At this rate these EVs are going to be cheaper than a G84

  • ill wait till 29k

  • +2

So these were manufactured now 9 months or longer ago. They are really starting to back up.

    • +2

MY = Model Year, not Manufacture Year. Technically these could be 2022 stock.

      • How do you find the manufacturer year

        • +1

You gotta look into the car itself … there is label that imprinted with details

  • +1

Waiting for any EV with 500km+ range at $29k.

    • +8

Move to China and your wait will be no more.

  • +2

Isn't this because they are releasing a new model

    • -2

It might be because EVs are not selling well world wide. The US is full of stock in storage that dealers cant sell.

In at least one US state the govmnt is forcing dealers to sell 1 EV out of every 6 vehicles next year and the current average is about 1 in 200 so its not going to happen. Then the gov will use taxpayers money to subsidise the EVs which is just going to delay things until the inevitable economic disaster results.

  • what would be cost for this with novated leasing ?

    Excite from $34,990 Drive Away

    • Will depend on your salary and a few other things as to how much tax you'll save.

Hmmmm, heard a lot of rumours with no parts available with MG, Haval or LDV & it's very expensive to replace these parts.

    • +1

      Hnmmmm, got any facts?

An article by an ex NewsCorp journalist? (Real journos will hate me using 'journalist' with 'newscorp' in the same sentence)

        • +4

Maybe check on Sky News as well, just to make sure it's legit

      • Check the many EV Facebook groups. Insurance goes up massively after first year and posts about buying parts from AliExpress because they are either difficult to source locally or outrageously expensive. Btw, I'm not an EV hater. I'd love one and with a recent extended power outage in my area, I'm using that as an excuse to at least look at one that has V2L for basics in the house.

        • +1

I’m not sure if there is any V2L / V2H options now because the requisite inverter/ power box isn’t sold and you’d need consent from your grid. Used to be you could pay $15k for a Quasar wallbox, but i understand they’ve left australia. These would work with the Outlander or Nissan Leaf.

I have the outlander and the 1500w outlet was good to at least still make a coffee while we had a power outage.

I think i saw there are cheaper options that can allow some V2L capability - but it’s probably not widespread and i wonder if they’d work in an outage —> or like your solar, it gets turned off by the grid operator

          • @nijatk: Nah I'd just be plugging directly into car to keep basics running, fridge and freezer. I'm aware of how much power toasters and the like draw, so just want to keep fridge and freezer going to stop food spoiling. Again, just looking and won't be doing it anytime soon, but considering it.

We have a solar edge solar system and to charge a solar edge battery with our solar when power is out would require a new inverter, more cost. I'm not a huge fan of batteries for homes, like power wall, because they cost a shit load and are rarely used.

            • +1

@tessel: 100! that’s precisely my thinking on the whole home battery situation. Thought the Chademo bidirectional charging with outlander or leaf, would help but both the chademo plug and the bidirectional wall box seemed to have gone out of favor. Still a great car for us though, so not regretting the decision.

And yes in a power outage, just hook up an extension to the back to keep your fridge going. Outlander phev can draw off petrol, once the battery is down, so it can act like a generator for the house appliances.

        • I'm part of of a few EV FB groups and majority are very positive experiences. Like anything, there are always exceptions.
I'm not part of Tesla groups but I do hear their insurance are expensive but I don't have the facts.
By the way, MG offers 10years warranty and insurance would cover accidents.
MG4 has v2l and it's handy for the fridge during power outage

          • @cmyk: Insurance has gone double for ICE as well this year

        • My ice car's insurance jumped out of my reach this year, Ev's slightly more. There is no sense in how these insurance premiums are inflating.

    • +7

You get all the parts included when you buy the car.

      • How about a spare tyre ? :P

    • +1

I am not sure it is as bad as that BUT…..

This is why Tesla is the best brand to buy as parts are plentiful, cheap and increasingly available from third party suppliers. The cars are robust and long lasting.

BTW, even the European EVs, especially the expensive ones have the same issue with parts and poor long term durability. Same with Hybrids, Look at the @evclinc X account, scary.

      • Interesting X account you shared there. Thanks.

      MG 10 year warranty

      • -1

        And 1 year waiting parts

    • LDV commercial vans taking 3 months to get a window is well known. Dad has an LDV van, took 3 months and it ended up being the window from the wrong side.

    • I can confirm this, i crashed my zs ev in december 2023 and didnt get it back until july 2024. The whole experience was a nightmare.

    • Many companies in the same position. Friends got a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee and he has been waiting for parts for 6 months. He can’t get a straight answer out them why they aren’t making parts for his car 🤷‍♂️

Sounds to be like they are about to go under

Still too expensive. MGs are absolute dumpsters on wheels.

    • +3

Your comments are based on what scientific research.

      • +1

Maybe he drove an MGB once.

      • +1

        OK Raj, I’ll bite.

You want scientific research - mate it’s a car. There’s a plethora of reviews online. How scientific and trustworthy they are is debatable. But looking at the bigger picture, MG is not (yet) a trustworthy brand. Like in Europe, China is trying to flood the market with ‘cheap’ cars to assert some market dominance and move volume. This ensures they continue to make money through servicing and spare parts long term. They do not have a wide dealer network, quick and inexpensive access to a catalog of spare parts and a reputation for quality engineering.

There is a large sample size in online forums about the issues and mediocre quality with these cars. They can’t be all made up. These links echo my concerns:

Whats the worst car you have ever driven/owned?

What’s the worst new car on the market?

The issues many people report with these is cars concerning. Like Ozbargain, the cars generally mentioned as a yardstick are Toyotas, and quite rightly. Many (a fair generalisation) Chinese cars are not built to last as long as Australian consumers keep the cars on average. What is the average age of a car in China before it is written off?

Also, as stated on here many, many times the resale is horrendous. Have you looked at the online sales websites? There’s an absolute tonne of these poor cars being dumped. Since they are also popular cars with hire companies, the market is even more saturated.

You can fake legacy by buying a name, but it’s still a pig in lipstick.

A close mate bought one a few months ago to replace his aging VE Commodore and absolutely hates it. Due to stock issues, the
MG wasn’t his first choice, but he needed it for work. I’ve been in it a few times with him and he’s expressed quite a few concerns.

        • What concerns,

          Plus what I read from

Whats the worst car you have ever driven/owned?

MGZS NOT MGZSEV, totally different cars and technology.

          Same with the second link
What’s the worst new car on the market?

          • @raj76: My point is that MG is not a brand that has engineering prowess, quality and is pumping out cars that will likely have questionable life spans.

This was also Hyundai and Kia in the 90s and 00s.

Drivetrain is only one variable in car quality.

            • +3

@ilikeit: Still haven't answered "what concerns did" YOUR MATE "have. Anyone that brings new tech covered with their 10 years warranty is welcome. From what I saw at the dealership, there is a wait period for MY23 models plus only Blue and white available no extra charge for metallic paint, $34770 with mats and tinted Windows is good deal. My only concern is getting a speeding ticket and ability to all the functions provided.

    HODL!

  • +1

Looking forward to an MG4 at that kind of pricing!

    • Me Too!

    • Enjoying my MG4. Happy waiting. It a very nice car to drive.

      • Very nice - Which model did you go for?

        • Excite 51 for value, battery longevity and the biggest space of all the hatchback ev at the moment.

There will be a new refresh that coming out soon. Should bring the current excite 51 down abit. In all honesty keep an eye out for dealer demo that can be had around the 32k mark.

          • @ChickenAdobo: Yeah that's the value pick, for sure. 30k would get a lot more people interested I reckon!

            Have you had any gremlins?

            • @Qbagger: Just the annoying habit of lowering the adas and turn off the bing and bong. Everything else is awesome. Enjoying the car.

              • @ChickenAdobo: Are you expecting a software update that allows you to opt-out or opt-down the binging and binging?

                • +1

@Qbagger: Don’t know. 🤷 if there is version 2 with stored memory functions then I happily physically upgrade the unit otherwise it a known issue with current mg4s. No car is perfect.

They may rectify this in the next refresh.

  • I wonder if some of mg model still ancap zero star

  • +4

I did test drive MG ZS EV Essence and BYD Atto previously, and I feel MG lack of refinement and features for its price range. It's essence-tially a retrofitted petrol car.
Plenty of hard plastic interior, no "door thud", lack of electronic adjustable seat, old school non-led interior light, suspension feels a bit off probably because it was designed for petrol car, etc.
On the bright side, MG servicing cost and interval is much lower than BYD. BYD servicing is absolute rip-off.

    • The worst MG EV you can test drive. Do yourself a favour and test drive an MG4. Apple for Apple comparisons. Both of them are on a dedicated EV platform.

  • Any haval deal?

  • +2

The depreciation will be brutal, imagine what you will be able to pick up 4-5 year old used one for.

  • Thanks OP.. At an MG dealer now, wife is getting one for $31,500 after WA rebate of $3,500.
10 year warranty, can't go wrong! Cheers

    • +1

I have a friend that sells MG. He said he wouldn't sell this car to me. Never.

      • +1

Can you ask him any specifics why not for this price range!!
        Cheers

        • He said ANYTHING from MG is trash. There is no parts when it breaks

          • @Dienk: Long term that is great as the scrap yards will be full of MGs with low milage for parts.

BTW I take your story with a grain of salt.

Quick Google suggests there is at least 10 EVs from China to be introduced into Australia this / next year. They are securing their user base

    • +1

All your base are belong to us

    • 52 other EV coming to Australia by the end of 2026. If you can wait better to wait until you find the right car for yourself.

      • Got a few different BEVs in China last month using DiDi.

BYD sedans. Pretty good like we got here.

Best one was Aion Y it is a compact SUV same footprint dimensions as Corolla sedan but feels a lot more room in the cabin because they shrank the front and pushed the wheels to the corners. Back row doesn't have to deal with the wheel tunnel eating into the space. Good range too. 450km freeway and 550kms urban.

But it seems like Aion is only bringing their massive SUVs here.

  • This or https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/852792 (Mazda CX-5 $37,990 and gettable for $35k sale still running)?

That is, chinese EV or japanese ICE today?

  • So, last month was at $39,990 and now for October they raised the price to $45,891 and added the "$8,000 factory bonus" that should bring it down to $37,891…
    Thoughts?
