The flat bar for $137.99 is not a bad deal.

It's definitely stable enough for noseslides and boardslides without having to bolt it down (has rubber grippy pads beneath each of the four feet), though in fairness I don't weigh all that much at ~65kg.

    • I'd grind or board slide on it, but dunno if I'd trust that thing for nose slides, tail slides or crooked grinds. And once that rubber wears off.. whoooops

  • thanks! didn't get hit with any skateboard surcharge.

great deal, i bought a few skateboards that are collecting dust from the last year. i did save a lot of money though, but only used a handful of times. stopped after i busted my ass at the skatepark. i keep forgetting im not young anymore.

    • Get yourself some pads and go again,
There were still some wooden ramps around if you can find one they’re much easier on the joints when going splat.

I’m in my thirties and have only long boarded. Got my self a 8” complete deck for $50, great deal. I can’t wait to injure myself. If I can teach myself to ollie, I can die happy.

Feels great when cruising down a hill and you have to pop an ollie over a hose or something. My advice is practice on grass then flat ground then while moving. It's all in the back foot, jumping one foot after the other. You will be bombing stairs in no time

  • yeh nah i bought a cheap element set up and it was garbage. I wouldnt buy it for a kid

    • Id really only buy it for the wood.

      • not too skate on i hope, It broke really fast

Got one of the competes for my 6 year old. It’s fine for a beginner. Especially since kids leave them outside (rain etc) sometimes. I’d be pissed if I bought them an expensive setup and it got ruined because of this.

Anyone other than a beginner, get a custom with better hardware. Or even a decent secondhand one off marketplace.

Got a board last time… Yet to learn how to use it.

Any tips for an adult learning skateboarding, safely?

    • +3

Get good bearings. Cheap ones will make the board stop when you hit a crack or shift weight suddenly

    • +1

There are loads of YouTube tutorials, SkateIq gets a lot of support. Nothing beats just getting out and getting comfortable on the board though.

Wheels on the softer side (between 92A-97A, even softer if you're more after cruising than learning tricks) and shock pads/risers, specifically the rubber ones like these - your joints and lower back will thank you for it. Not so important for complete beginners or younger people, but even just doing ollies and basic flips they help a lot to soften the impact.

Second the other comments too - good bearings make a huge difference, Bronson G2 or Bones Reds are great (beyond those it's mostly diminishing returns), and SkateIQ is fantastic definitely worth checking out, one of the best skateboarding teachers out there for sure.

Edit: if you only do one thing, get better bearings

These boards are regularly on sale for $35 inc delivery at Surf Dive & Ski. If you can't wait, $50 is still a decent price.

Ahh brings back memories. Great times for my elbows to kiss the pavement.

  • Any recommendations for pads? I'm an absolute newbie so won't be going fast at all. Got a proper decent helmet but I feel like I don't need a top line pads if I'm just at best cruising at low speeds on flat surfaces?
Shame Kmart only sells kids sizes lol.

Is this a good sale? From the site posted above:
