Too far for Qld people :)

Test drives are free at car dealerships 6 days a week.

    • Rather not deal with the sales people and their dirty tactics at dealerships

Do you really think the people at this event aren’t just salespeople from the local dealerships?

        • Been to this event 3 years in a row, they really aren't

          • @Freak00718: Wonder where they source the cars from then if it’s not local dealers looking for sale leads.

            • @PainToad: Of course the intention is for sales leads, but HART wouldn't put their name next to this if it was just a vessel to sell BYDs and the rest, they're way too closely tied with Honda to do that. Its like when the police force get cars thrown at them, not because they hope the police legitimately consider buying Porsches(for example), its just for publicity.

              • @doobey1231: The original intention for the EV test drive days when it started 3-4 years ago was to create awareness of EVs in general and give the public and opportunity to test them out in a bid to try and convince them to move towards EV. Granted there is a sales element to it and not denying that at all but by no means are they pushy or calling you after to convince you to buy

Surprisingly not that easy to do anymore.. Mate went looking for a new daily about 6 months ago, the amount of dealerships that wouldn't allow a test drive until a deposit was put down was pretty crazy. Now I don't buy new cars because yuck, but I have worked at plenty of dealerships in the past and a deposit before driving has never been a thing, when it comes to a dealership sale, half the gig is letting the car do the selling.. The few dealerships that did allow a test drive were giving us salesmen drive cars with fkn baby seats in the back, I swear covid has just ruined the dealership experience.

      • I left a inquiry for a Kia ev9, got a call next day morning, TD arranged on Saturday at a time of my choice - had a good drive for around an hour - good experience

      • I have been to close to 20-30 dealerships in the past 3 years, as I've purchased 3 cars since. All of them have given me a test drive even before I mentioned I was willing to buy, most offered within the first things blurted out of their mouths.

If you cannot get a test drive it is because there is something weird going on or you're not telling us the full story like the car is an extremely limited model etc.

Oh because you had no issue that means no one can? Comon mate. There are way too many variables in this discussion to make assertations like that, the same reason why I won't say you are lying because I don't know your situation, I would be grateful if you didn't insinuate things that you have absolutely nothing to go on.

      • Sounds like they didn't think he was serious.

        • -1

Yeah car salesmen aren't the most observant of people, my mate was a cash buyer and made it very clear he wanted to drive away in a car that day.

          • -1

            @doobey1231:

made it very clear he wanted to drive away in a car that day

That sounds like the problem. Same day delivery for a new vehicle? Adding a condition that was virtually impossible for the salesman to meet just meant they didn't want to bother wasting their time.

            • -1

@howcan: Hey ill give you a hot tip - stop doing backflips to justify the actions of other people cause you are wasting both of our time. This would've been their easiest sale of the quarter if they pulled their thumb out.

My friend was looking at cars that were ready and available to purchase same day, he told them right off the bat - please show me cars that I could drive away either today or tomorrow, we didn't walk into toyota asking for a 300LC to be delivered immediately, there isn't a backlog on anything else anymore either. The reason he brought me is because I have worked at dealerships and I know how they operate.

              • -1

@doobey1231: Backflips? Justifying actions? You know how dealerships operate? Lol. Oh please keep going. Funny how how you want me to stop doing backflips but you've now changed your claim from same day being the condition to delivery to the next day also being acceptable.

I also find it amusing how knowledgeable and informed you like to portray yourself to be ("worked at dealerships" - doing what, cleaning cars?)when you're literally such a clown that dealership sales staff laugh in your face even when they're presented with the possibility of an instant sale. If the next day was also an acceptable condition, how much of a weirdo are you for a salesman to turn down an instant guaranteed commission just by slightly expediting the delivery process? And you boast about your experience working in dealerships? Here's a hot tip for you champ - you clearly don't know as much as you think.

                • -1

@howcan: Firstly, relax. I gave you contextual information, working at a dealership isn't a boast in the slightest. Feel like I have touched a nerve with the last comment lol.

Secondly, you continue to just make baseless assumptions to defend people you don't even know just to have an argument with a stranger on the internet. Dead set mate you need a hobby, like seriously, this attitude issue isn't healthy. It will begin to flood out of the internet and into your day to day life, people will react a lot differently in the real world to your attitude issues.

@doobey1231: Hah, it's so funny to see someone so incompetent at basic life events fire up 😂 It most definitely is a boast about your knowledge when you're making statements that you "know how they operate"….the ex-dealership staff member who can't even secure a TEST DRIVE for his mate despite him having a fistful of cash 😂 Oh my god what a hilarious scenario. You have some sort of deep narcissistic personality disorder and you're so insufferable that even salespeople don't want the money you're throw at them just so they don't have to deal with you. I'm embarrassed to read such a ridiculous situation. Here's another hot tip for you, maybe take your mum next time if any of your friends ask you to help them buying a car 😉

                    • -1

@howcan: Use more emojis you are really showing me how unphased you are

                      • -1

@doobey1231: I came to the conclusion that mixing in pictures will help you understand better how much I'm laughing at your incredible incompetence. Good luck with your future vehicle purchases, dealership pro.

  • I did one of these at SMSP a year or so ago.
    Waste of time tbh

A qualified driving expert to accompany you on your drive

To tell you can’t drive over 60kmh in the car pretty much.

    • +1

Not in my case. Was able to go as fast as I wanted … which wasn't as fast as I wanted because slow Tesla drivers were holding up the track so had to constantly slow down. Think I got up to 80 or 90km/h in the Cupra Born I was driving

  • +1

Do you know what EV cars we can test drive?

    • +1

My money is on BYD and maybe a hyundai or two, they are all over these press/public days like flies on shite.

    • +3

Tesla, BYD, Cupra, Hyundai, Kia were all on offer last year

  • +2

    Is this a bargain?

    • More of a … hack? 🤣

  • Not really a bargain in my opinion. More like an announcement about an event being held to promote a product.

    • +4

If we disallow this I beg we disallow the netflix/paramount/whatever that are basically advertisements.

  • Thanks for posting this event, it was very useful for me.
I went to this event on the weekend - it had a collection of vehicles which you could drive.
Cupra, BYD, MG, BMW, Mercedes, XPeng, Toyota and probably a few others I did not notice.

They allowed you to take different cars for a (fairly short) lap around their private roads, one of the organising team members (Seemed to be instructors from HART) would sit in with you while you drove.

Additionally, there was also a coffee van, Gozleme truck, and a collection of EV related information stands out the back, e.g. BYD, Mercedes, Toyota, various home charging equipment vendors, NSW gov and NRMA.

Personally I drove the XPeng G6 Extended range and the MG4 64 Excite.

    Enjoyed the experience.
