Off a cliff, approximately 159 km/h.
To estimate the terminal velocity of a computer tower, we'll make some simplifying assumptions:
* Mass: Let's assume a typical desktop computer tower weighs around 10 kg.
* Cross-sectional area: Assuming a square cross-section, let's estimate the area to be 0.25 m² (based on dimensions of 20 cm x 20 cm).
* Air density: We'll use the average air density at sea level, which is approximately 1.2 kg/m³.
* Aerodynamic shape: The computer tower is not particularly streamlined, so we'll assume a drag coefficient of 0.8 (a reasonable estimate for a bluff body).
Calculating the Terminal Velocity
The formula for terminal velocity is:
v_t = sqrt((2 * m * g) / (ρ * A * C_d))
Where:
* v_t is the terminal velocity
* m is the mass of the object
* g is the acceleration due to gravity (approximately 9.81 m/s²)
* ρ is the density of the fluid
* A is the cross-sectional area of the object
* C_d is the drag coefficient
Plugging in the values:
v_t = sqrt((2 * 10 kg * 9.81 m/s²) / (1.2 kg/m³ * 0.25 m² * 0.8))
Calculating this gives us a terminal velocity of approximately:
v_t ≈ 44.3 m/s
Converting to a More Understandable Unit:
44.3 m/s is roughly equivalent to 159 km/h or 99 mph.
Note: This is a rough estimate and actual terminal velocity can vary depending on specific factors like the exact dimensions, weight, and orientation of the computer tower during its fall. Additionally, factors like wind resistance and the specific cliff height can influence the final speed reached before impact.

@seamonkey: The 'Note' part of the output 😆
The others don't tend to include such a section. Gemini also tends to spit out dot points more than the others too at least in my experience.
@seamonkey: Claude is my current go to too! Just wish they gave higher usage. I always manage to run out!
@seamonkey: I don't use AI too frequently tbh, though when I do I typically just use Gemini and ChatGPT and compare their outputs. They're quick, easy and free to use so I don't have to worry about hitting a cap or limit.
Yeah I was about to nitpick factors such as orientation during fall affecting the cross sectional area and its aerodynamic profile not to mention wind resistance until I read the note, realizing it covered all bases and this shit was AI because no human can be this thorough about something so inconsequential.
Rather dishonest to not cite AI at first but at least he owned up
@seamonkey: Relax. No need to get so defensive. People appreciate the truth and real content. You posted fake content without saying so. This is an internet forum, so it's not like anyone's holding you up to a standard. Regardless, what you did was dishonest. People simply dislike dishonesty, that's all.
@seamonkey: I dunno man. Your response just isn't very appealing to me. Perhaps consult with your AI next time before replying
For someone who claims to understand when people are 'taking a piss' on Ozbargain, this one ^ sure went over your head. You didn't have to delete all your posts. 🤷♂️
I thought Gemini was going to say they've got ethical concerns and suggest peaceful constructive ways to resolve this
The 1.5 model fixed a lot of that BS

$14 postage to WA.
$12 on Amazon.
Black one is also $21 delivered for prime members.
So this isn’t really a “deal”
and… I just paid for 2 with shipping was going to buy 3…, damn is this the same specs?
looks like it changed it price to 18.99$ now
$50 !!! now on amazon
Here's one for $21.19: https://www.amazon.com.au/Blissgo-Adjustable-Computer-Deskto…
Looks like MSY has same also. https://www.msy.com.au/product/computer-tower-stand-adjustab…
MSY and Umart are the same business essentially now. Websites are pretty identical.
Ah ok fair enough.
OP read the Title Guidelines
I use a chopping board instead to elevate it off the carpet - https://www.kmart.com.au/product/acacia-chopping-board-42713…
Okay but how do you roll your tower to the local cafe?
Just moved my PC on the carpet last night and had the same idea
I have piece of laminated wood that's the exact size of my tower. It easily slides around on the carpet. :)
Thanks for the idea
Thanks for the idea, also just moved my PC to the carpet, I think I'll get this size and remove the handles.
I can't find it anymore but Kmart used to have a rectangular Acacia serving tray with holes in it. Great for this purpose, lifts and provides airflow.
This or Apple Mac Pro Wheels Kit for $1,049?
https://www.apple.com/au/shop/product/MX572FE/A/apple-mac-pr…
Beat me to it by 4 mins. ( ͡° ʖ̯ ͡°)
Can you really compare Apples to oranges?
Lol, some tool will try justly that price.
It's stainless steel and it "just works"! /s
Doesnt make it any easier to carry the case to a LAN though.
Where was this deal in 2005 when I was going to LAN parties?
This or the Mac Pro wheels?
Still rockin my OG 2014 HAF-X, wheels make it irreplaceable
As an alternative, I use this dolly from Bunnings:
https://www.bunnings.com.au/syneco-580-x-290-x-100mm-movers-…
Works quite well but probably not as nice looking.
I've got 2 of those. Good for moving things around, but the noxious fumes that come from the 'wood' is overwhelming. I have to keep them in a plastic container. :(
Cheaper on temu etc
Weight limit is only 30kg. 😢
Your rig waits more than 30kgs???
Well, my full tower is almost 23kg alone. I've never weighed my tower with everything in it but it is HEAVY.
Has MSY & UMART shut all their stores down?
i paid $10 for this on amazon a few months ago.
Is this for wheeling the rig from right to left under the desk without disconnecting all the cables first ? Just trying to work out how useful it is. Generally when I have my rig in a place, I rarely move it. Only time that I do is to blow the dust out of it, in which case I would just pick it up.
What is the max speed?
