    • Yeah I did that, too. But last night I thought ‘I wonder if there’s more shit I’ll have to do once I get to the cart’ so I put the jaffle maker in my cart and yeah, there was. Luckily it kept all the extra info and with a refresh just changed the price of the jaffle maker, so I could go through more quickly. I’m sorry you weren’t able to get one 😞

      • The charge is still showing on my card but no orders in my Breville account. Will contact them if the charge doesn't drop off in a day or two.

  • +1

My PayPal charge is still sitting as pending and still no confirmation email.
Pretty sure I'm doomed to be cut loose :(

  • +2

I have to eat my words, received the order confirmation.

Breville invented the the jaffle maker back in 1974 and

As a digression, wasn't a "very similar" hot sandwich maker invented a long long time before? Like the ones you put on top of a gas burner/stove. Not electric, of course.

Am I wrong? Is my recollection incorrect?

  • -1

    Gosh!!! Google says:

The Australian name “jaffle” for a toastie is thanks to a Bondi doctor from the Little Bay Hospital. Dr Earnest Smithers patented his jaffle iron in 1949 and – according to the Australian Food Timeline website – within a year, the likes of Edgell's were advertising canned spag bol as a “new line for the jaffle iron”

    ! 1 9 4 9 !!!!

  • 28/10 still no confirmation and paypal still stuck at pending. Called up with the customer support and they said the promotion team is investigating. Will see, and congrat who got one from 100. :)

  • +1

So for those that still have a pending charge on their CC but no confirmation email or order on their account. I reported it to their customer service. They said that they will be dropping the charge and sending me a promo code for the same price when they get more stock.

    • You got a reply? I emailed them both before and after the competition about two different things, and I haven't received anything back.

      • If you go to the support centre when you login you can create a ticket

    From my earlier comment

Was in my cart for $19.74, pressed pay, checked my card - charged $139.95…

    Just received this:

    Hello,

Thank you for participating in the Original '74 birthday special promotion on Friday, 25 October.

Due to overwhelming demand the units we had available at the special price of $19.74 sold out quickly and as a result you were charged full price for the product.

Rest assured, we will honour the promotional price of $19.74 for the Original '74 and have processed a refund for the difference on your card.

    • +1

      LFG

    • +1

That's kinda strange, coz anyone could've proceeded to that same payment and then obtained it for the $19.74 special, but instead the majority just backed out of the purchase and didn't proceed through.

  • +2

    I got this

Due to overwhelming demand, we have temporarily run out of stock of the Original '74 product. We have released the hold on your card, and no charges were made.

We expect our next shipment to arrive by the end of November. As soon as it’s back in stock, you’ll be able to order it at the promotional price of $19.74. Simply use this unique promotion code:

I thought I missed out on the sale

Got one also..actually that's good of Breville to honour this.

    • Got the same - didn't even realise there was a hold on my card. Irresponsible Ozbargaining on my behalf.

Just received the email for later offer to purchase at $19.74, woohoo.

A great gesture to honour the deal, wonder what the original terms stated and if the legal team had to tell them to play nice. Promo was widely advertised on other forums as "first 100 users to add to their digital cart." That's a bad wording as we all got it in our cart and they failed to implement any stock controls.

Either way, bravo Breville for coming through, can't way to snap it up when available.

    • +2

Got this too. Well done Breville for honoring

  • +2

Good on you Breville, for fixing the mistake and doing the right thing by your customers!

  • +2

I got the same email honouring the item when back in stock at sales price.

I always like breville, but now I LOVE them

  • -3

if anyone got a code and doesnt need / want it anymore can you please pm me :) Good on breville for doing this

  • -1

Got the same email from Breville, great call by them to avoid a sentiment crash and make us happy customers !

  • For everyone getting the email, did you all accidently make the purchase at full price or did you write to them after complaining? I had it in cart, couldnt make payment, refreshed, went full price and gave up.

    • Same. I took a screenshot of it in my cart and emailed them asking if they would honour it. I haven't had a response, but I also opened a support ticket on their website this morning.

This is on top of emailing them before the promo when I signed up to their website and got an email saying I had a 10% welcome promo, but no promocode was listed. Replied to the email, and didn't get a response.
      "No coupons available
Explore the Breville difference and transform your kitchen. Enjoy 10% off your next purchase. Just use at checkout and we'll handle the rest."

Just use what at checkout? No code listed, nothing shown at checkout.

      • I got a reply to my ticket with a coupon code. Good service in the end that they are honouring it even though I wasn't able to get to the point of actually placing an order at either the discounted or original price.

    • +1

It was in my cart at $19.74. I had to refresh a few times but the prices always remained $19.74 - I always looked because I knew the 100 would go fast and I didn't want to get caught out.

I missed out on the final confirmation screen - I was stuck in 2FA limbo - but was charged $19.74. The charge dropped off on Tuesday or Wednesday. I got the email with my own code yesterday.

I did not contact Breville or my bank about this at any time. It was on my list of things to do if it had not resolved itself by the end of this week.

      • Nice. Strange for me though as first refresh it changed price.
I mean, I kind of new refreshing would kill the price but It wasn't moving.

    • Had the 19 buck charge on my cc

  • +1

actually i was offered a coupon to reorder this once its back in stock for $19.74. customer service is good!!

Just arrived today. However I had to run it in scrap bread to get rid of the chemical smell.

    • Did you make an edible one after? How was it?

      • Not yet. Will do it tonight

      • I have one of these and would highly recommend it. Only issue I have found is the disparity in bread sizes.

    • -1

Did the chemical smell go away?
I am a little suss on the Teflon coating is its in the news all the time as bad for humans

      • They use Teflon? Thought Teflon was banned years ago.

        • Most non stick coatings use similar chemicals and yep, Teflon is still widely used in Australia . I am using Teflon in the generic sense here I don't know whether actually use DuPont Teflon or their own version but the main point is about gassing off and smelling 'chemically'

          • +1

@King Tightarse: I usually avoid using non stick cookware but didn’t know Teflon was still used, now I should steer away from anything that has a non stick coating completely. I have a Breville sandwich press which I rarely use now and I remember it didn’t let out a chemical smell when it was new but there’s a smell always when you first heat it up and it’s probably coming from the heating elements.

I also have a cheapo $9.99 Aldi jaffle maker and it did release a chemical smell. I have stopped using it after a few times.

Now I just use a Philips Air fryer as it’s faster and easier to clean but it also has a non stick surface. Seeing it is mostly of some type of Teflon judging from your info, I will look for an alternative now.

      • +1

Tried using it yesterday as well. So far so good. Smell is gone now.

  • I got stuck on the PayPal loading page when I had it my cart for $19.74, and missed out. Thought oh well, my fault for being too slow/trying to pay via PayPal…but logged into these comments last week to read that people were getting codes for missing out, so I contacted support a few days ago and explained I missed out and if I can get it for $19.74 and they sent me a coupon for when it is back in stock 😬

    Thanks all!

  • +2

Is it ever coming back in stock?

    • Email said end of November

      • +7

It's back! I just ordered mine.

        • me too. :)

Let's see if I get 8% TCB cashback - tracked as a $208.77 purchase with $16.70 Cashback. I don't think I'll be counting on that one being paid…

        • Saved me from checking. Thanks!

  • +4

Just a reminder it is back in stock now. If you are lucky to have the promotion code from their promotion team, it is time to pull the trigger.

  • Back in stock! Thanks op and Breville.

  • +1

Just got mine delivered (2nd round promotion code) and the box is big for a double slice sized jaffle maker!

  • +1

Just got it delivered. $26 amex cashback paid 19

    • There’s an Amex cashback on? How did I miss that?

  • Mine makes jaffles with a really weird taste/smell that's almost chemical like… I've used it several times now.

    • That’s no good. Try turn it on on its own for 20 mins then wipe with wet towel and repeat a few times to see if the weird smell will go away

    • Yes these are super 'chemically' smelling - especially when new.
BTW I wouldn't eat anything that tasted tainted - maybe do a few sacrificial ones first
