FAQ

Q: What happens if I don't show up to the meetup?
A: You will lose your $10 deposit, and you will earn a special black badge — No Show, which may impact your ability to register for events in the future.

Q: I can no longer attend the meetup. What now?
A: Send me a PM or tag me ASAP so I can remove you from the list and refund your $10 deposit. This must be done at least 5 days before the event date (i.e. by Monday 11 November 2024).

Q: How are there so many prizes?
A: I am ISP. Impressive Sponsored Prizes. Trust me bro.

Q: Can I win more than one prize?

        Margherita is the only pizza available that is vegan/vegetarian, and I ordered 4 boards (12 pizzas) for them. Number of vegans/vegetarians is small compared to the vast majority of meat eaters.

        I've removed some pizza boards and added more vegan/vegetarian food to compensate.

          Commercial hotel did prepare vegetarian pizzas upon request last time. Are you ok if we can request on the day please ?

        I've bumped it down to 48 pizzas for our group of 80. Last year with 60 people we only had 18 pizzas. For an extra 20 people that's more than double the amount of pizzas which means everyone's gonna be eating good this year lol. I still think 48 is way too many.

        If we need more I'll order on the night from the bistro.

    The Commercial hotel in Parra is pretty crappy these days, I’ve been there twice this year for work functions. Their food is pretty poor quality (some of their food is overpriced too for what you get, such as the their 3-4 flavoured pizza options) and is really for people that are used to eating junk food like Macca’s. If you book a table upstairs they generally place the group on tables that are close to whenever band they have playing for the night, and they are too loud so you can’t talk to the people that you are there with well if you’re wanting to have good conversations. Furthermore, the smoking area upstairs on the opposite side isn’t blocked off, and the smoke easily travels into the non smoking areas… One of my colleagues couldn’t take the smoke, it was having an impact on her throat, and she had to leave after 15-20 minutes, she talked about lodging a council SR for investigating their poor smoking practices and also reporting it to the EPA, but in the end I don’t think she bothered.

    I’m a big fan of bourbon whiskey and Scotch whisky, the selection is pretty shit at the Commercial hotel (they at least had Lagavulin 16 on the bar which they charged me $19 a shot for) and charge high prices for entry level stuff, from memory standard 81p Wild Turkey cost between $11-$13… Club Parramatta has higher quality whiskey/whisky on their bar for lower prices (a shot of Wild Turkey Rare Breed is $13 something if you have a membership at Club Parra), and their food is better quality for the price too in my opinion.

The fact that you've made dozens of claims on OZB about having no interest in personally knowing "strangers on an internet forum" makes you commenting on the OZB meetup post so hypocritical to everything you've said in the past. But, you never have been capable of keeping your story's straight.

                              You'll be doing yourself a favour by not attending and saving yourself the embarassment from being asked to leave. Yes, it's a public establishment, but if you went there purely to sit nearby and watch… well, that would be just pitifully sad.

                              It's all good though. A quiet word with security and you'll be moved on pretty quickly. Save face and sit this one out. Toxicity and violence aren't welcome here.

      Probably the main reason for choosing The Commercial Hotel for many people is the very convenient location, rather than having the best quality food or cheaper drink etc.
      Considering many would be using public transport nearby, and being so close to PSQ.
      Yes apart from this event by Ozbargain, my current workplace's End of Year will be held at this venue as well in Nov.
      Some of the Google reviews did mention about the spread of smoke too, so not saying you are wrong.

    Venue was very noisy though and difficult to hear to talk with others, so maybe consider elsewhere next year. It'll also prevent people from sneaking in.

    Thanks for coming everyone!

    Appreciate all the messages above. I hope you all had a lovely chat with fellow OzBargainers and the yes despite we had a bit of a food struggle at the start, it seemed like we had heaps of leftovers at the end. The venue was actually quite spacious, much better than the downstairs area last year. Did anyone here meet @jv? Some of us managed to spot him before he (or she ;)) had to duck out!

    We had 100% attendance at the event, which was extremely good just like last year. I guess the prizes really pull everyone in.

    Congratulations to all the prize winners for the event, including these major prize winners:

    @Greentea won the Segway Ninebot Electric Scooter F30 valued at $799
    @acai won the Anker 568 USB-C Docking Station (11-in-1, USB4) valued at $699

    I do agree with @kerfuffle that the prize draw was rigged, because if it wasn't I would have won the electric scooter! Thanks to @Clear, @Mobileciti, @Wireless1 for everything to assist with prizes and sponsorship during the night, and thanks to all sponsors for this event, especially reps: @tightarse, @Wireless1Rep, @AHUANG, @CLPL, @SegwayNinebotAU
