If this is the same as this : https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/869046
    Cheaper at aliexpress

      I'd prefer AMZ to Ali

wasn't there a whole thing about the fake ryzens from aliexpress? pass

  • Anyone know what stock levels are like on the 5700X3D? Not sure if I should jump on this now, or if I would be able to pick one up for the same or less in a month or two.

Looking to start buying parts to build a new rig around Christmas time, and based on my budget, am planning to do a 5700X3D build (re-using my existing video card until I can afford a 7900XT later on, which might seem like overkill except I'm running a 4k ultrawide and a secondary 1440p monitor).

Also, I'm looking to purchase most parts through Amazon, as I'll be receiving a few hundred dollars of Amazon gift cards over the next couple of months.

If all you're re-using from your existing pc is your GPU, I wouldn't suggest to build on AM4. You'd be buying into an 8 year old platform and you can make an AM5 build work for a similar cost.
Your call at the end of the day in terms of budget and how flexible it is.

      Just my 2 cents🫡

To be honest, I didn't even look at AM5 part prices, as I expected mobo, RAM and processor to all push the price well beyond what I was looking to spend.

But having a quick look on PCPP I'm really surprised at the prices I'm seeing. Might go a 7700X based system. Even buying all from Amazon it comes to a similar price, the only real compromise is a no X3D processor, but there's no way I'm dropping cash on current prices for a 7800X3D or better.

Yeah the original 7000 chips have come down a fair bit. But as you said we won't see x3d am5 at this price for a long time. Even then, building an am5 build now and upgrading to an x3d part in 3-4 years if you feel you need it and having that option is much better than getting an old x3d part now, but realistically need a full platform upgrade in the next 5 years.

If buying motherboard and CPU and RAM new..
you should be going AM5 instead of AM4..t he AM4 is basiclaly end of life.. and the AM5.. and going to be
good for at least another 3 years..

if on a budget.. you should have bought this..

Nothing wrong with the Aliexpress CPUs.. just buy from a reputable seller.. look at ozbargain threads for the reocmmendation..

Brick and mortar retailers recently dropped prices from $358 to $349. Been following the prices of this for a while.

As well as the 7800x3d which went from around $560ish or so to +$650 recently… hopefully the 9800x3d is a substantial improvement at around the sameish $650 price.

    • If you're wanting decent frame rate at 4K ultrawide, you're probably better off getting a 5800X3D and a 4080S/4090/7900XTX.

      • The reason for a new build is because my 14yr old is driving me nuts wanting to use my PC all the time. So looking to build myself a new PC and hand-down my current PC to him (but with the current 5700XT swapped out for an old RX580 I have lying around).

Having actually looked at AM5 part prices now though, I'm definitely going to go that way. Probably looking at a 7600X based system.

Purchased a 5700X3D a few months ago for ~$220 off ali. Sold a launch day 5900x for $350. Got a gaming upgrade and cash in the pocket. Win-Win.

  • What's happened to 5800X3D stock, seems to be selling out?

  • Is it really that bad to do a budget AM4 build now ?

    • +2

Upgrading the CPU is ok, but not a full build. AM5 is the way to go for new build

    • +1

If you still need to buy DDR4 ram + AM4 motherboard then probably better to go AM5.

AM5 mobo + 7500F/7600 + 32GB 6000MHZ RAM is much the same cost per item expect for the DDR5.

But you'll be able to upgrade to a 7800X3D/9800X3D later on, whereas the jump to 5700X3D>5800X3D is very marginal depending on the game(1-10%)

  • Does this include an AU warranty?

    Thanks

      Covered by ACL I suppose

      • Sorry what's acl?

        • Australian Consumer Law

But there's a good chance Amazon might be d*cks about it after the 12 month mark (that's been my experience at least).

I just need this to be a little cheaper….

      Wait for Black Friday/Cyber Monday

      • +1

Yeah not in any urgent rush. Happy to wait for whenever the price is right.

Got to agree, these are $350 at most retail stores so they need to do better than a $50 (15%) discount
