Promotion details:

  • This offer is provided by eBay Marketplaces GmbH (“eBay”) and commences at 00:01 (AEST) on 10 September 2024 and ends at 23:59 (AEDT) on 10 October 2024 (“Promotion Period”).
  • eBay reserves the right to cancel the offer at any time as set out in the Changes clause below.

  • “Eligible Sellers” means sellers who:

    • do not have a current eBay Basic, Feature or Anchor Store subscription;
    • have Australia or New Zealand as their registered address on eBay; and
    • have an active eBay Plus membership. The eBay Plus Terms and Conditions will apply in respect of your membership;
    • have received an invitation from eBay to participate in this promotion;

  • The Promotion entitles Eligible Sellers, who have activated this promotion in accordance with these terms, to 0% variable fees (which is a component of Final Value Fees as defined on eBay.com.au) on the sale of one Eligible Listing sold during the Promotion Period. “Eligible Listing” means an item listing that is:

    • newly listed on eBay.com.au during the Promotion Period (i.e. it cannot be a relisted item through ‘Good ‘til Cancelled (GTC) or auto-renewal);
    • listed in multi-quantity or single quantity fixed price or auction format only; and
    • not listed in one of the Excluded Categories (as defined below).
  • Eligible Items will only receive the discounted variable fee until the listing renews, whether by auto-renewal or because the listing is Good ‘Till Cancelled (“GTC”). After this, standard fees will apply.

  • The discount will automatically apply to all Eligible Sellers and Eligible Items during the Promotion Period, in most cases. If the discount does not automatically apply once an Eligible Item has been sold, please allow 24 hours for your eBay.com.au account to be credited. Any dispute about discounted Final Value Fees must be submitted to eBay in writing within 60 days of the date you incurred such charge, otherwise you waive such dispute, and such charge will be final and not subject to challenge.

Exclusions:

  • Items listed in the following categories are excluded from the Promotion (“Excluded Categories”): Websites & Businesses for Sale (11759), Aircraft (63676), Boats (26429), Caravans, Motorhomes (32633), Cars (29690), Motorcycles (32073), Trucks, Commercial Vehicles (6049), Real Estate (10542), Services (316), Flights (3253), Tickets (1305), Travel (3252), Gift Cards (172009). These Excluded Categories are in addition to any listings or categories restricted by eBay's prohibited and restricted items policies.
  • listings scheduled to start after the Promotion Period ends;
  • listings that are relisted during the Promotion Period, either manually, through the automatic relist function, or the GTC function;
  • listings that are listed during the Promotion Period but do not sell and are relisted outside of the Promotion Period;
  • any item sold before the Promotion Period; and
  • listings in Classified Ad format.

    • Yeah, same, this should be the right way. It’s really silly expecting eBay plus user to accept offers.

  • +1

    Nothing in mine. M…

    • Same here

    • yup cant wait to sell one item

    • Yep same here. Don't forget to take a screenshot of the offer in your seller hub in case it disappears after you list.

      • Really?

        • yes :)
dont know why - maybe i sold a couple before

          • @LLK: me 2. i have 3 ebay accounts and have it on all in the seller hub despite no ebay plus

      • After signing into eBay,
check your eBay Plus membership at this link:

        https://www.ebay.com.au/ebayplus/

    • “Eligible Sellers” means sellers who:
"have an active eBay Plus membership. The eBay Plus Terms and Conditions will apply in respect of your membership;"

  • Is this one of the ones where I can list a whole bunch of stuff and whatever sells within the time will get the free fees?

    • +1

      first one to sell only!

  • Why is there no link after "Activation Link" in the header. I can't find it … :-(

Who is eligible for this Promotion?

  • Anyone know if this is valid if you list something as "or Best Offer"?

    • +1

yes it is but I think once it "sells" - its used. So if the buyer doesn't pay, I think the transaction still counts and relisting it doesn't help.

      • +1

Yep, had this happen to me. I ended up just complaining to ebay support about it and they refunded the fees.

  • +1

I have listed something but the offer in my Selling Overview still says 1 of 1 remaining. Is that correct?

    • +1

thats fine it wont say 0 out of 1 remaining until your item is sold

      • Thank you Opious

      • Thank you x 2

  • Anyone know or tried signing up to eBay Plus during the promotion period to get the offer?

    • Haven't tried it yet, but looks like you can. On the ebay plus page (link at top left of page), I have a banner that says "Join eBay Plus & sell by 10/10 to pay $0 variable fees."

  • Wow, that was quick! Listed and sold within the hour. When do we think another one of these is going to come out? I've got more vintage band t-shirts I need to sell, hot market at the moment!

    • Don't think anyone here has a crystal ball.

      • I'm currently selling mine on eBay but I've already bubble wrapped and boxed. Dang!

  • +1

Anyone know if an item was listed for auction before then 10th but sold after the 10th would be eligible? Cant see it mentioned in the terms. Thanks .

    • Believe it would have to be a new lsiting setup after the promo goes live, so assume not.

      • +2

I personally had some low value listings active before the 10th and one of them sold after the 10th and I was not charged a final value fee, which is a shame because I had listed some high value items after the 10th thinking that the listings before the 10th would not be eligible so your item listed before the 10th may actually be eligible if sold after the 10th

        • Thanks good news. Not so much for yourself.

        • +1

Thanks for sharing that - eBay change the rules nearly every time these days

  • +2

I'm currently in the rare position of begging eBay to charge me fees on live chat. I listed a handful of 4 figure items yesterday as well as a ticket for around $100. The ticket has sold and I've only been charged 30c in fees and that's my one item gone, despite the fact Tickets is an excluded category.

    • Let us know how you go. I'm in a position where a low value item listed before the 10th sold after the 10th and was still eligible for the 0% FVF. So I've just wasted my one free listing. I thought anything listed before the promo started wouldn't be eligible.

    • yep let us know how you go.. same boat

    • +1

Yeh good luck…. I wish i saw this before my $100 item sold (minus $14 advertising!) , But i have 3 phones ~ $300ea i was going to list this w/e!

They wont do crap… Everytime i join suppport chat, they tell me how valued a customer i am after 19yrs of being a member…. Then do nothing to actually help me.

Wasnt going to renew Plus this year, but it auto-renewed, and may pay for itself in this combo deal alone

  • +2

Damn… sold a low value item that was listed weeks ago and the promo counted on that ….. will ebay ever get their promos to work the way they say they should?

  • its only for ebay plus members right? i have 2 ebay accounts one has ebay plus other not. but i got this promo in my account that as no ebay plus. so im not sure if i sell something with that account, will i be charge fees?

    • I think you still need Plus. I don't have Plus but I can also see the promo in my account under the Selling page but if I click Learn More it does say you need Plus.

  • Here's a little trap I fell into when selling using previous offers: It's the first item that gets listed and paid for after you activate the offer, not the first item that gets sold.

    • I activate and list an expensive item for sale
    • Auction ends and the item sells, but the buyer is slow and hasn't paid for it yet
    • I list a cheap item as Buy It Now and it sells
    • 0% fee is applied to the Buy It Now, not the auction.
    • Yes the promotion is redeemed only when the item is paid for, not when it sells.

  • Bruh I deliberately cancelled and created new listings for two of my expensive items and then a different cheaper item (that I didn't relist) sold and the discount applied to that what a scam

  • SOB.

I thought it was for new listings so I didn't remove my old listings… sold something for $50, 30 cents fees. An hour later, sold $650, $85 fees.

Oh well, still better than Facebook.

At least I got free postage on both.

    • +3

It was for new listings - it explicitly stated it. Ebay never fails to disappoint every time I start trusting them again.

  • +1

eBay screwed up the promo this time around applying the no fee on the first sold item (regardless if new or old listing) starting 10 Sept rather than first new listing sold.

    • +1

I even did online chat to complain they said bad luck basically. I said so I can never trust eBay terms and conditions…. And they just said some garbage…

    • Yeah spewing!
My promo on both my selling accounts got used up on an existing $35 and $20 listing. I didn't even click the link to sign up for the promo or listing anything new :( Saved me just over $5 vs I was planning to list a couple $500+ items and save myself $50+

  • Thx OP, little nervous because although it shows up didn’t have normal activation process. Few years ago had quite a few battles with eBay where they charged me after having active no final value fees offer and I hadn’t realised until I looked at a statement. Came to hundreds of dollars and had to take them to fair trading.

  • +1

I have this in my non-eBay Plus account shows up as:

Plus Offer: Pay $0 Variable Fees on your next sale
Description: Max 1 sale. Sell by 10/10. Excludes Store Sellers. Fixed fee, other fees & T&Cs apply.opens in a new window or tab
    Start:10 Sep 2024 at 0:00 AESTEnd:10 Oct 2024 at 23:59 AEDST
    Promotional offers – 0 used, 1 left.

… but just a regular account however, usually when its shown like this in the promo window is is actually valid.
    Have NFI now

    • I would not risk it since the T&Cs does state:

      “Eligible Sellers” means sellers who:

      have an active eBay Plus membership. The eBay Plus Terms and Conditions will apply in respect of your membership;

      • -1

I think the thing to do is go on eBay chat and ask for them to confirm first, thus creating a record - that's what i did
(if your sanity can stand it)

        • +1

I asked eBay chat and was told:

“Yes, the offer was sent to all the sellers. However, the conditions needs to be met and one the the condition as you are aware requires users to be eBay Plus member.”

And if I joined eBay plus today then I will be eligible.

          • @Happyd: Might be worth it paying for a month @$4.99 - would be cheaper than fees for an over $35 (if it actually works)
I don't really trust anything eBay help say

            • +1

@King Tightarse: true, met b4 even 1st chat said "yes", 2nd chat wouldn't honor just simply "that person was wrong", argued useless.

  • Can anyone confirm if this includes sales made overseas please?

    Thanks so much

  • +4

Had something on Scumtree for $350~ for over a year. Very few responses and the ones that were interested just wanted to lowball.

48 hours of eBay, it sold, I got 100% and a free shipping label.

    Good deal - thanks OP.

    • 48 hours of eBay, it sold

eBay is still relevant for selling stuff, and sometimes even better than FBMP,
and I hope eBay.AU realizes that sellers will return to eBay in droves, if selling fees are closer to 0%.

eBay.UK has just introduced 0% selling fees on ALL ITEMS, recently.

  • +2

100% works great iPhone sold with this 100% no fees its great.

    • eBay.UK has just introduced 0% selling fees on all items

  • +1

Free shipping definitely handy…. But lately i've found i cant sell ANYTHING unless i couch up for eBays advertising… Which means, by the time 9-12% dvert fee + 13-4% Final value fee, it's pointless listing half the stuff i would like to get rid of (whilst making some money).

No idea how some of these stores sell me 5x items for less than the cost to post them, thats akways been a mystery!

  • Does anyone know how long the free shipping will last for? I've been getting it, but nothing in my selling hub.

    • No worries. 30 September.

      • +1

So the free postage stopped working today? Can anyone confirm.

        • +2

          Mine stopped yesterday :(

  • does the item need to be sold by the 10th of October or I just need to list it by the 10th and it doesnt matter when it sells?

    • +2

just listed by 10th and sold within 30 days after

      • Thanks for this answer mate! I had an auction finish yesterday and the buyer contacted me this morning telling me they can't pay until this weekend. Did a live chat with eBay and as expected got a big run around being told it won't count:

"Here the promotion will only be counted when it is sold and not when the auction is ended. Just confirming, has the buyer confirmed that they will pay after 10th ?"

A little annoyed at the buyer but obviously my choices

        • List the item again with a 3+ day auction today or tomorrow and cancel the order and hope the promo applies to the new auction
        • Run a quick 1 day auction
        • Wait for buyer
        • Go to order details. What do the fees say?

          • @I Smell Pennies: Having a look at other orders

            What you earned
            Order total
            AU $1,184.00
            Selling costs
            Transaction fees
            -AU $0.30
            Postage label
            -AU $30.45

But for this one in particular it just says awaiting payment so no mention of fees just yet. I managed to get another chat rep to confirm they would refund the fees if for whatever reason it doesn't apply given the auction ended before the end of the promo so I'll have that to fall back on at very least if it doesn't auto apply

      • I'm so confused. I thought it had to be sold by the 10th so put in a short auction period dangit.

        The terms say this:

The Promotion entitles Eligible Sellers, who have activated this promotion in accordance with these terms, to 0% variable fees (which is a component of Final Value Fees as defined on eBay.com.au) on the sale of one Eligible Listing sold during the Promotion Period

        • Me too. And I have a different problem. I had a buyer that bought from me and canceled. So I asked CS if I would get reimbursed if I sold my next item and they said yes. However, as of today I haven't sold anything. If I sell something in the next 30 days, I'm sure they'll say it wasn't within the promotion period. Don't think I want to argue with them when I sell something 30 days later.

      • +1

Seems like eBay changed the rules this time https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/15797796/redir

  • Anyone got any idea if we'll get another next month?

    • I think in 2023, they did only 1 of these 0% fees around the same time too (October-November),
and there were 2 or 3 promotions of 0% fees but capped at around AU$ 200.

  • Why can’t they do one per month for plus?

    • +2

eBay.UK has recently introduced 0% selling fees on all items.

Starting Oct 1, 2024, it is free to sell for UK-based private sellers. Sellers do not pay transaction fees when the item sells. This applies to all categories, except motors (Cars, Motorcycles & Vehicles listings). You can list up to 300 items for free each month; after that, you'll pay 35p per listing.

      source: https://pages.ebay.co.uk/selling-on-ebay/#FAQs

  • I left this a little too late because I thought it was the same was it was before - now it does say that the item needs to sell by today? I was going to list it today and hope it sells within the next month to get the promo, like it was before.. but now.. not sure!

  • What do people sell on eBay ?

    • Anything.

Lots of prospective buyers have watch-lists for items, and if you've got an in-demand item for a good price, you'll make the sale too.

    • It's one of the only platforms if you want to reach an Australia-wide audience, especially good for those niche items that may not sell locally or where you want more "privacy" compared to say Facebook marketplace. eBay acts as an escrow service so neither party has to fully trust the other like on Gumtree and the like.

I've sold old wedding rings, second-hand designer hand bags, computers/laptops, phones, collectables, and anything else that's postable.

To be honest, I wouldn't blink at eBay charging a 5% fee. The current ~13% fees though make me really consider what I list on there though.

  • +2

I thought the promo t&c mention that the items must be sold by 10 Oct. Has anyone sold past this date and if so confirm if a final value fee was charged?

    • Listed on 9th October, sold on 15th October - $180 FVF :(

  • +9

I can confirm that my item sold after this promo date was charged normal FVF :-(
