  • Is it brushless mower better?

    • +2

      Yes.

    • +3

Huge problem with Aldi (Ferrex) products is there is usually no after-sale service or parts available.

(Try getting a blade or a battery for one somewhere - nobody sells them)

Once the Aldi mowers are all sold you never see them again.

At least with Bunnings and Ozito you do have after sale service and parts available.
And these ozito 2 x 18v (36v) mowers are very good indeed

Ive had one for years and still going strong.
      The batteries last for ages

Check out the reviews for the Ozito - they are very good
However reviews (Productreview) for the Ferrex mower suggest what I have said.
The batteries fail very quickly and you cant buy replacements anywhere!

      Battery performance comparison:
      Charge time: Ozito 1hr 20min / Ferrex 3 hrs
      Run time: Ozito approx 1hr 20mins / Ferrex 40mins
Number of chargers supplied: Ozito 2 / Ferrex 1

      I rest my case!

PS Im fairly sure the Ozito is brushless as well

      • This is why I bought Ozito over Ferrex, being able to buy parts all year round is important

      • +1

the ozito mower has a brushed motor and comes with 3.0Ah batteries. the aldi mower has a brushless motor and 4.0Ah batteries. given the same price, the aldi one seems like a better choice to me.

i'm still using aldi batteries from 2018

      • +2

PS I'm fairly sure the Ozito is brushless as well

The listed Ozito is not brushless. The more expensive model PXBTMS-3638 Kit is bushless, comes with 4aH batteries, but is $399

    • +7

I own the Ferrex and have used the Ozito. In short - they are both good options for a small to medium sized lawn and both great value at $250. I’d be happy with either, but would pick the Ferrex again if given the choice.

      A few thoughts:

      • Power: no discernible difference, both cut well even if the grass is a bit too long or wet. Both chew up sticks with ease

      • Noise: I haven’t used them side by side, but the Ferrex seems quieter. Neither are offensively loud

      • Build quality: Ozito seems to be a sturdier build. Thicker handles look and feel higher quality. Ozito has telescopic handles, Ferrex is fiddly to adjust length.

      • Ease of use: Both dead simple. Ferrex feels a bit easier to manoeuvre and the padded handles are more comfortable. I have big hands, but the thicker, metal handles of the Ozito cause greater forearm fatigue

      • Storage: Both fold “flat”. Ozito is easy to hang parallel to the wall. Ferrex wont hang without additional support

      • Batteries: Both kits are more than enough for a 100m2 lawn. I love the Ferrex 4ah batteries with denser 21700 cells - more compact than the Ozitos I’ve used. Ferrex shows charge remaining as 0-100%, Ozito is just 3 LEDs to signify 33%, 66% or 100%.
*I bought the Ferrex dual battery fast charger as charging batteries one at a time would be annoying.

Others have touched on availability of parts - take that into consideration if important to you.

  • Wondering if those pruning shears would do palm fonds? Blades don't look particularly long

    • What type of palm tree?

      • Probably date given the quality of questions around here.

        • When it gets big you'll want the pole pruning saw.

    • +2

Reciprocating saw with a 200mm+ blade might be a better bet?

Pruning shears do look useful though for my wife.

      • +5

I wouldn’t admit that beforehand, as your wife may be tipped off :)

        • +4

Haha, she's the gardener out of us. I showed her earlier today and her answer was I'll just use the reciprocating saw(s) or the chainsaw(s) - got to love that. She also has BBT 15 HP mulcher that will take anything up to 100mm - ish. Max is apparently "80x120mm" from the specs.

I'm the Engineer and fix things she breaks…

          • +3

@freddofrog42: Get out, help and stop using the Engineer excuse.

            • @ph81:

              stop using the Engineer excuse

              Hey, don't judge. It works!

      • Not for smaller branches, it'll vibrate your hand off, shears for smaller stuff, sawsall/reciprocating saw for bigger stuff

  • Bunnings mower batteries are 2 x 3.0Ah vs Aldi 2 x 4.0Ah.

  • +16

Bunnings haven't matched like for like with the mower.

The Aldi one is 2 x 20V brushless, the Ozito model (PXLMK-3182) is 2 x 18V but not brushless.

    Another differences - Aldi 2 x 4aH batterries/Ozito 2 x 3aH

The brushless Ozito equivalent is $399 (PXBTMS-3638 Kit)

    • +3

      Added a note the description.

    • Bunning does not match like for like for the mower.
Bunnings price matched the Aldi mower with this Ozito model during black friday sale last year too.

    • Is the Aldi one equivalent to a 40v mower?

      • It is.

        • They are both equivalent to an 18v mower.

          • “20v”: This is just marketing speak. Both batteries are 18v but have a peak voltage of 20v. Ferrex uses the latter in their marketing.

          • “2x”: My understanding is the batteries are in a parallel circuit, which allows for higher amperage not voltage. Increasing either enables increased power output (in watts) though, as volts x amps = watts. *Happy to be corrected

          • +4

@homebrandjesus: Dunno who negged, but the batteries are in series.

          • +1

@homebrandjesus: Yep – though they run the batteries in series. Higher voltage, same current. That means they get the same power but don't need to increase wiring thickness. Generally stuff like speed controllers and brushless motors are cheaper to have handle higher voltage (at this level anyway), than higher current.

  • Any know if the lawn mower is any good? Which is better, the Bunnings or Aldi one?

    • +4

      As above ALDI

      • +1

I love Aldi gear (and my sister has this mower). Excellent - except the warranty if something goes wrong. Can't beat the Ozito warranty.

    • I believe this one has the plastic deck which people complain about getting holes in?

  • I can see above, thanks. Does Aldi sell spare batteries?

      • Can you only buy the batteries during the sale?

      • -1

        There's a comment on this thread…
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/894265
Saying the 8ah batteries dont fit in the Aldi mower, can anyone confirm/deny please?

        • +3

          They DO fit.

          • @Pixie13: Would you happen to know if a different brand battery plus an adapter would fit in the Aldi mower? Or do the Ferrex batteries fit really snugly into their slots?

          • @Pixie13: Thank you!

    • +1

Yes, but not 365. If you need a new battery "today" then Ozito is your only option at this price point.

      • +2

        Yes, but not 365.

Correct, available a couple times a year usually around March, May and October.

        • +1

I'd also avoid Ryobi as I've found their batteries to be very poor. I now use DeWalts dating back to 2014 with a $20 adaptor for our Ryobi blowers and trimmers. If nothing else, Ryobi adaptors are cheap and not very bulky…

        • Ok, 3 times a year is not too bad

      • -1

So you could buy the lawn mower and in a year’s time find out that you can’t replace the batteries?

        • +3

ALDI's Xfinity platform has been around for years now, so you would just have to wait until they are on sale again (which is usually every few months).

      • +1

you can only buy discounted bunnings batteries when ALDI actually sell them :) the rest of the year you need to pay a bunnings tax

  • +2

Thanks guys for all the advice.

  • Anyone used the 18V Pruning Secateurs can give me an idea what there like ?

    • +2

Refer to comments in the ALDI Deal Post.

      • Great Thank You :)

    • +2

Look at Youtube for Ozito pruning Shears - very likely the same internals as both will likely be based on Einhell designs.

  • Anyone used the aldi brush cutter/line trimmer?

    • i bought the 2x 18V 5-in-1 garden tool version (trimmer, brushcutter, edger, hedge pruner, pole saw) and it has been really good for around the yard. the hedge pruner is way better than the my previous aldi 18v pole hedger. i'm not sure what the voltage of the trimmer/brushcutter in this post is.

  • +3

That pole pruner hedge trimmer is a cracking deal. For 125 bucks you can get both and a battery kit.

    • I have an Aldi pole pruner/trimmer. It is quite heavy, and I feel tired after using it a while.
Is the ozito equivalent lighter? Or other lighter and better pole trimmer?
      Thank you.

  • +1

@RichardL ozito links for air inflator+pump is the wrong way round mate.

    • +2

      Thanks, fixed.

  • +2

Why do I think I'll cut my fingers off if I buy this

  • +1

Has anyone gone through the warranty process with ALDI before?

  • Can i use high volume inflator for party balloons?

    • +1

Yes. It can also be used to blow bubbles in the kids chocolate milks

      • I thought we used Sodastreams for that

        • Yum. Carbonated milk

  • -1

How much does a 'Ozito PXC Ozito PXC 18V Cordless Pole Pruner - Skin Only'' normally cost anyone know?

  • Great post. Thanks OP.
Could anyone confirm whether I can use the ozito batteries on the Aldi mower with an adaptor or something? TIA guys :)

    • +1

Yeah I have a few ALDI tools running on Ozito batteries with a 3D printed adapter, but the mower comes with 2 batteries already

      • Would you happen to know if the mower will fit Ozito batteries or Makita batteries with a 3D printed adapter in the slots?

        • +1

I'm not familiar with this exact mower but the adapter only adds about 10mm height to the battery and the Ozito battery has a smaller footprint than the Ferrex so I don't see why it wouldn't fit, unless they've got really small margins in the compartment.

But if that other post says the 8ah fits and that's a chunky boy, then your standard Ozito's should have no problem. I've never adapted Makita's but from memory they're quite small too so shouldn't have an issue

      • Thanks mate :)

  • Not the products for me this time, but thanks Aldi!

(Now bring out a competing tripod work light please :P lol)

  • Does that Ferrex Pole/Pruner take any size battery? What does a 20V Battery 4.0Ah or Dual Charger actually mean in terms of what you get? Do you choose from a battery or a dual charger?

Also, since everyone keeps mentioning Ozito, I'm assume these Ferrex products use Ozitio batteries?

    • +2

Ferrex is Aldi, Ozito is Bunnings. They are different systems so won't work without a 3rd party adapter. You normally use Ferrex batteries with a Ferrex skin.

The Dual Charger refers to the capability of the charger to charge 2 batteries at the same time. The 4Ah battery refers to the capacity of the battery (ie. You will get less run time with a 2Ah battery).

  • +1

My parents have the hand pruners - game changer for woody branches / hedges etc upto about double finger width.

I used for hours cutting back a super tough woody hedge (never would have done it with conventional pruners) then chomping to get it in the bin all on a 2ah battery. They work brilliantly and super clean where my ozito 36v chainsaw or recip would have been bouncing and ripping all over small stuff.

Fyi that's normal price on the high pressure pump (59) and blower (79) - I have both and work great. Pump did get price matched last time, but not now.

  • +1

Upvoted for the formatting of your post!

  • +4

I just bought the Ozito shears and I can't believe I waited so long. I have arthritis in my hands which made normal pruning an exercise in pain, these power shears have taken most of that away.
I've had people comment about 'lazy' and 'waste of money' but stuff that, they make it so I can enjoy a bit more gardening - I'm very happy with my purchase.

  • +4

Remember you can get adapters for other 18 volt systems like makita (And others) so you can use your existing batteries with the cheaper Ozito (Einhell) tools from bunnings.

Great when you see the ozito (Einhell) skins cheap at Bunnings.

Einhell is the company that makes Ozito and when searching for things like the adapter it can help if you also search for Einhell as well as ozito as Einhell is the brand they are sold outside Australia.

  • +4

    High pressure inflator now matched!

  • Pretty sure $35 is the standard price for that high volume inflator so it's not matched, I remember paying $29 for it when it first launched and honestly it's not great, haven't used ALDI to compare

The high volume one I have both ALDI/Ozito versions for… reasons. The ALDI one runs at 14l/min and Ozito only 12l/min. Doesn't look like much but 16% faster adds up, especially when they're advertised as 5 minutes working 15 minutes break or something close to that

    • Correct - Ozito high volume inflator has been $35 since 2021 (according to Price Hipster) whereas the high pressure inflator is normally $60 and was $39 in Feb 2024, so $4 cheaper this time.

      • Yeah, the high pressure is what I meant in the second part. Both good value for $39/$35 IMO but worth pointing out the slightly different specs. Guess if it really mattered though you'd buy a 12v compressor anyway

  • +1

Bunnings must be running a hefty profit on a lot of common items, given the way they only match Aldis profits only when similar pops up in —Aldi special buys catalogue. Which is generally only once a year. And that stock generally lasts about 3 weeks, max.
So 48-49 weeks of bonus extra % profits on those goods.

    • Correct.

    • +1

And then you have to consider that the supermarket enquiries told us that Aldi makes a hefty profit off their Special Buys items, meaning Bunnings is likely still raking in cash some even when they match Aldi.

  • +2

bunnings air pump dropped to $34.98, they beat aldi

  • Has anyone used the Ozito Air Inflator as a blower for computers, keyboards, etc? Is it any good?

    • Yeah tried them both, not very good for the task. Project Farm just did a video on rechargeable air dusters worth checking out https://youtu.be/X_ncYXk1cP4

    • Nah, even their workshop blower isn't enough. I ended up getting rid of my ozito one and buying a dewalt workshop blower, night and day.

  • +2

Pruner looks great and definitely something I want to add to my Ozito wall, but I can't help but feel even $79 is too much. I've been so spoiled by $30 tool deals

  • +7

I picked up the pruning shears this morning and gave them a run on some green fresh branches.
They work really well and slice quickly through branches as per the rating.

But I have doubts about the durability of the blades. The top blade has become quite notched and somewhat folded.
I've only done about 50 cuts in my garden. See the photos below.
I wonder if the blades are lacking an appropriate temper?

    https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/50790/119926/img_2784.…

    • +1

Just sharpen them up with your Ozito grinder… ;)

    • +1

i find a mini chainsaw great for chopping up branches to put in the rubbish bin. it's going to last longer than 50 cuts :)

    • +4

Yeah that does not look like suitable blade material. Another review complained of the same thing, so perhaps some made it through with blades that were not tempered correctly…

I would ask Bunnings to replace the unit, or order replacement blades in.

      • +2

Thanks, I did just that. I showed Bunnings and they swapped over the unit. Hopefully no issues with the replacement fingers crossed

  • Perfect timing. Was looking for a inflator because of leaky tires. Thank you.
