Looking forward to the bunnings price matches

Literally all these promos are good for.

    • Me too! Been waiting for something similar, even tho their reviews arent fantastic

  • Do you have a link to the Bunnings equivalent ?

Had the petrol 5 in 1 from Aldi (garden line) for 6 years.
attachments still work but I killed the motor.

    • This one looks similar to Aldi. This includes more powerful battery.

I have this one, it's quite heavy (pole has to be rigid to support the extension pole), so not ideal for whippersnipping. It's really good as a mini chainsaw or hedge trimmer at either length.

        • Yeah reviews indicate it's probably something to miss then :(

          • @eddyah: I paid $279 a couple of years ago when it came out, I'm happy with how it's performed. The current price is a bit steep. Wait & see if they try respond to Aldi's promo.

      • Don't think they would match that, since it's a kit (battery + charger) whereas ALDI is just the skin.

  • The motor end and start/off trigger somehow feels like EGO.

  • Any chance that the previous 16v batteries from Aldi / Ferrex would work with their new 2pv ramge if tool skins?

    • Why would they bother differentiating voltages if you could just slap any old battery in it?

      So, no.

    • I don't remember a 16V Battery from ALDI/Xfinity/Ferrex, unless it's one of those one off battery for a specific tool.

EDIT: I just did a quick Google, and it appears that there was a 16V Drill, which is a different ecosystem to the standard xfinity.

      • Yeah its the drill I have from 4 years ago. Got 2 16v batteries with it. Still going strong.

        • +1

Unfortunately that's a different ecosystem from the standard Xfinity/Ferrex Tool range, so little chance of expanding unless you can identity the OEM and find a different brand using the same batteries.

Add another $150 for 2 batteries and charger.

It was 179ish last year I was kind of expecting the brushless version but now they just jacked up the price without any improvement. Well done.

    • It was $199 in 2023 & 2022, but usually discounted when they can't sell them in-store.

I remember getting ours for $100 sticker discount as it was the last one left in-store. Unfortunately my local store doesn't do deep markdown anymore.

      • No brainer for $100!

I have the 4 in 1 brushless ozito kit https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/659845

but it is quite heavy, especially with its poorly distributed weight (top heavy). I'm holding out for either a brushless Ferrex or a better-designed Ozito kit.

        • This Ferrex is brushless. See pic

          • @2xOKzC: Yes you are right, they have upgraded. I haven't seen any from the local stores though (probably all gone), otherwise I would grab one.

    • It was $199 last year.

Also, this is has a brushless motor.

      See pic

I paid $199 for this a little over 18 months ago, I managed to get a full refund when the power head died a few months back. The pole saw and hedge trimmer worked well, the edger and string trimmer were barely functional though.

  • Scored the 2nd last one at the local Aldi at 9am. Quite a few people wandering around the store with them in trolleys.

I didn't think many people would be interested in these….

    • Picked up one today, found it to be heavy, hurting my back and also they require 2 batteries and 2 chargers. Batteries don't last that long and taking close to 2 hours to fully charge for 4mh batteries. While one set of batteries runs out of power in about 15 to 20 mins, the other set is only at around 40% and you will probably get another 10 mins out of that. I do not recommend this product for a 600m2 house with front and backyard

      • What attachment(s) were you using? Also what power level were you running the attachments at?

I did find the hedge trimmer a bit unwieldy, mainly because I was trimming above head height. I'm gonna give the included harness a go next time. I think that might help with the weight and balance. Using the line trimmer, I thought it was fairly well balanced, and weight wasn't an issue. I thought the line trimmer attachment was vibrating a bit. I should probably recheck I installed everything correctly.

Battery wise, using 4Ah batteries, I only did a little line trimmer, and wouldn't expect much battery drain from that. I didn't actually time how long I used the hedge trimmer for. Basically I ran from 80% to 38% and the green bin was full, so I had to stop lol. I did most of it at the lowest power level. Seemed to have plenty of grunt for what I was doing, and I didn't really notice much difference between the power levels. A hedge is a hedge lol.

BTW, instead of 2 chargers, there is a dual charger for $50.

G'day, new here and posted a long comment below - just seeing if any further information available somewhere.

          Thanks

    • Couldn't find stock near my place in Western Sydney. The Aldi Stock Finder doesn't show up any information either.

      • Don't bother with this, I suggest you go with the current Makita deal if you own a property. There are videon on you tube showing that the Makita hedge trimmer can be held on just 1 finger

        • Thanks Mortin.
what is the offer for property owner?

          • +1

@abcdguy: I mean you have a good equipment like Makita that will last and less effort to maintain your property whech will result in less maintenance cost and will potentially increase the value of your property by many thousands if not tens of thousands

      • 6 left at Bass Hill ALDI as of this comment.

Picked one up today at Parramatta store. Didn't expect to see it since the stocker checker didn't show any stock. Compared to the Ego 56v line trimmer, it is 680g heavier at 5.18kg vs 4.5kg with both batteries attached. Weight is quite manageable and I didn't use the shoulder strap . It has wider cutting width around 340mm vs 300mm on the Ego. It is much better balanced than the Ego that has the motor on the head. Powerwise I think it beats the Ego. With it on "low" setting, I'vs managed to edge an overgrown buffalo lawn with runners spiralling out of control. I have used 2mm line but I think it can easily take 2.4mm line.

What I didn't like was the, what looked like fishing line in the spool. It was utterly useless. I could not get the autofeed to work consistently at first. What was confusing was the spool had 2 arrows showing the wind direction. Each were pointing in the poiting in the opposite direction! One should RH and arrow andone showed LH and arrow. RH direction was wrong. When I wound it in the LH direction the auto line feed worked flawlessly.

It is quite an impressive kit for such a low price and 3 years warranty.

@zealmax: G'day, my fist pot here, sorry in advance if breaking any conventions etc.

Thanks for the update on the system.
On the Aldi web page there is no mention of the multiple power levels and didn't know it had that until you mention it and I see it on the box in store.
I wonder if it is just as box says a speed reduction or do the lower speed have higher torque for thicker branches, how many RPM each setting is etc etc.
I always thought these pool saw type devises were all full throttle only - one speed.
Would be interesting to know is the speeds all draw power same or the lower speed lasts longer or maybe not if providing more torque.

I had been trying to find the specifications online and a copy of the instruction manual but was not able to locate a thing. I don't thing there is a website for support or anything like that for Ferrex and without seeing the manual there is little info about the product to see how it compares

For instance on the box it says:
*powerful brushless motor - but not the actual watts or kilowatts and max RPM
*254mm pole saw capacity - but not the chain speed, or if the head is rotatable, or if the oil feed has a screw to adjust rate
*what chain is used - is is full or skip tooth, low profile, semi or chamfer chisel.
*395mm hedge capacity - but not the diameter it can cut through.
*do the attachments have grease nipples for greasing the gears or a removable screw etc.
            *square or splined shaft?

I had found prior this sale at aldi a fuxtec/redback 40v product that seemed quite good in specification it is EK700 -
            https://www.manua.ls/fuxtec/fx-ek700/manual
            https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0555/3923/7169/files/EK700…

It does have rotatable pole saw head, full oregon bar and chain - chamfer chisel (91PX040X), grease nipples, oil adjust screw etc. and a longer hedge trimmer attachment.
it is a 9 spline shaft
            510mm hedge
            12m/s chainspeed
            1000w motor - 8000RPM

Seems a more powerful or commercial system? Full price the EK700 is $560 with no battery or charger though.

I have been able to find one for sale online with a battery, charger and a same system 40v steel deck 46cm steel deck brushless lawnmower included for $420 - The Aldi system would be $380 with battery and charger, but would come with warranty and return if damage or break etc.

If the Aldi one is similar spec or even bit lower might be safer option? Do you have a manual or specs etc?

            • @jonesy2024: Not sure on the RPM or torque. I don't think you get more torque at lower speeds. Higher speed setting more torque. More power to the motor. Not like cars on low gear. I have the Aldi 2 x 20V lawn mower kit too. Had it since 2021. Works well and is very light. Aldi has 60 day return policy so if you can find one in stock then give it a try.

              • @zealmax: Cheers. Any idea where the manual is online for this tool kit? I can only find the previous non brushless instructions.

                • @jonesy2024: Not sure. I don't think the manual states any wattage or rpm.

                  • @zealmax: might have some other useful inform though, like the other features i am wondering about though. The oil adjust, grease ports, angle adjust etc.
Got a copy of it t all?

            • @jonesy2024: Something to think about: Aldi has a 60 day Special Buy return policy. So pick it up, and if it doesn't meet your needs, then just return it.

              Few notes:

              • Re power levels, I've mostly played with the hedge cutter. Lower levels are definitely not more torque than higher levels. When upping the power level, the brush cutter does oscillate faster, but it didn't seem significantly faster. I guess I was judging that by ear, so it's not a scientific measurement. Anyways, I did think there was some increase in torque as well. It's hard to tell because the brush is not a constant load. Sometimes easy, sometimes not…

              • FWIW, just had a look and the thickest branch of the hedge I saw it had cut through was 15mm. Haven't run across anything thicker yet, though quite a few of the thicker branches are pretty green. And, of course, it's mainly much smaller branches. If they were all thick, I'd probably be on the chainsaw.

              • The manual is pretty useless. I kid you not, the first 21 pages are basically safety and warnings, then 6 pages on assembly and how to put on the attachments, 1 page on turning it on and off, 3 pages on cleaning, maintenance and storage, 1 page FAQ, 1 page specs (see here), and 1 page warranty.

              • Manual has no mention of grease ports etc. I assumed they are one of the nuts on the attachments. Only mention about oil for the chain saw is to put it in the oil tank and put the cap on the tank. Haven't played with it yet.

Just to add on to zealmax, I got the Ferrex 2x20V lawnmower last year. It was a revelation. Even though the deck is pretty narrow, it only weighs about 10kg vs the old 50kg petrol one. The manoeuvrability makes up for it easily. Took about 20-30 minutes off a 75 minute mow. Though some of that me be not having to pfaff around with petrol and oil anymore haha..

          • @zealmax:

could not get the autofeed to work consistently…. Each were pointing in the poiting in the opposite direction!

Oh, that's a clue I needed! I noticed that the line was extremely short - only about 1/2 the way to the end of the guard and figured something was dodgy about the autofeed.

I think I'm about to go do some winding. I wonder if the manual is correct?

            • +1

@2xOKzC: Yeah try winding the line in the opposite direction. Auto feed works very well now. Just tap the ground with the head while spinning and more line is fed through.

              • @zealmax: Quick test and it's working!

Seems like I had a couple of issues. It was badly overlapped at several points in the factory winding, so the line couldn't feed if it wanted to.

Then, I tried following the manual which shows hooking the line and winding it in the same direction (which would make it so much easier to wind!). And I knew from zealmax that the LH arrow was the way…

                Cheers!
