I used to always get these at $9. Gone are the days

and $7.50 Bottles of Cobram 750ml.

Tell this to your kids - they won't believe you.
What a time to have been alive.

        • I remember being outraged when the price of rump steak hit $1/kg - back in the day … that would be early 1970s …

      • +1

Yep, was in WW yesterday, Cobram full price now $25!

        • +1

          WW3

    • Definitely a supply issue too. Lots of issues across Australia with poor/no harvests of huge swathes of trees.

      • +2

        Fact or artificial?

        • +2

We went to new Norcia (in WA) which has a few hundred trees, and the monks were commenting how they had essentially no crop this year. One small example of fact. But I'm sure other places are artificially inflating prices too "because they can".

But I'm sure other places are artificially inflating prices too "because they can".

Yeah these are the scum of the earth that I really don’t want any business with.

            • @kaleidoscope: Disagree, those with good crops should be cashing in to cover them for years they have bad crops

    • +1

Coles probably still gets them at the same price they used to 5 years ago but they love uncle Jack so they also jack up the prices either way.

The ripoff is horrendous these days this used to be $9 just don't buy it .

    • +2

It isn't a ripoff it's called asupply and demand.

Demand hasn't changed but supply has

      • +3

The demand for more money for same or less product is shrinkflation its a ripoff .

  • I swear I used to buy the coconut water for about $1 and anything over $2 would be an absurd comedic joke. Maybe I'm imagining it.

    • +1

Cocobella 1L was $5 ($2.50 when half price) since 2015.

      • Hmm! Must have been another brand then.

        • Maybe it’s not Coconut water that you’re buying 🤔

        • +2

Were you drinking cans of coconut milk?

  • +2

Still too expensive. Sticking to the switch I made to extra virgin coconut oil..

    • -1

Yes I'm using vegetable oil for cooking now

    • Which one do you get and at what price?

    • Taste is overpowering for a lot of applications

  • +1

These things go on sale more often than a rug store.

Edit: I mean and EB Games store (updated for the younger crowd)

  • +15

To all the people complaining about price I hear you but olive oil price is currently high due to supply shortages. Even in bulk 100L+ for a small business I work for we are not seeing prices less than ~$13/L let alone bottled labelled etc… if you want EVOO this ain't a bad price. Not sure of quality tho personally.

Edit: EVOO = Extra Virgin Olive Oil

  • +2

3 or 4 L was about $15 a few years back maybe 4-5 years ago

  • +2

you cook and pan fry with this?

    • -3

Not really, Extra Virgin Olive Oil ≠ Olive Oil

    • +3

      Yep. Nothing than EVOO

  • +7

The Aldi Olive Oil is $17.50 every day and scores much higher in Choice reviews.

I just bought a litre before I read about this sale so I am trying to justify it

    https://www.choice.com.au/food-and-drink/nuts-and-oils/oils/…

    • Is it the Spanish or Australian oil?

    • -3

      The old Aldi sponsored reviews

    • This. I’d only buy Cobram when it’s half price. Otherwise it’s Aldi. I can’t see the point of buying this Red Island one, even at 1/2 price, or any other brands for that matter.

      • Isn't Cobram/Red Island just as good as the Aldi one?
And sounds like its $2.5 cheaper with this sale?

    • I tried the Aldi Olive Tree brand oil a number of months back and haven't bought Red Island/Cobrahm since. I actually prefer it to the others and it's one less thing I have to wait to go on special before I can buy it

  • +2

I straight up don't buy olive oil any more. Far too exy. I have ten bucks of fly bys and never go to coles so might drop in and buy one of these.

    • +1

      $15 for ~8000 calories.

Cheaper than most carbs / a fast food meal which only has 800-1200.

If you're struggling its actually cheaper to add oils to bulk out food [yes, there are cheaper oils to do this with].

      • +1

        Please dude.

  • on my last coco box from last deal

  • Have noticed Olive Oil price gone uuup. Is there a shortage on Olives or something else?

    • +1

Global shortage for the last 2 years.

Looks like price might come back down soon

      https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/markets/olive-oil-prices-to-…

      • Good to know. Hope the 1/2 price sales of Cobram will come more often then.

      • doubt it since they like to jack up price quick but when its about reducing price they probably only reduce quarter or even half of that quarter which was initially increased.

    • It has gone up by at least 2.5 times. This used to cost around $25-30 if i remember and would usually go on half price $12.5-$15 now its $60.
