This is $30 cheaper than AliExpress which I just got! Damn!

  • +11

Ugh i really want to upgrade my 3600. But i really just cannot be bothered pulling it apart to swap out the CPU

    • +8

Do ittt, probably would be due for a repaste anyways ;)

Or also wait for the aliex sale and grab a 5700x3d

      • I wonder if it's worth getting a 5700x3d from aliexpress given that it's usually around $230, or just get this deal which is $158.

        • +6

5700X3D is much better for gaming.

          • -3

@Sleepycat3: 5700x and 5700x3d are extremely close in performance except for maybe super high framerates on 1080p like 200+.

      • Looking at the date this might be old, but would the following be what you’re talking about? I’m due an upgrade so very tempted!

        AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D CPU US$161.74 (~A$246.48) Delivered @ cp u Store AliExpress - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/863760

    • +13

Same same, bought my system at the start of COVID lockdowns in Jan 2021 with the idea that I was going to swap out the budget-fitting 3600 after a year for something better and throw in another 16gb of RAM - nearly 4 years later and it's still "good enough" that I can't justify it

    • +1

I've done this exact upgrade, made my pc feel 100% smoother and faster and around a 20-30% fps boost with significantly lower 1% frames drops in cpu based games (csgo, valorant etc) :) I bought this cpu at 230 a few months ago and thought it was a bargain, I think this is a no brainer but if you want a true jump in fps games, I think you should wait for the x3d series to come down to a drop

    • +7

Me checking this post from Ryzen 5 1600 :D

      • Haha same! (Well, Ryzen 5 1600X). Paired with 16GB RAM and a MSI GTX 1070 Gaming X OC 8GB. Built myself in 2017.

The biggest workout it gets these days is Lightroom/Photoshop

        • I am the same mate. I normally use it for LR/PS and Premiere pro. Mine is 1660 Super edition. Runs just fine

    • I was feeling the same but pulled the trigger and upgraded my 3800 to a 5800x3D and I'm so glad I did.
If you play any games at all I'd say get the x3D and do it

    • +2

If you are planning to sell the 3600, you ought to do so now before the value completely drops off on the used market.

Do a search on EBay using the ‘Show only sold’ filter.

  • I recently got a 5600 for $155, would it it even worth buying this 5700X now?

    • -1

Unless you can get a full refund then no, only about 20-25% faster.

      • +6

maybe 1 or 2% faster in games.. lol where did you get 20-25% from a 5600 to a 5700X workstation tasks like rendering maybe only because of 2 extra cores.

    • +2

Unless you need it for something heavily multi-threaded like video rendering or 3D design or CAD etc it's not really worth the upgrade. You will be capped staying on AM4, I doubt there will ever be anything more powerful than a 5950X to come to AM4 ever again and thats the only real substantial upgrade left for you unless you're gaming only where the 5700X3D or 5800X3D is where you could upgrade. To be honest just wait and see what Zen6 (next year) and Arrow Lake (this October) from Intel bring in terms of performance because at some point you're going to need to get a new motherboard etc if you really need more performance/cores.

  • +5

A good 8core cpu for $158…simply an amazing bargain!

  • +5

I have waited SOOOOO long. Finally.

  • Did you just use the word ‘unlocked’ in the title for the hell of it?

    • +1

      cut/paste from Amazon i think

    • +1

      Unlocked = overclockable

  • I’ve been holding off upgrading my sons 3600 for a while, waiting for the 5700x3d to drop again on AliExpress but I think this will do. See what turns up, been having a terrible run with Amazon for a while.

    • +2

If you're heavily tilted towards gaming and have a good GPU, then it's worth waiting for the 5700X3D.

Otherwise, this deal is a fantastic balance between cost + productivity + gaming - and you can dump the difference in money into a better GPU.

  • +3

to the OP thank you for posting an ACTUAL bargain

  • Is the 5700g a good price?

    • +1

Well I was looking around last night and cheapest I could find on a 5600g was 188 so this seems good. Just bought the 5700g.

    • +3

5700G is similar performance to last gen 3700x, but with the integrated graphics and PCIE Gen 3 instead of Gen 4.
Don't be confused with the 5xxx name.

Price is ok. if you don't need integrated graphics, get the 5700x.
I use it for a server CPU with HEVC transcoding and it works well. However idle power consumption is not as good as compared to an Intel CPU with QuickSync video

      • +1

5700G is similar performance to last gen 3700x

Depends on use case, if cache is important (such as games) then it's close 3700X otherwise it should be closer to the 5700X.

    • Great produtivity CPU, can handle basic gaming without spending extras on GPU.

  • Have a 3700x and a rx6800, worth upgrading if I'm considering a gpu upgrade in 2-3 years?

    • +2

I would personally just hold out, use the time to save for a high end cpu from the x3d series, and then get a shiney new gpu and cpu (and mobo/ram) all together. Put aside $10 per week and you’d have a really solid gaming rig in 3 years time. As opposed to a hodge podge one based off an extremely aging ecosystem.

Unless you’re running into serious issues the 3700x is no longer able to deal with?

      • Thanks, makes sense to me. 3700X still working fine but i'm just looking forward as my build is pushing 5 years and my PSU just died so would be good to have contingencies.

    • 5700X3D would be the best option.
Otherwise change to a 7500F or 7600F with new board and DDR5 ram.

That GPU (rx6800) is fine for now can last a while with 16GB's of ram

      • +1

I have an ITX build so the tax on new mobo etc will be significant outlay - will try to hold onto AM4 as long as possible then

    • I upgraded to 7500F from 3600 and was worth it. CS2 fps from 90-160fps to 150-230fps after the upgrade. I'm using a 6700xt so I'll probably grab a 2nd hand gpu somewhere. grabbed the 7500F off AliExpress recently for $160 including cashback but bough the ram/motherboard/cpu fan locally

    • Do you want an upgrade that may not make a difference big enough to be noticeable without an FPS counter on the screen in many games?

Some people will find that's worth it, but if I'm bothering to upgrade my CPU I want to see around 50% uplift, not 0-30%.

  • +1

Sorry but until my i5-2400 & GTX 1050 does the unthinkable and dies I won't upgrade, real 486 PC users know what's up

    • +1

My first PC was a 100Mhz P1 with MMX… I've upgraded to a AM5 7600 with DDR5 6000 CL30 EXPO + Samsung 990 Pro… This PC feels so snappy and quick didnt know what i was missing.. even faster then a AM4 5700X.. boot time is around 10 seconds with a Gigabyte B650M AORUS ELITE AX ICE Wi-Fi mATX AM5 Motherboard.

I had a 2600k back in the day. Pretty good PC and lasted me a long time :)

      • It's mental how far we've come in a couple of decades - can fully emulate every part of my first pc (166 MMX with a voodoo 2) running Win98 in 86Box on my current machine without it even breaking a sweat. Not a bad exercise if you feel like upgrading as it'll make you grateful for how good we have it these days!

        • with how fast humans are progressing will be in the quantum age soon
I like how in the 3 body probably the aliens were scared of us because we are advancing so quickly they will be no match for us when they arrive to our planet :) haha

  • +3

Thanks for posting. Got the 5700x to replace my 2700x

  • Heh, so torn!
My 4 year old 4800U based laptop has just started playing up……….
now, what to replace it with!……….This is only 20/30% faster

    But…

  • +2

Alright, looks like it's really time to get rid of the old 1700x…

  • +1

Hey guys would the 5700x pair well with a 3060ti? Im pretty new to this, my current i7 is on its last legs

    • +4

Just a personal opinion, but it's not really worth jumping over to the AM4 platform just to get on this deal… Perhaps wait for an AM5 platform deal to come up instead (ryzen 7xxx or 9xxx models)?
There's nothing particularly wrong with these 5xxx series CPUs, they are great value and plenty fast for most people, but they're becoming a little antiquated by technology standards, being 2 generations old (although it only seems like 1 based on the latest releases), and there isn't really any upgrade path once you have it.

  • Would anyone recommend upgrading to this from an older i7 8086k? It's served me a good 5 years and wondering if it's the time to upgrade

    • +3

I'd say no, this is more for people that are already on AM4.

  • +1

12400F has similar performance and is selling for $165 recently.
So any $239 5700X is a rip off, $159 is a good price, and everyday price should be like $175 if the sellers want to get rid of the on hand stocks and push AM5 platform

  • Is the G the same performance as X? Thinking it could be handy in case of GPU card troubleshooting?

    • +1

The 5700G has less cache than the 5700X, and only supports pci-e 3.0 (vs 4.0 in the 5700X), so there is a performance hit (less cache would be especially noticable in gaming).

Not really worth it for the rare use-case of debugging GPU card issues. Just buy a cheap second hand GPU off ebay for $20 or so.

    • 6.7% slower

      • Probably due to the PCIE 3 vs 4

  • +1

Curious on what the general thoughts are on upgrading a Ryzen 7 2700x (105w MaxTDP) to this?

It seems to be 27% faster for most applications whilst using less power.

    https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/14zd1co/upgrading…

I recently had to replace the motherboard so everything else is in pretty good working order, the new moterhboard is a MSI B450M-A PRO MAX II

    • +1

power probably isn't the issue unless you run it full power all the time.

Question is whether you would notice the difference at 27%?

I went from 4th Gen into to 5600G. 4th not win 11 compatible and on SATA SSD so going to NVME is night and day. Roughly 4x the performance I can tell the difference.

      • Power = heat… but yes agree otherwise!

The reddit thread says 50% boost in CPU

        • +1

Depends on use case, in some games it could be +50%. Also make sure that motherboard has some airflow over the VRM otherwise if you have the CPU running at 100% it might get very hot.

        • +1

Depends on what you use it for I guess.

          Stock cooler is useless.

Got a big chucky cooler with 2 fans and CPU is 45C regardless.

I don't do games so it could be if you play games it could be +50%

          • @netjock: Well, I went with it, it arrives in a couple of weeks, now to choose a cooler :-)

            • +1
              • +1

@netjock: In a rare follow up, new CPU arrived and installed.
                - much faster (at least 50%)
                - much cooler (65w vs 125w)
                - much quieter (new 120mm fan)

Tip for those replacing an AM4 cooler… don't unscrew all 4 screws from the cooler backing plate like online instructions tell you to do. Do two at a time MAX, otherwise you have to remove your motherboard.

                • +1

                  @ImportantCustomer: Yeah awesomeness !
                  Mines in.

A few scary moments in the BIOS jumps, had to do 3, and a CMOS reset

cinebench benchmarks doubled. (from Ryzen 5 2600)
Day to day stuff the same as expected.
                  Davinci exports are much quicker.

  • I am temped to upgrade my 5600x. My current GPU is an Asus 4070 Super.

Would the 5700x be an ok upgrade? Or would I be better upgrading to something better?

    • +2

I don't think you'd be able to notice any difference without an FPS counter on the screen.

    • +2

dont do it, cant feel the difference

    • I feel it wont be worth it. Better save up and move to AM5 when you can.

  • Hit me up with suggestions for anything from atx motherboard to go with this. Wifi would be nice option but can work around it f not

  • Nice one. Holding out for a 5700x3D deal if at all.

  • Xeon CPU of our time

  • the 5700X deal is finshed as expected.. (surprised it lasted that long)

    the 5700G is still available…

    • 5700X is still available

    • was unavailable for a while and had reverted to the original $239 listing. They added more since (twice at least). tried it a few times, said out of stock on the checkout page, gave it another try after a few mins, 3 5700x units popped up in stock again, I just bought one - was on the fence all day since I have an A8-5600k from 11 yrs ago and was thinking it was due for an upgrade.

the delivery dates have changed though

the one from this morning had a delivery date of 22nd sep
the one I ordered ended up being 23-30 sep

  • Damn, it’s already half price in less than 2 years since I bought this.
Edit: Nevermind, it’s just $100 less. Thought US price was AU price.

  • 5700X came back to stock again!

  • 5700X came back to stock again!

  • 5700X came back to stock again!

  • back in stock shows only 1 left and 25% claimed.
Placed order for 1, then refresh and it says only 2 left. haha

  • currently have a 5600g based ITX setup.
recently installed an intel arc 770 for AI stuff (generative images, chat bot etc, using intel AI playgrund), would going to a 5700X help as it would enable PCIE4 rather than being at PCIE3 right now with the 5600G

    • +1

      might not see any difference

      • thanks will hold onto my pennies :)

  • My 5700X has been refunded. Guess they sold a few too many.
