Xfinity Plus 2 x 20V 5-in-1 Garden Tool Skin $199 @ ALDI Special Buys

140

This caught my attention as the motor (the weight) is at the side of where your hand/body is. So the cutting end should be light-weight, making the tool easier to use, especially as a pole chainsaw.

Interchangeable, 5-in-1 Garden Tool Skin with 230mm brush cutter, 330mm line trimmer, 254mm pole saw, 380mm hedge trimmer and 225mm edger attachments.

These exist in better quality for about the same price, so I'll call this a non deal.

    • +7

      Examples please?

      • -1

2 seconds of searching reveals an Ozito brand, which satisfies the better quality from Bunnings, a better store with better return policies etc. and a better offer as you have all the solutions Aldi are offering from more dedicated equipment for the same price before any discounts, power pass, specials etc.

        https://www.bunnings.com.au/ozito-pxc-18v-cordless-blower-gr…

That's just one example. $200 for these kits is normal.

        • +2

This is….literally not the same thing. Not even close.

I'm actually invested in the ozito line and last time Aldi ran this ozito came out with a similar kit, except it had less attachment from memory, I remember specifically because I was interested in the edger attachment but the ozito didn't have in that kit.

I asked you because I genuinely would buy the ozito equivalent but you've left me disappointed

          • +1

@fufufu: A hedge trimmer and line trimmer, that's all you're getting.

            • +1

@[Deactivated]: You might has well have linked to an axe and some secateurs - you linked a totally different product. Try cutting a high branch or high hedge with the product you linked without fetching a ladder.

              • @suburbanmale: I agree, the one point of difference is the hedge clipper reaches higher. I made a mistake there, with my (reliable) option I'd have to reach higher or use steps.

I'd still rather use steps and buy a product from a company that is easy to find, park at, walk through, help with, accept returns and discount (with a power pass) the product from the brand proven to be more reliable than the generic here now gone tomorrow stuff from Aldi.

I can even buy it online and have it placed in the boot of my vehicle without having to walk around inside that mess Aldi call a store.

I'm not a Bunnings fan either, I think the face recognition nonsense they're up to is a farce and will never forget what they did during the early stages of the illegal and awful lockdowns.

        • -2

I agree, don't listen to Aldi fanboys.

Trust Bunnings products like Ryobi and Ozito, with great warranty support. Ozito has 3 years battery warranty unlike Aldi 1 year crap warranty.

        • This is the real comparable Ozito product. About the same price now that they reduced it to compete with Aldi.

          • +1

@donga100: Actually seems better, 5 year warranty etc.

    • Some option would be great!

    • Echoing the above requests for a link to anything better at this price

  • Does it have 2 batteries and a charger or come with just 1 battery and a charger or none at all?

    • +1

      Tool Skin
They selling the 20V Battery 4.0Ah for $50 each.

  • +1

I have this from last year and it has awesome handling compared to the ozito. It does the edging on my 850m block on a single charge and took down a 4m tree on 2 charges.

  • +1

    Where are you Bunnings?
    Ozito response?

  • Looking to trim some trees… Any idea what the reach is?

  • Anybody tried this as a line trimmer? Just need it for that purpose

    • +1

If you’re only ever going to use it for that, you can definitely get better quality for a smilies price/in the $200s. If I was getting it for the multi tool though that’s a great price. Most heads for bigger brands are $200+ alone

      • I'm just in the Aldi ecosystem and figured all I have left is a line trimmer but thanks for that! Will wait for a deal on Ozito

    • +1

You can buy a Stihl line trimmer for $200.
      Much better than this toy.

  • In guessing this is the same kit as the one they ran last time? Would love to hear opinions on it, specifically interested in the hedge trimmer and edger attachments.

  • +1

I bought previous ALDI kit and then returned it, too heavy for me to operate.

    • +1

You want the weight, especially for the pole saw pruner, as you can't put any downforce on the cut at full leverage. So the weight of the head does all the work..
I used to think the same, but after 12 months of giving one of these a good floggin' and removed a few massive trees around double power line height, your body just adapts. I'm now able to reach out with one arm.
The battery life on these things are amazing.
But the old one had plastic hinges…on a chainsaw..dumb!

  • It looks like Ozito isn't bringing out their equivalent.

Can anyone who has previously bought comment on the various functions? Is this thing any good?

And importantly, is the bump head easily replaceable?

    • +2

Ozito brought up their competition on the 28th last year, we still got 2 days: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/659845

not sure about Aldi bump head, it should be compatible with their ferrex line trimmer refill they selling few weeks ago, still saw heaps of those left last weekend.

      • Thanks mate, missed the date!

        • The ozito one has the weight at the front where the motor is, will be very heavy according to comments on last year thread.

the Aldi one has at the back so should be lighter?

          • @[Deactivated]: Ozito's trimmer's are very nose heavy and they don't have an equivalent rear motor equivalent. Thus it makes the Aldi unit unique and more favorable if you are used to the weight balance of petrol line trimmers (less strain on the wrist).

            • @dreamscene: that means I might end up with ryobi, ozito and Aldi batteries and chargers lol…

each has its own plus and minuses.

damn it why can't they just copycat each other and make their own uniqueness.

              • @[Deactivated]: Nothing wrong with that. People go and buy all these 'tool kit's' and never use 50% of the tools, just buy what you need. Having 2 different brands and Eco system's is ok just as long as you USE the tool. Maybe 3 different brands is stretching it but being in 2 Eco systems is ok.

            • @dreamscene: Wouldn't this one be a rear motor equivalent and similar to Aldi with decent balance? (provided they offer it again): https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/679661

              • @somethingguy: No, you can see the Ozito has the heavy bulky motor in the front. Ozito don't have the rear motor trimmers. They cost more to make thus I can understand why Ozito chose to just stick the motor to the front without a drive shaft going to the front from a rear motor design.

              • @somethingguy: this one has front motor on each attachment, reviews said they are heavy and awkward to use.

but its brushless, and easy return/warranty from bunnings.

                • @[Deactivated]: Yea, wish the Aldi was brushless, missed opportunity for them as it's a rear motor design too (good for weight balance). Would have been a killer deal if it was.

  • Review from 2 years ago looks bad: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/574642

    • +1

Which review part looked bad? The link you provided, all I saw were speculators commenting without buying the actual garden tool or using it, just Ozito shillers commenting or speculating.

        • None bought the actual unit they are commenting / speculating on. Someone mentioned that they bought an Aldi camping lantern that failed, is that the one you read and decided to post here as negative feedback on this garden tool unit? Totally different products bud.

          • @dreamscene: I didn't put negative feedback. negative shown as minus red sign.

            • @[Deactivated]: You said, 'Review from 2 years ago looks bad'. That's what I meant by negative feedback. I still don't see the bad reviews you mentioned above. There are no comments from users of the actual garden tool you linked to.

              • @dreamscene: looks like he was referring to the other Aldi tools, but not this particular one.

would you buy this tool seeing as the 'review' of the other tools are bad?

                • @[Deactivated]: Not enough feedback. I know people with Aldi tools that are over 5 years old and they work perfect, I also know people that have Aldi tools and they don't like it. Just have to be careful when linking to places and deducing it's 'bad' from just skim reading a few comments. I personally am waiting for an affordable rear motor brushless trimmer kit or tool skin. This one is not brushless.

                  • @dreamscene: you need to combine both Aldi and Ozito to make a rear motor brushless.

                  • @dreamscene: so will you buy Aldi tomorrow? ozito not doing anything.

                    • @[Deactivated]: Your problem is you skim read or can't read properly. It has been discussed before. 'I personally am waiting for an affordable rear motor brushless trimmer kit or tool skin. This one is not brushless.'

  • I bought the xfinity blower today and its great. Pretty powerful, much better than expected and great build quality. 5 years warranty.
I'm going back to buy the $200 garden tool skins kit.

    • Keep us updated mate. I am staring at the garden tool skin too and the blower kit. Wish it was brushless so still poaching and saving at it. I bought the Aldi Ferrex steel deck mower this week and have massive 8ah batteries that needs to be put to use hehe.

      • I used the 5 in 1 kit this afternoon. Very happy with it. Chain saw attachment is solid, cut through 3 inche branches like butter, as long as you don't pinch the bar when cutting.
Edging attachment works as it should. All of the attachments are solid build quality and i have no complaints.
The $60 blower is definitely my favourite out of what i bought today. Cleans/blows the garage in 30 seconds, dust free. Feel free to ask any questions.

        • Damn, now I am looking at the blower too. How was the line trimmer attachment on the garden tool?

          • @dreamscene: Line trimmer is solid. No complaints. Aldi have the 60 days return period no questions asked. I've returned 2 TVs in 60 days over the years because wasn't happy with them.

        • I've just bought this kit and the blower, but they only had stock of the 2.0ah battery and charger kits, so I picked up two of those (on clearance oddly at $24 each). I'm hoping the small batteries will last at least enough to do the edging and blowing. Will use them this weekend and comment back here for anyone looking to purchase in the future.

And yes … I know the batteries only have a 1 year warranty. Not fussed about that.

          • @karnage1020: How did you find the 5 in 1 tool kit after using it?

            • +1

@dreamscene: Thanks for the reminder! It's actually pretty good for the price. Lightweight and easy to use. Edger works great, whipper snipper isn't as good as my petrol powered one, but certainly does the job. Blower is brilliant having the adjustable power. The 2.0ah batteries don't last long though. Haven't tried the pole saw yet, but have no doubts it will work a treat.

    • -4

You both should read the BATTERY only has 1 YEAR Warranty.

      • +1

Calm. Just breath. You are panicking and repeating yourself in all the Ozito and Aldi deals lol. You are being neg voted over and over again for your rants.

        • +2

          Time machine has issues. Lol

  • +1

I used the brush cutter and it was very effective, battery lasted well. The only issue was it was a bit tricky to correctly fasten the blade to avoid vibration.

Not sure about the rest but the other tools looked reasonable, def worth $200. Not sure how long it will last but right now its getting the job done.

Also make sure you get the 2x battery charger.

I was worried about the weight but it seemed to be well balanced and was happy with it.

    • Thanks for the update mate. Sounds decent enough, main pro with this vs the Ozito is the weight balance as motor is on the back with the Aldi which I prefer, keeps the same balance as a petrol unit. Wish it was brushless though, would have been an instant buy.

  • Just had a look in store and not overly impressed.
Paid $69.99 for the older Gardenline pole saw/ hedger combo. Taken down a couple of trees double powerline height with that. Battery range and power are brilliant. The plastic hinge was its downfall.

The pole on this new one looks a lot flimsier than the old model.

It was a pass for me.

Anyone know the full extenstion length of the pole saw. Looks shorter than the older model as well?

    • Boxes are sealed. No way to check without buying. The good news is people are not rushing out to buy it thus I assume in 2-4 weeks it will reduce to $99 - $149?

  • Just a word of warning…

I bought a previous Aldi combo pole saw/ Hedger with a 5 year warranty.

It was great, and like this I bought a couple of 4.0ah batteries, charger and spare chain.

But the plastic hinges broke (way too thin). Rang the warranty number on the side 2 years in. Got a bit of attitude that I was making a claim on a 2 year old item. The hinges would be 50c at most. Easy to swap. But couldn't get replacement hinges, only the whole chainsaw head.
He checked with Aldi, and they alledgedly weren't prepared to pay for the replacement head. Only offered a full refund.

Not happy, as I have paid for the batteries+charger+chain, which no longer will have a purpose.

Can pay for the head+ postage myself (half the cost what i paid for the lot).

Not sure what to do at this stage.

$139 at Casula Aldi Store. 11 available. Discounted from $199.

Just got last one in my local store for $75, now to try and find some batteries!

    • I just wondering did you get the batteries somewhere? I have the same problem

      • Still looking, haven’t tried too hard yet though
