Steam Deck 256GB LCD $649, 512GB OLED $899, 1TB OLED $1,049 Delivered @ Steam

6600

Technically now an OzRRP post, but Valve officially announced the Australian release of the Steam Deck, shipping next month. Cheaper than current sellers so potentially some deals there if they drop their prices to sell their stock.

Mod Update: Steam Deck will be available for sale (and will begin shipping) in Australia on November 19th, at 10am AEDT.

      • Same (White LE version)

      • My payment processed at 9:02 on launch day and it still hasn't moved to being packaged. OLED 512gb

    • Mine is still "Processed Payment". Steam support replied this:

Upon checking, the package has sent to shipper on 2024-11-19 and the order is now in process normally.
The package would usually be delivered within 6-10 business days once it has been shipped (excluding holidays and weekends), though this is only an estimate and you may need to wait for few more days than that.
Besides, Steam Support cannot guarantee the date of arrival, but we'll do our best to deliver all orders within this estimate but it is not a guaranteed delivery window.

I'm worry that it would be like Canada last year: https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/1825hpa/megathre…

  • Has anyone received a shipping update? I added my OLED to cart when it was 3-5 days but seems to cut over to 6-10 days during checkout. Steam Support not being helpful either… I need to cancel if the shipping is going to take 10+ business days. They don't seem to allow that even though there has been no progress on status since purchase. Anyone have any experience with the support team and hardware orders?

    • Not yet, ordered 10:02am 512gb OLED. I saw some people were saying theres has been marked as shipped on reddit. Seemed to be mostly 1TB OLEDS.

      • Support just came back saying that it was being packaged by the warehouse which usually takes 3 days from initial order. Hopefully that means delivery early to mid next week, assuming the warehouse is in country.

        • +1

Warehouse is supposedly in Orchard Hills, NSW.

    • +3

Processed at 10:03am and received tracking number at 10:34am today

      • Which model did you get?

        • +1

          Standard 1TB

  • My 512gb model is still stuck on processed payment even though I ordered mine at Nov 19, 10.01 am AEDT.

I remember them saying they would ship immediately as well so this is disappointing.

    • Same here.

      Yeah on twitter.

…quick note to our friends Down Under that Steam Deck will be available for sale (and will begin shipping) in Australia on November 19th, at 10am AEDT.

Though in re-reading that now, they said begin shipping, not ship on.

  • Ordered a 1TB, confirmation at 10:07.
It showed 3-5 days on the site when I made the order, but then pushed out to 6-10.

Still sitting on payment processed and got this from support, hopefully doesn't take too long…

*We've checked and confirmed your order is being processed at our warehouse.

You can track the status of your order and see real time update on your order status page.

The package will normally arrive within 6-10 days on launching week after it is shipped(excluding holidays and weekends), though this is only an estimate and you may need to wait for few more days than that.

We do our best to deliver all orders within this estimate but it is not a guaranteed delivery window.*

    • Yeah same response I got. Thought it'd be shipped out quicker but this just reminds me that Amazon is an outlier, not the norm. I'll stop checking the order status page now and just get on with it.

      • Yeah probably same here. Just move on.

Super disappointing to see literally no activity in the week on so many people's orders though. Definitely not a great start for Valve's in house service in Australia.

    • UPDATE: Ticked over to 'Packaged Items' at some point today, so some kind of weekend activity is taking place.

    • UPDATE: Have now been supplied tracking information, no details showing in the Startrack system as of yet. Hopefully tonight….

      • Yeah my tracking hasn’t moved an inch since Friday night lol
Annoying as I ordered literally 30s after launch, must be bottom of the pile

  • Says its shipped with a tracking number white OLED. AusPost says pending though so probably next week.

    • Still nothing on mine minus packed, bought literally 30s after launch too zzz

      • Just received shipping and it’s StarTrack so it’ll be quick

  • +2

Have had mine for a little under an hour, so worth the wait. Super happy with the 1TB oled screen.

    • I noticed you mentioned above it was processed and tracking provided on the same day, and read back through that you also ordered on the 19th.

I placed mine a minute after the release (also 1TB Black) and its still only saying 'processed payment'.

Has anyone here that ordered the 1TB Black on day 1 got an update yet? Otherwise, thats pretty poor customer service to not furfill orders from oldest to newest.

      • +2

Yeah, it seems like it’s a total all sorts of fulfilment. Feel for the people that ordered immediately and have no progress yet.

      • UPDATE: Mine updated late yesterday (22/11) to 'Packaged' which is promising. Hopefully see it by the end of next week.

  • Ordered a minute after orders opened. 512GB OLED. Packaged!

  • +1

Mine is still - processed payment.

    ordered 10.20am on release day.

    512gb oled.

Just saying since everyone else is 🤷‍♂️

    • Thanks, yeah no new info on my white deck other than when they will begin shipping. I don't really mind, but I would like it sometime next week…

      • +1

Yeah agreed. I’ve waited sooo long for the release, another week won’t hurt….but I still check 17 times a day for updates! 😂

(Edit) - just saw they changed it to - packaged items

        • +1

          Mine now says "shipped".

I am guessing it will come before Wednesday next week for me… Not sure of course…

I should have my screen protector before that ready to go :)

  • +2

I got charged $925.97 for 512gb. Initially the transaction in my bank account was $899 but after clearing it increased. Anyone else experiencing this?

    • +1

Not for me. My 512gb cleared at $899.

    • +1

      Yeah, same for me. ANZ

    • +2

CBA here and noticed similar. They're coming through as a US merchant so I had an additional international transaction fee come through later that day.

      • +1

Oh, I have a feeling that I got scammed about Steam Deck is actually coming to Australia if that's international transaction fee (+ the delay in their delivery time vs what was advertised)

        • +1

Scuttlebutt is they're shipping out of NSW and shipping times people are reporting are lining up with that. It's just the merchant account is in the US. I presume it's the same when you purchase a Steam game but the price is much lower so it's not as noticeable vs a ~$1000 purchase.

    • +1

      Charged correctly via Paypal.

      • Yep same

        • Correctly by PayPal but now it is shipping, I can see the amount reflected in my Westpac credit account as $925. WTF

  • I should've gone with earlier ebay deals then, it was $909 512gb and $976 1tb from Kogan i think (forgot exact price). Cheaper and faster delivery. I purchased from steam Tuesday 12pm and still no update on estimated delivery date.

    • I’d say they’re processing orders in order of receiving them. Mine only just got packed I’m guessing will ship Monday or Tuesday latest. Falls in the 6-10 days estimate.

      • It really doesn’t seem like they’re processing by order number. Plenty of people here reporting earlier progress on the 1tb orders with later order times, so it seems they’re batching up order types rather than by order number.

I ordered 2 minutes after launch and only just got status updates to “packed” on Saturday where as there’s people who ordered later than me with packed and some received too.

        • Mine is scheduled for deliver tomorrow as per Auspost App. Ordered white LE

          • @Fredfloresjr: What time did you order?

            • +1

@Eddie8: 10:16 as per my email confirmation

              • @Fredfloresjr: Cheers. Looks like another example of them processing by order type rather than order number.

I just double checked and my 512gb OLED was confirmed at 10:01am, status updated to "packaged" on fri/sat, and hasn't changed to collected by carrier yet.

    • +1

Ok finally got delivery email last night for Wednesday but now Auspost sent notification that its being delivered today!

  • Any one just buying the 256GB one as a just getting started unit? Wondering if I will play it that much on top of the switch? And yes I have a huge steam pile of shame…..

    • Wondering if I will play it that much on top of the switch? And yes I have a huge steam pile of shame…..

I guess you're answering your own question right there :)

Personally, it seems the OLED is worth it over the LCD at this stage.

      • Do share as I am unsure of the answer.

    • +1

I bought the 64gb one a long time ago at about $600 or so from an ebay deal. I played it a lot initially and every so often still.
It is a pretty impressive handheld, does get a bit tiring to hold/look at with looking down on long sessions.

If there’s a bunch of older games you wanted to play or more indie titles, I would get one to try it out. Personally.

      • Good advice. May also look at the on special ROG Ally so I have access to all the PC game libraries that have heaps of unplayed games on them.

        • Actually a good point mate, I’d get the ally too actually if you have gamepass too.

No idea what the device itself is like etc

But it seems a bit better, just make sure it’s the extreme variant

    • +2

It should be no issue at all. The OLED tends to have better battery life, but it's not a deal-breaker.

      You can also retrofit a 2230 M.2 2tb to the system, the WD SN740 or SN770 are occasionally cheap at $100/1tb, $200/2tb. Other models are available, just check they're compatible i.e. single-sided 2230 m.2 NVME i.e. https://dancharblog.wordpress.com/2024/01/01/upgrade-sl3-or-…

QLC is fine in the Steam Deck (can be slow to install games, but read/play performance is great) , the option of TLC is a price bump in some cases but its great (see the compatibility sheet for perf stats)

  • Not sure how is everyone going, has been 3 days since got assigned tracker no progress on it so far.

    • Same for me. A tracking number was assigned midday on Monday, by Monday afternoon aus post showing "Label created by sender". The status hasn't changed since then.

512gb OLED ordered 1 minute after launch.

    • Mine finally has some movement as of late last night and will probably arrive tomorrow or Friday, hopefully.

It took 3 biz days to get some movement.

  • Mine was assigned Monday, delivered yesterday.

  • Mine was assigned Monday- I called StarTrack and they advised me that the vendor has not arranged/booked a pick up.

  • My tracking number was assigned on Monday afteroon, arrived at sorting facility on Wed afternoon, out for delivery this morning (Thursday).

    • +1

Happy days bro, unfortunately mine still inside the box lol. Too many errands.

    • Just arrived Thursday afternoon just before 5pm.

  • can anyone recommend some accessories for it, including case etc?

    • +5

      Jsaux screen protector - $14.44
      Jsaux mod case - $39.94
Or if that's not your vibe, there's tomtoc protective case - $33.97

I personally went with dbrand's skin and Killswitch case which is definitely dearer. Russ from Retro Game Corps does a good review and comparison here.

If you're up for it, expand your storage to 2TB with an m.2 2230 storage. If not, get a 1TB microSD card. Or do both, it's your deck.

A bit extra, but I've also purchased Mechanism's kickstand and mounts.

      • +1

How long does delivery take from dbrand?

        • +2

Long. My order from October is still somewhere in Melbourne (I'm in SA). DHL is used, but daipost takes over from local delivery.

    • I got the Jsaux screen protector and case. I was too eager to get them before my deck arrived but I wish i did some research first. The case is overall nice but what i don't like is that it barely fits in steamdeck's case. Jsaux representative in reddit mentioned it is safe to do so as the concern is the joysticks gets pushed down abit and may get damaged but I'm still concerned with the damage.

  • Can anybody be else confirm if this is an international purchase? Don’t want to wear fees with my Cole’s Mastercard.

    • +1

Check comments above, it looks like. I paid via paypal and charged correctly.

    • +2

Someone on Whirlpool commented that they were charged extra after the device shipped, they used PayPal. Looking at my transaction (Up bank), it states that it's an international purchase.

      • +3

Just checked my card, and got charged about $30 in foreign transaction fees. Damn, I feel so mad and disappointed about this, as the price is displayed in AUD. I've been buying steam games using steam gift cards for a while nw and it has been a long time since I had bought any using my bankwest credit card, so I wasn;t aware that it was stil being treated as a foreign purchase. If I had known about it being from overseas, I would have used my Bankwest card instead (which does not charge any foreign transaction fees). It hasn't shipped yet, so if I cancel the order and get a refund, will the foreign transaction fee be reversered on as well? Then I could buy it again on the card that does not charge the fee.

Someone should post this as a warning in the post heading so others are aware and can avoid such fees.

        • Yeah, get in touch with the bank and stand your ground to get a refund.

        • What a pain!

        • Same happened to me, i disputed with my bank and was told they'll refund the entire amount and cancel the order. At that stage i just wanted to get the console as I've been waiting for it for awhile now.

          • +1

@Th4kk: Managed to get the foreign transaction fee refunded after calling the issuing bank (St George).

On another note, I also have the 28 degrees card with the current offer of $200 for $2000 spent in forighn currency. In hindsight, if this purchase was being treated as a foreign transaction, I wonder if it would have counted towards the spend requirements for that offer. Just curious, not that it matters much now anyway, as I am not planning to spend much more in foreign currency or go overseas in the next few months to get that cashback from latitude

  • My white steam deck came,

    However, it is a brick.

Tried to install steam, nothing but error try again for 2 hours, tried 2 different internet connections and turning it on and off again…

Any of you had a similar problem?

Anyone know how to contact them, other than via email?

  • This is it? No deals ?

  • I ordered a 512GB OLED yesterday (28th).
Still processing payment, looking here and Reddit seems I'm in for a hell of a ride until it comes.

Man Amazon prime next day delivery really spoils you when you order elsewhere

  • Since the official dock is not available, can any one please recommend dock station that works?

    • Depends on your set up. Do you need HDMI or DisplayPort? Use keyboard and mouse?

      • Need to connect to TV and use A controller such as XBox one via Bluetooth- I tried using on only Mac docks it charges SD and outputs to TV but the graphics are horrible - I was playing Hogarth legacy.
