Bunning matching/beating ALDI upcoming Lawn Mower.

Note: Bunnings Ozito PXC has a:

    • Smaller Cutting Diameter (335mm vs 370mm)
    • Lower Ah Battery (2x 3.0Ah vs 2x 4.0Ah)
    • Brushed motor (ALDI is brushless)

    Also matched by Bunnings:

    • +4

yeah, but they cheaped out 2x 3Ah batteries vs 2x 4Ah batteries + smaller cutting width

      • +5

        It's also smaller - Ozito 335mm vs Ferrex 370mm.

This would have been the equivalent - 2x 4.0Ah Battery and 380mm Cutting Diameter

    • What is the seed and fert spreader normally?

    • When is the Aldi lawnmower coming up on special?

    • +1

Aldi is brushless i don't think the Bunnings one is
Bunnings one comes with twin chargers and the Aldi one only has one

  • +6

Skip these plastic ones unless you have a lawn the size of a bedroom. Ozito Steel Deck mowers are where its at.

    • +16

i quite like the plastic ones. yes, they look and feel like toys but they are quite light and you can lift them up one handed. if you have gravel for your lawn then a steel deck one might be more appropriate

    • +6

I bought a previous plastic decked one (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/806338) and that has been great over the past year. I have 150+sqm to cut, a large portion of which is uneven, and with 2 x 5.2 batteries I get through it no dramas. The plastic deck means it's easy to carry over the gravel from the back garden you the front too.

      • +2

There are 2 steel deck ones, and they have a wider cutting width than the plastic ones also, which saves time. The one that is not push-assist is easy to pickup, its not heavy. I have it and have to pick it up at least 4 times in my backyard every mow. Front and back i probably have close to 300sqm and 2x4ah batteries does it easy. Granted, for a lady or elderly perhaps not so simple and the smaller plastic models be more appropriate if need to pick it up. The steel deck mowers with push-assist however are much heavier.

        • +3

i have ozito brushless steel deck manual push one, love it.

        • i concur the steel ones are light enough and great, the bigger width makes all the difference.

        • Thanks for your comment, I have just moved in to a house and the grass needs a mow but I had an old aldi one with a power cable. My lawn is roughly 190sqm (backyard) and 120sqm (front yard) I have invested in the ozito ecosystem and I was umming and erring on which mower to go with. Looks like it's worth paying more for the steel deck one and the fact that it has a 460mm diameter cutting width is also appealing.

i have the cheapest one of the lot, runs off a single 4ah battery

works perfectly fine and thats on a kikuyu lawn

i think a lot of the complaints are from people who try to cut a completely neglected and overgrowing lawn, grass that even a 2-stroke mower will stall

if you mow consistently even the lowest powered one will be fine

      • yes, this is correct. you're meant to mow regularly so the grass doesn't kill itself from folded over.

    • +1

My six year old can mow with the small 18v Ryobi

    • Thanks mate!

    • nah theyre fine, mine's going strong after a couple of years

    • Good advice for those lucky enough to own/rent properties larger than bedrooms.

    • +1

I went from petrol mower (about 30kg) to plastic 7kg (43cm width), oh man its light, especially when turning, easy to store upright to save space. I dont know how long its going to last being plastic but damn, less effort means I'm more inclined to cut the grass. It was cheap ($232) so I'm willing to abuse it and see how long it lasts. Lawn size is about 150m²

    • I have to agree, I have this model and underneath it's just falling to pieces, still works fine, but there will come a time where nothing is left. The bits which break end up bending with the pressure of the grass going into the cavity causing a drag which rips up the lawn.

  • Just replace the batteries before checkout. Everyone else does.

Old mate rocks in there with 9volts taped together and gets a $50 discount on ozito 5.2 batteries so I grabbed a packed of 9 volts and said here give me a $50 discount and they would not.

Maybe I should've put some tape on the counter…

I am so confused by this comment

      • +5

Bunnings have a deal for dual pack 5.2ah Ozito batteries - $50 discount if you give them an 18v Ozito battery. I got it recently - gave them a really old 2ah and a brand new 2.5ah in exchange for $100 off 4 batteries. The chainsaw and leaf blower loves 5.2ah.

        • Nice, the chainsaw is pretty good for what it is, was there really a difference instead of 2 x 4ah batteries? I've felled a 20cm tree/branches with it in reasonable time.

Going to have to try this and the leaf blower.

          • +1

@barg99: Yeah the chainsaw is probably the best tool I have from Ozito. Put a 16" bar on it. I haven't had to fully use up the 5.2ah with the chainsaw yet, so not sure on the difference. The 4ah last a fair while, but last lot of cutting I went through 3 sets and still didn't finish.

            • @redpen: @redpen I have the 2x18v ozito chainsaw, love it, probably the best ozito tool i like. I have had the chance to cut some big jarrah logs with the default bar on and the chainsaw bogs out as it does not have the power to keep cutting through. I know changing the bar wont change the power but it will change the handling. How are you liking having the 16" bar on it?

              • -4

@RelaxandSax: yeah ok you cut big jarrah logs, I got a big log you're mum could cut. Is her name Karri?

              • +1

@RelaxandSax: This is the bar and chain. Can't go wrong for $48. You get that little bit extra to cut through, and in some cases you don't have to lean over as much (saves the back).

            • @redpen: What bar and chain did you put on? Does any bar fit fine?

              • +3

@MerlinKlendatu: This is the bar and chain. I guess as long as you stick to what the original Ozito bar specs was, any length should be fine. But the longer it is, the more power it takes to do certain cuts, and because it was designed with a 14" bar, you'll have to find a bar length "sweet-spot" for the type of cutting you do.

The bar and chain specs I matched to the Ozito one are:

                • Chain Type: Semi Chisel
                • Pitch: 3/8 LOW PROFILE
                • Gauge: .043''

                Does any bar fit fine?

You also have to make sure the mounting holes and oil holes line up to the Ozito. I don't know if it's a universal design between all manufacturers, but the Hurricane I linked matched the Ozito.

      • +2

Maybe you should've put some tape on the counter…

      • Suspect it's a joke referring to this offer. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/867510

        • no joke. Some staff don't care/know what an 18v battery is but the staff member did have to check and maybe that's why. Still not happy. May have to buy a 2.5 for $20 and trade that in then ask to keep it.

          • @barg99: Gave me a chuckle anyway. If you go the 2.5ah route at least you'll get a back up compact fast charger out of it if they don't let you keep the battery.

    • +1

i went in with 2ah makita, they gave me the discount, i asked can i keep the old makita, they said “sure” ….

      • Damnit, I should've asked. Live and learn.

  • +2

I have an electric mower bought it in 2016 and its still going :D

    • +2

Yeah I bought a corded mower in 2010 to use temporarily and it refuses to die even after overheating a few times

      • yeah mine was one of the first gen battery operated ones. They were expensive back then too.

      • Corded mowers are so hard to find these days! I spent ages looking for one. They're almost all battery or petrol. The only corded one I could find was a cheap one at Sydney Tools that died in the middle of the first cut.

        • I can thoroughly recommend the ozito models from Bunnings

          • @choofa: My ozito corded went through hell and still works fine

    • +2

      On one charge?

  • Bought this about a couple of weeks ago for $398. Does anyone know if Bunnings would graciously refund the difference

    • +2

Surely they could accomodate… otherwise I suspect you could just return as not up to expectations… then rebuy

    • +1

I've done it before. It had to be put through as a refund, then purchase in same transaction, but they were happy enough to do it.

    • What's your verdict ? I'm in the fence. My old Victa needs some TLC so tossing up. Don't have a massive yard and never grows too big.

      • +1

i got rid of honda and a sport 4 stroke after i bought th ozito brushless , does 100m2 lawn and 3 house width of nature strip on 4ah batteries ….

        • That's awesome, thank you !!

    • Turns out that the model I purchased is different https://www.bunnings.com.au/ozito-pxc-36v-2-x-18v-brushless-…

  • +4

This mower was $268 this past weekend and as low as $150 black friday last year, might be worth holding out to see if it continues to drop in price.

Bunnings hasn't price matched there Ferrex spotlight in the upcoming sale yet, hopefully can get a price beat.

    • Different one

      • Apologies, you're right, not the black friday one. However, the PXLMK-4182 (same mower with 4Ah batteries) did get down to $150 in May when the last of them were cleared out.

        • +2

No need to apologise but they look kinda similar

          • @Poor Ass: Cheers, appreciate your help to clarify, wisdom to get the best deal is the sole focus.

            • +1

@ohgee: Today at Bunnings someone returned this one because of short battery life…. I ended up buying it for $147

I got 4.0ah at home anyway

  • +5

I’ll wait for the brushless one.

  • +6

Good price, good product. Also rate the Bunnings /ozito warranty. I bought the near identical (but slightly earlier model) of this 3 years ago. Had some problems the last couple of months with the safety switch cutting out intermittently, and found it to be one of the easiest and most painless return processes I've ever experienced.

I was given a full refund on the spot as they didn't have an identical replacement, and then I added $50 and hot the brushless version. They let me keep the 2x 4Ah batteries from the old one too which was a nice bonus. No grilling me, no having to get 3 different managers, no "come back on another day". It was sorted in under 3 mins.

  • I've got one of these and it does a fair bit of work (nature strip, short wide front lawn, area around the pool). It's nice and light to throw around, and I do kind of abuse it, but it keeps on keeping on. Dealt with overgrown grass a few times by mowing at maximum height, then going over it again at the preferred height. It copes just fine, and if it gets overwhelmed you just start it again and have another go. Easy. Reviews on Bunnings site tend to agree with me (that's why I bought this one when I went looking for steel deck). Certainly easier to maintain than my old petrol mower.

Get this one instead. Absolutely mows (hehe) through my lawn and unless I'm using the lowest setting, I usually only use 1 blip on the batteries. I have probably 200sqm of lawn?

  • when does the deal end
