :P )

      • My PC is hooked up to my living room tv so its perfect for me, but even if you want these speakers for your comp, the only thing you need to worry about is the size of your room.

        • Would you mind telling me how you've set yours up, as I have no clue about this stuff but am very interested about the setup and whether it's worth it or not, which I'm assuming is :P

        • Couple of things come to mind…for these speakers to be used with a PC, you will need a receiver that will pipe your 2-channel stereo through the 5 speaker setup (or you could just connect 2 to the amp and use it in stereo mode). These speakers can't be attached to your PC directly. As they need to be driven by an AMP.

If you get an amp, you could connect the "digital-out" from your PC to the "digital-in" on the amp. That would be cleaner than using a standard stereo cable.

My guess is if you need decent speakers for your PC, go with something like the Audioengine 5+ or M-Audio BX5 D2 (http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2410691,00.asp ).

These speakers would definitely sound better than your creative speakers as long as you set them up correctly with the right receiver.

        • So would the Yamaha RX-V373 along with these speakers do the job for connecting it to my pc (onboard soundcard) and tv?

          Thanks by the way.

        • From the looks of it, yes. I checked both the links on the page

          Yamaha receiver: http://shop.jbhifi.com.au/home%20theatre/amps-receivers/yama…

          Jamo speakers: http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/home%20theatre/speakers/jamo-…

In theory, it should be a decent pairing as the power output of the amp matches the speakers. You will need to heed some advice posted on the amazon site:
          http://www.amazon.com/dp/B003GGXGU6

"Additionally, these speakers ARE 6OHM and as such you WILL have to setup your receiver for the 6OHM speakers. This isn't a big deal depending on your receiver, but it does explain why some people are so ignorantly unhappy with them. Receivers are almost always set to default at 8OHMs for speakers. You need to look in your manual on how to set your receiver for 6OHMs, at 8OHMs these speakers are not getting the appropriate amount of power they need. These are in fact good quality speakers especially for the money. I love the sound."

        • Oh ok cheers.
So would the best way to connect the pc to the amp be simply through an optical cable?
Or through the 3.5mm coloured jacks on the soundcard?
Or is it both the same?

        • Depends on how fancy your sound card is. Are you doing this for music or other content such as games, movies etc. The reason I ask this is music is great when it's stereo (unless u're using music DVDs).

If your games are pumping out 5.1 audio or you movie player is pushing out 5.1 audio, best to connect the PC to the amp using an optical cable.

Standard 3.5mm connectors can be used provided you can connect all channels to the amp i.e. get 5.1 channels individually out of the PC and hook them up to the right inputs on the amp. Might be well worth a trip down to JBhifi to check out the back of the amp to see what input are available (I haven't seen any pics online yet).

          Cheers,
          rusty

        • Will be mainly for music and movies and on the odd occasion games.
Well the soundcard is actually on board so it won't be anything fancy. Can't even remember what outputs it has :P gotta check when I get home.
Yeah I've seen the back of it from the manual
          http://download.yamaha.com/api/asset/file/?language=en&site=…
I think it's got all the right inputs for the 3.5mm connectors if I need to use it…. :P

        • Yamaha is peaky and bright. Try for an Anthem or a Marantz.

  • Just bought this.. Need to find a Sub and AMP now.. great :(

    • +1
      • Yeah for the price that amp is v.good… you will not find it cheaper than that even overseas I believe.

You could easily argue that amp is class above these speakers.

        • I am looking for a good speaker set for the Yamaha amp that I just purchased

        • +1

Really go listen to some, take your amp if possible… everybody likes or needs something different. At the moment for instance I am using some Richter 501 as I have a toddler in the house so the full metal grill is very good at resisting fingers, i.e. my needs were more than just sound.

  • Does anyone know of a sub around $300 that'll go half decent? Currently have a Sony SA-W55 (9"@70W) in the lounge room and something like that would be fine/perfect for what I want. Even something better would be cool so I could upgrade the lounge room.

  • Did price just drop further? Sorry I never purchase from amazon before. Upon check out shows price as $129+$46 delivery.

Anyone know expected ship time for amazon to deliver to Perth?

    • +1

I just went to checkout again and it had the same price (as I got earlier ~$273 total) for postage. You sure you've got the right address? If so, I'm not sure why it's cheaper for you but I hate you for it.

    • I got $270 deliverred.

      • I had address pre-set from the last time I signed up so 100% address wasn't incorrect. I was concerned and re-opened the amazon app, the purchase price is now correct as $275 usd. The iPhone amazon app doesn't allow for choosing conversion method?

Anyway purchased hopefully its good for all rounder, movies and music.

    • Can you see the delivery before put in CC details?

So u guys used the default shipping not the priority, right?

  • +1

this is a very good deal guys, just goes to show the markup we have on products here

just remember, your amp will need to be setup for 6ohm speakers. if you dont know what this means, then dont get the speakers :)

also keep in mind you can get car audio for very cheap from amazon as well. i got a well known brand name 5 channel amp for $220 delivered, whereas the cheapest brand at jb hifi would be at least $550

    • From reading whats on google, I think 8 ohm amps can drive it too providing the amps matched/exceed the speakers power rating. It state so long as the amp is rated at 8ohm and not 8-16ohm which is more dangerous to run but it does mention risk, so I am not saying its 100% safe do at your own risk.

Btw anyone know if the pioneer 522 have enough juice to drive this baby?

And review/jamo site said front power rating is 140watts.
Is this rms rating? And what's the rating for the rest of the speakers (centre and surround)?

      • That's the amp I plan to use with mine so I assume it should be fine. It's 6Ohm by default so I doubt it'll have any trouble.

    • really; get an ohmeter and measure speakers. NONE of them are correct.
Keep ALL amps below 75% volume, and as long as its OK for 8, 6 wont kill it.

They have overheat protection now anyway.

  • Does this http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/86924 $5 off $25 apply to this deal? I know $5 is not much but better than nothing?

    • Yep, it does!

  • Guys, I'm noob with this sort of stuff. How would these rate compared to my existing Pioneer S-ES3TB setup? They're currently hooked up to a Pioneer VSX-520 (came as a package). This is the Receiver I plan on keeping if I were to get the speakers. Worth it or no? TIA

    • +1

I'd probably just keep what you've currently got.

  • +1

This would of been the ultimate deal if it also had a sub!

    • Yes it would've. But, even without the sub, it's still a decent price. Sub's are expensive on their own, sucks!

      • I have been looking at Jamo SUB 210 Subwoofer, cheapest I found is $245. Amazon won't ship it, but will ship the speakers. Go figure that out, ship big speakers, but not the sub.

        • Just choose the one sold by "Amazon LLC" and "add to cart", not other seller such as DigitalEtc. Then amazon should be able to ship it to oz.
edit: the shipping cost is about USD50, making to total of the sub to $218.4.

        • Only issue is it would need a power transformer, not worth it.

Tada! Turns out a bit cheaper than buying from Amazon US as well.

        • One review at link provided with just one star and this comment:
          "Lacked any sort of depth"

        • More like his review….

  • Great purchase!

    • You edited… :(

      • yes, my bad…..I stuffed up……

  • -8

LOL got excited seeing all the people saying it's $129.99.

$145 shipping cost on top people…

    • +1

Everyone knows that. It even says it in the title/description. Still easily worth the money.

      • -7

No they just all edited their posts.

$130's good enough for an impulse buy on an unneeded bulky item, $275 not so much.

        • +4

          what are you talking about?
the title has been $275 since it was delivered…

A few non-readers earlier whined about the postage cost but for this quality of speakers, this is a bargain

        • -3

I'm talking about how no less than 4 people above this said "OMG it's not $275 anymore it's $129 now!!!"

Then edited their posts so as not to look dumb.

I see that feathers got ruffled, good.

  • What do people think about this sub to go with it?

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/HOME-THEATRE-SUBWOOFER-ACTIVE-12-…

    • It will work but don't expect anything low freq.

      • +1

Accusound make great speakers - this sub would be great except the colour would be different to the speakers.

        • Agreed, this sub came with my Ref 6.6XDs and I couldn't be happier with it! :)

  • I don't really need it, but soo tempting. Tough decision. Adding the matching jamo 260 sub only adds another $80 shipping btw, although at $270 it's over twice the price of the speakers (but probably still very cheap compared to Australia). Then you'd have to worry about a power converter thing though I'd assume, but still.

    • +1

$623 with the $4.95 discount applied.

Hm, not bad considering JB selling it at $1,300.

      • The subwoofer included in your price of $623 is the 260 model. The JB package has the 210 subwoofer by the look of the picture. The 260 model is more expensive :)

    • What about the Sub 210? Would it be too underpowered?

      http://www.amazon.com/Jamo-SUB-210-Subwoofer/dp/B004QD002A/r…

      • That's the one in the JB package. Doesn't ship to Australia though.

      • Don't think so, it's 200 watts.

  • -5

bobjane, if you think $275 is too much for an impulse buy you need a higher paying job

    • +2

There are different types of people on here, those who live poor, looking to save every cent, those who are doing good and those that like to brag about having a good income. ^

I have a modest income, $275 is still too much for me to blow on impulse.

  • Bargain…thanks OP. It's a shame that the black ash set isn't the same price.

    • Hold on, the color is "wenge"? Never heard of it, thought it was some model number or something! Thanks for the heads up. A bit confusing as it also says "Contemporary, stylish black ash finish". So wenge is some sort of wood color from what I can tell?
EDIT: looks dark/black to me I mean, but I'm on a shitty laptop so the colors are a bit funny

    • I thought it was black ash. I don't like brown electronic, it looks dated

  • There are plenty of reviews around. Seems like a great deal.
