Ozito 5.2Ah 18V Twin Pack $149 / Ryobi 8.0Ah Starter Kit $199 via Trade-in of Any 18V Battery @ Bunnings

1190

For years I've waited for on some kind of deal for the 5.2Ah Ozito batteries and I guess this is the best yet. Standard single price is $119 or $199 for the twin pack.

Trade in any 18v battery and you get $50 instantly off either the Ozito 5.2Ah twin pack or the Ryobi 8.0Ah starter kit. Perfect use case for the pathetic little 1.5Ah batteries they give out in their discounted kits all the time, I traded them one I've had sitting in the cupboard for 3.5 years without issue. The battery from the recent blower deal might be a good option for some (though you'll need a better charger if that's the only one you've got). The batteries I received are stamped 2024/07, not sure what cells are inside but they've got some real weight to them over the 4Ah ones. Don't know anything about Ryobi

The people at Bunnings didn't know what I was talking about so you'll probably need to show them the link

Do these have the same dimensions as 4ah ones and can be used in lawn mowers?

    • 4-5mm taller, 1mm wider at most which is probably just the different rubber profile

      • it's not just different rubber, pretty sure these are using 21700 cells instead of the standard 18650 inside the 4ah. also accounts for the much higher power output of the 5.2ah pack which can do 1250w.

I traded in a 15 year old Makita 2.5ah 18v lxt cell in and got the 5.2ah dual pack. get a battery adapter for your other power tools and you're set.

        • Yeah I vaguely remember reading they'd changed them to the 21700 a year or so ago but couldn't find anything in a quick Google before I posted, they definitely feel weightier than my 3s/4s and the case is a different mould that's ever so slightly wider, and a bit taller, but won't affect fitment of any tools

Good to hear they don't discriminate based on the age of the battery, guess it just needs to say 18v on it

          • @AngryAlfred:

ever so slightly wider, and a bit taller, but won't affect fitment of any tools

Hope you don't jinx it. Aldi messed it up with their 8Ah battery which won't fit into a few of their tools I own.

        • Great idea with the adaptor. Think I might but these batteries now. Have you found any cheap suppliers? Looking for Ozito battery to Milwaukee tools adaptor.

        • @fruitloafer
Any idea how many watts you can get out of the standard Ozito 4ah?

    • Did you get an answer to this? Did you try them?

  • +9

Think i will stick to the 4ah that can be had at times in a 3 or 4 pack around $35 each battery. Better value IMO.

    • +6

Horses for courses. Drilling, sanding etc yeah the 4ah are perfect. These are more suited to sustained high power draw tools, blowers/vacuums etc. I find my circular saw can bog down quite a bit on the standard batteries, these days they even have a 36v table saw. Agree the 4ah packs are better value and you can always swap them around, but some tools are a case by case basis

    • My chainsaw came with 2x 3ah batteries, this is a great way to upgrade to a better battery. The skin is well balanced so a heavier power supply won’t be unwieldy. I’ll be able to cut wood all afternoon long now. Thanks OP!

  • +4

5.2ah must be heavy because the 4ah one is pretty heavy as it is

      I was curious earlier. 677g vs 896g

Anyone going to try taping 12 AA Varta batteries together?

    • +1

wondering what i'll surrender in … don't really want to give up one of the little units as they're handy for the lawn clippers etc.
Might have to dig up an old XU1 pack.

      • Maybe a dead 18v battery?

    • +3

I suggest 1 AA battery, use a permanent marker to change the 5 to an 8 with the decimal point liquid papered out…

  • Will this fit the ozito batteries?
In the images there are only 2 metal bits to connect to the ozito battery.

    • Yes, I have one for my Ryobi line trimmer.

And it only needs two terminals (+ & -) at the tool end. It's the charger that uses multiple terminals, to balance each cell inside independently

    • Bought one like that, tested it and it works fine, but haven't used it much. Good to have it as stand by.

    • I just bought one off a gumtree seller who 3d prints them to order, a bit more sophisticated in the design. Can't PM you the link - look up 'Ozito 18v Power Xchange to Ryobi One Plus Battery Adapter'

  • +1

How do these compare to the ALDI ferrex 8ah batteries for performance?

  • But my batteries are 14.4v

  • Couldn't help myself.
Had an old ozito 18v battery (not from PXC range) went to Mile End Bunnings and had a very helpful (NOT) staff member they couldn't find the promotion.

Used my phone and got there in the end.

    • It's literally on the splash banner of their main page lol.
Someone didn't get the brief when they clocked on

  • The 4x 4ah for $129 deal is way better than this

    • Where's that? Or old deal?

      • Old deal a few months ago. They had 3 x 4Ah for $99 and then introduced the 4 x 4Ah $129 promo packs.

These deals on the batteries along with the introduction of the 6Ah, 8Ah and new sealed batteries makes me wonder if new versions of the 4 and 5Ah batteries are on the way.

    $8 battery of ebay.
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/126055202240

    $50 discount?

    • when you select any of the options the price goes up significantly + these things are rarely stated capacity.

      • -3

I mean buy the cheap eBay battery.

And use that for the trade in at hammerbarn.

        • +1

He means that there is no cheap battery. $8 is for the EU/US plug adapter only (it's not even AU).

  • They let me keep my 1.5a Makita battery , just asked did I bring it with me and showed them ….

  • +1

When they say "any" 18v battery, I wonder if 12x1.5v AA batteries sticky taped together would qualify.

  • I have a dead Ryobi 4ah (left it out in the rain overnight) but do I really want to spend $200 just to replace 1 😅 could be useful for longer trimmer / blower times but I honestly get by already and just motivates me to be more efficient. 🤷‍♂️

  • Does this improve performance in the lawn mowers vs the 4ah ones?

    • Somewhat. Should keep a higher voltage for longer

    • I have an 18v ryobi mower and have ozito 4ah with adapter and 8ah ferrex with adapter, its a bit better with the 8ah but not earth shattering and run time is obviously longer. From memory there is no real boost in outright full charge power, but as the battery gets down to 50 or 25% there is less stalling. I.e there is less battery sag under load where voltage drops and so does power

I havent used it since the beginning of winter so I might have to break it out and double check. But one thing is for sure first cut after winter which was well overdue I went straight for the petrol mower

On something like my mini 10'' chainsaw though power is pretty much consistent until the last 20% but the way the battery adapter is used it has cracked part of the tab and is basically busted. This chainsaw mounts the battery sideways so one tab has all the load

  • I only just bought the twin 4ah kit with charger for $99 the other day, but might take it back and take advantage of this deal. I use ryobi and have an adaptor on the way. Ryobi batteries are so pricey! Only thing is there's no charger in the 5.2ah twin pack. Anyone got one they don't need and want to send me?

  • I didn't think I was going to bite on this deal but remembered I had a dead Bosch 18v and figured to get some value out if. Cheers!

  • +1

I don't know about the Ryobi one, but Ozito 2 x 4.0Ah Batteries And Multi Charger Pack for $99.98 is a much better deal.

  • Traded an old Supercheap Auto battery for a carpet cleaner I converted to Ozito battery for Ozito PXC 18V 5.2AH Battery Twin Pack PXTBP-252
Been waiting to get some of these for a while.

    • Can you share how you converted it? Because I also converted an old SCA carpet cleaner to an Ozito battery haha, but I harvested the back half of the old battery case and the battery board and 3D printed an Ozito side to match then wired onto the old board. Couldn't figure out how to match the design for the random Chinese battery they were using and couldn't find an STL anywhere

      • I just buy one of these and gut them for the battery attachment side + terminals, solder on some thick wires and maybe spade connectors depending on what’s being converted.
I’ve 3d printed some too, but this way feels far stronger.

        • Interesting, I forgot those existed. Do you attach it to the vac at all or just connect the wires via spade terminals and leave it loose?

This is what I came up with, the first one lasted about a year and then I reinforced the bottom of this one when I reprinted it. I've never been a fan of how far off the spot vac it hangs a heavy battery though.

Took the Ozito side design from this post by gyrex

          • @AngryAlfred: Mine ends up looking a lot like your solution. I screwed mine into the chassis. I will try and get a pic when I am home from work.
I've also done the same for a Ryobi soldering iron and hasnt skipped a beat.

            • @AmperSand: Ah ok, yes please post if you get a chance I'm very curious, I can see mine is already splitting again at one corner so need a better solution.

I've never made an adaptor for the Ryobi but have made one for some of the random ALDI tools that come out and yeah, never had an issue with that. Issue with the spot cleaner adapter is just the weight of the battery I think

I successfully claimed this just now and it was a real hassle but did work.

The tool shop person had no idea about the promo. Even though the display was at the checkout and there’s literally a flyer for it attached.

Ended up having to talk to 4 different people, one of which claimed it wasn’t “any” 18V battery but needed to be a branded Bunnings battery (it didn’t).

You should have the link to show them though..

You may be asked “where did you find this offer?” and the correct answer is “on the redemptions page of the Bunnings website”

It’s a pretty good deal but you can also pickup a twin pack (2 x 8Ah batteries, no charger) for $349 ($175 ea) which has no deal/promo..

    • +2

I had much the same expirience. Toolshop person had no idea, was a bunch of stock right behind her. Showed her the website, she had to get 2 other people to come over and to top it off she put it through and nearly forgot to take the trade battery.
You'd think they'd brief their staff on promos and deals like this.

      • +1

I had no issue claiming the redemption, but did experience a similar sentiment. In line at the tool shop checkout i thought to speak to the available employee to trade my dead Bosch battery and get the redemption out of the way, but he had no idea. Thankfully the more experienced guy at the check out finished with the customer in front and explained the redemption to the other guy and even showed him his to process the order.

      • Many of the staff aren't the sharpest tool in the shed.

  • Thank you, I availed this offer today.

  • I have 2x2.5ah battery's. Does anyone know if i can trade in both for $50 each and get the 5.2ah for $100?

    • +1

Nope. It's one battery for $50 per item bought.

      But an Eligible Claimant can
redeem a $100 discount (but no more) for the purchase of two (2) Qualifying Products if two (2) 18v
      batteries have been traded in.

  • took my 2.5ah old battery and got it replaced pretty quickly, almost no questions asked at Bunnings Leppington

  • Went to bunnings today for something and thought I'd buy the $20 2.5ah then give them that and get $50 the 5.2ah. Old codger at the desk didn't like that at all. If I buy the bunnings brand battery (its mine now) then trade that in, what's wrong with that? I sez.

He got upset and flat out refused. Apparently that's not how the system works because I'd get a charger with it and it has to be an old battery…

Didn't hassle him too much :)

    • Was there a Ryobi 2.5Ah battery for $20?! where..

(Heck, i’d buy a few of those if they were available..)

  • +1

I took advantage of this yesterday. Traded an old PXC 1.5Ah battery. Easy transaction, it was all in their system.

    • +1

Just traded in my 8yr old Home Handyman 1.3Ah battery … deal ends tomorrow peeps
