I am utter amazed you didn’t throw in your referral code into the description.
Actually, might pay to do so incase people don’t have a friend with origin currently so they can start

    • +14

the ozb referral link system handles that, and provides a 'weighting' increased chance for them being the OP

    • +3

And you can find out the referer real name that way as well, good way for identity leak.

      • ooh no my real name WOWoooOoo

        • Damn, they got Nick Fury, gonna sign up with his referral!

      • Well I'm not with origin so unsure of the details it gave.

  • Can we have the refferal link updated so it can allow to new format?

    • +3

We are looking at it right now, I just need to update the Reg.Ex rule

      • Thank you!

        • +1

          Enabled.

For the people referring, please take note of referral format, it is https://m.origin.com.au/e/{ReferralCode} and not the Spike referral code.

          • @scrimshaw: Hey mod can you point me where I can add in my referral?

I want this…but have no friends. I mean…no friends who are Origin energy customers. No…I meant no friends sigh

  • +1

    One credit per address.

People should remove their referral link once it’s been successfully used.

The Existing Customer receives one credit per New Customer for each supply address the New Customer signs up with Origin. The New Customer receives one credit per supply address signed up with Origin. Credit will be applied to the electricity account, unless the New Customer or Existing Customer only has natural gas with Origin, in which case the credit will be applied to the natural gas account.

  • Has Origin paid out part 1 of the 4 part $300 federal government payment yet?
I'm looking to jump ship from my existing provider, however they seem to have no idea when it will be applied.

    • +1

Yes, it was credited to my account around the start of August.

      • What if you haven’t received it?

        • +1

Wait for your next bill, if it's not on there then, follow it up.

      • +2

Thanks. I'm with Ovo in Victoria and they haven't paid it. Can't churn out until they do…

        • +2

I was also waiting and i figured id be spendkng much more waiting than actively churning, plus im sure when one of my retailers actually receives it they legally need to pay it out

        • +1

Payout varies per state. I want to port from Origin and if new retailer doesn't pay it then I'll go to the ombudsman. I don't think it should restrict us moving as we see fit.

        • +1

I’m in exactly the same boat almost used up the 3x $50 credits plus monthly referral credits so just waiting for the government credit so I can port out to the next best deal which might be origin by the looks for a couple months unless I get a free referral bonus’s lol

          • @Clarky77: Engie has 400 (200 elec, 200 gas) but I'm ineligible as I took the 200 for the simply energy plan last summer.

        • I ported to ENGIE on 28/8 (I was with OVO) and at that stage I still hadn’t recieved the $75 but I just got a deposit into my account of just under $75 and checked the final statement, it was paid into my account on 29/8 so for all you OVO customers it should be on your next statement!

    • Yes I have received the $75 for this quarter. They didn't really send any email or notification but when I checked on the app, it says I owed them x amount from the most recent statement minus $75

      • I haven't received it yet in Vic via Momentum but my last bill was early August. Has anyone else in Vic received the $75?

        • +1

I haven't. Also in Vic with Momentum, last bill was 12/08 with charges to 04/08.

Also want to jump ship but waiting for my $75

      • From what I’ve been told the first payment should be credited on your first bill after August but if you were billed in the first week or so of August it might end up being on your next bill. Then Oct 1st is the next one I can’t remember the last 2 dates though I think Dec 1st and Feb 1st it wasn’t the logical quarterly dates of Jan 1st and March 1st though which was weird!

        • +1

Makes sense- my bill was issued on the 9th this month and it didn’t include the rebate. However the amount I paid was $75 less than what’s on the bill. So I guess the next bill will reflect this.

          • @foxes28: Same here where the amount debited was $75 than what's on the bill. I doubt the next bill will have a line item for the $75. That'd be confusing as we'd be unsure if it were for this quarter or next.

            • +1

@skid: I think it will appear on the next bill. Your current bill for example would include all payment you made after the last bill was issued (under the "Since your last bill" section). Likewise if you make an additional payment today, it will appear on your next bill. What happened here was they applied the rebate several days after the bill had been issued.

              • +1

@foxes28: You were right. Latest bill has an extra line item for the $75 and the rebate from the last period has a line that reads "Balance brought forward". Confusing but it all balances out in the end.

If this government endorsed and protected cartel member can afford to give $300 for a new customer, I have to ask, how deep does it gouge for a Return on Investment?

    (The cynic in me lives)

    • +3

They can afford as they own virtual solar networks. They buy the kw from you for peanuts and sell it for 0.35c per KW

  • Can this stack with everyday rewards plan? Referral is a link or code?

    • mmm ok I tried to show you how the link is constructed replacing the code with "xxxx" but got automatically removed :(

Anyway it's a link to the Origin website followed by a code, not sure if the code can be entered manually when you sign up or you need to click on the actual link

    • +1

They usually don’t stack but read the terms and conditions and if it doesn’t explicitly say offers can’t be combined then you might be able to call after your first bill and get them to credit you but it’s unlikely to automatically apply both. I had to call OVO to get them to apply both the referral bonus and the $50x3 months sign up bonus and they really didn’t want to do it.

    • looks like you might have to pick the 'Variable' option, as rates/prices are the same as the link on the Rewards app (at least for my address)

  • Rates are beyond horrendous here in Vic, northern suburbs.

Still worth it for signing up for 1 month then leave I guess. Just be sure to sign up for monthly billing instead of quarterly.

    • I think we have it pretty good here in Victoria esp comparing with SA and QLD with their peak supply fees (they pay supply rate plus usage rates then an extra daily charge which Is based on the highest kW demand 1/2 hour over the entire month) at least we still have the option of flat rates for usage which you can find under 25c per easily although daily fees are getting out of hand now only a couple of years ago I was paying under 50c yet now you are lucky to find one under $1 with many pushing $1.50 which is insane esp if you are a very low user like myself. So much for competition making things cheaper for consumers lol Thanks Jeff Kennett

      • I guess my comments was made in comparison against other retailers for the same house. I've got no insights vs other states or locations at all.

  • "Accounts credited after the first bill is paid" which means the credit is not applied to the first bill ?

Btw, the Wollies Reward offer is probably better for most people. You only get equivalent of $100 in Woolies credit, but the rates are much better for me

  • Currently on AGL on the current churn for electricity/gas. I've used Engie within the last 12 months. Is this currently the best deal?

  • Are people seeing their referrals come through in their bills? Any successes?

  • +2

Sweet been clicked 3 times fingers crossed

  • Definitely compare the real world cost. I havent compared price for a few months but last time i did origin worked out nearly $450 dearer than my supplier

  • +1

540 clicks. Of those about 200 are from ppl who have clicked to find out how to put their referal code in. Lol

  • I'm given 2 different referral codes, depending on whether the "friend" wants to sign up to a home or business plan.

Is everyone putting in their home referral code?

Can we have both here on OzB?

  • This MOB has been denying to refund my $1200 QLD rebate for weeks now as my account is always on credit.

    • think the only sure way to get the rebate is to switch retailer. it sucks if you are on a good rate as you would lose that.

  • Has anyone switched from AGL and managed to receive their account credit back as refund to their bank account? My account is in credit over $1K with the rebate payment.

    • AGL dont refund as far as im aware

      • should be able to: https://www.agl.com.au/help-support/billing-payments/request…
Like with everything AGL, you have to chase them up. I'm in the process of this right now, I'll report back when it's completed @UB78

        • Thank you! I made the jump to Origin. Will start chasing them for refund once the final bill comes through.

          • +1

@UB78: I was on chat and I was able to get them to process the refund after a bit. Customer Rep didn't know what to do with the credit and was asking on whether he could refund it. In the end, he got confirmation and ask for my bank details. Said it will take 5 to 7 days.

            • @yoquierotaco: I got mine requested through chat as well last week. Hopefully they'll get it sorted by end of week.

  • Anyone think it will be an issue receiving the referral credit when their T&C’s state the following;

    1. You must only share the unique referral code with your friends (the people you know). Your referral code must not be shared with people you don’t know, including on third party sites for example through promotion on public forums outside of your personal network. The referral code also must not be used in paid ads. If your referral code is shared in any of these ways, then no credits will be paid as a result of any New Customers signing up using your referral link.

I want to sign up but I’m worried they won’t honor the referral credit if I use an OzB code.

  • Just got my first bill, did NOT get the credit.

    • Our team has confirmed, this credit is being applied after the new customer pays their first bill. So, you will receive the credit after the first bill being paid by you.

  • Received a $75 credit. Was it $150 between the two?

    • Same here. Received $75 credit instead of $150! No, the deal clearly mentioned $150 for each referrer and referee. Has anyone else received theirs?

      • +2

Could be the next round of government credits??

        • Most probably the second round of $75 government utility relief payments. I got my first one in August.

Found this online about the payment dates:

What happens if a household changes retailer or moves houses?
          • Retailers are responsible for providing rebates to their customers with an active electricity
account on the following census dates:
ACT, NSW, NT, SA and TAS
          – Quarter 1: 31 July 2024
          – Quarter 2: 1 October 2024
          – Quarter 3: 1 January 2025
          – Quarter 4: 1 April 2025
          QLD
          – Quarter 1: 1 July 2024
          – Quarter 2: 1 October 2024
          – Quarter 3: 1 January 2025
          – Quarter 4: 1 April 2025
          VIC
          – Quarter 1: 19 August 2024
          – Quarter 2: 1 October 2024
          – Quarter 3: 13 January 2025
          – Quarter 4: 1 April 2025
          WA
          – Census Date 1: 17 June 2024
          – Census Date 2: 18 November 2024
Western Australian households will receive their rebate in two instalments to align with
the payment of their household electricity credit scheme.
          • Changing retailer or moving houses will not affect a household’s rebate if they still have
an active electricity account at each census date. For example, if a household changes
retailer after the first $75 rebate, they will receive the remaining three $75 payments on
subsequent bills under the next retailer.
          • Depending on census dates and when households change retailers or move, households
may receive one electricity bill from their new retailer that does not have a rebate for that
quarter but should have received that quarter’s rebate from their previous retailer. These
households are still eligible for the total $300 payment and will see a $75 rebate for the
next quarter on their electricity bill.
          • Where customers change retailers with a positive balance, retailers and jurisdictions’
          relevant standard business rules apply.
          • Households in WA that move from a retailer to an embedded network after the first
census date may not be eligible for further rebates. See Key Information for Households in
          Embedded Networks section

    • I got both this month
      $75 government monies
      $150 refer a friend.

Refer a friend showed up as was second bill so was 'after' I'd paid my first bill

      • Did the $150 show up as account balance in the app? Or was just applied to your second bill?

        • Didn't check the app. Appeared on the 2nd bill as credit.

  • 8 clicks, no credit yet.

      1. None for me
      • 54 , no credit either
