Thanks for sharing. Neg to highlight this backdating practice from Red Energy that will catch others out.

      • A friend had the same experience with Red Energy. Negging to highlight this further.

        • I had this happen with AGL. Luckily still in the cooling off period, so cancelled.

SB is currently offering $210 Cashback for electricity and gas signups or $130 for just electricity. Combine with energie $500 sign up credit ($250 each gas/electricity) or Powershop $300 ($150 each) and even if the rates aren’t great most people will get a few months free energy.
I haven’t looked at Red Energy’s rates but $50 isn’t going to help much unless they are fantastically cheap.

Cash Rewards also offering $220 Cashback but I’m not sure what the breakdown is if you only want one or the other?

    • Agree $50 to switch retailers is measly. Better Deals available.

Signed up 2 days ago directly using Expired Deal: $200 for Electricity + Gas $100 Red was an option.
Signed up again with PowerShop for $200 + $150 electricity credit.

All are through same comparison company as those. But comments in that Deal warned it's more sure to sign up directly. And has higher return💰

Yes they are run by a company called econnex, I’ve heard complaints about people not getting their gift cards or Cashback over the years but I’ve been using them through both SB & mostly through CR (they used to be the only Cashback company that offered energy rebates) for at least 10 years every 4-6 months and I’ve only ever had 1 that didn’t track and they honoured it anyway after providing evidence.
Most problems are caused by people not following the directions (sign up through the Cashback app and once stated don’t leave the app until complete, if you encounter an error then exit the whole thing and start again) don’t be opening browser tabs to check things while signing up or it might track to the company/advertisement you last went through in the browser.
It seems complicated but in reality it really isn’t and an extra $200-$250 Cashback every 4-5 months makes a big difference to me, I haven’t paid for electricity in years and the Cashback and sign up credits have greatly reduced my gas bills.
Really we should all be trying to find the best deal every 6 months anyway but if you just set a calendar notification every 4 months and then wait for a boosted Cashback/great signup over combination which pop up at least once a month and often more it becomes automatic and only takes 5 minutes and the time it takes to check offers for a few days every 4-5 months.
        Well worth it imho

        • Been switching electricity retailers every few months - directly through Econnex Deals. Had no problems.

Effectively never paid for electricity for years due to incentives to switch💰
          (all electric house, no solar)

            @INFIDEL: Respect!
I wish my house was all electric, even in a small unit with only hot water and a gas oven my gas bills are still double my electric.
Gas prices are insane here in Victoria and from what I hear we aren’t alone.

            • @Clarky77: Thanks👍
My background is a bit different… Lived off-grid years ago. (My Hippy period✌) So frugality in energy consumption was normal.

Lived on most basic 1 solar panel + deep cycle battery. If the battery was flat - go to bed…
No city luxuries. Only 12V lighting (predating efficient LED), small stereo & tiny TV. Gas stove & tiny caravan gas fridge. The bare basics.

Was actually blissful. Quiet acreage overlooking ocean. (Shack on friends property - so free.) 20 min drive to beach. Plenty of mango, avocado, bananas growing there.
On Sundays, musicians turned up to play acoustic instruments🎶

Installed Hot Water! I remember that!
Had a bath there under a mango tree. Heated by small fire underneath🔥
Local beekeeper dropped off free firewood & honey. What more could a person want?

Now in the city, hot water system broke years ago. So boil water in $7 Kmart kettles, as needed for a hot bath. Am in no hurry😉

Enjoy it, as spent a lot of time soaking in hot baths in Japan. So bathroom is decorated like Japanese bathhouse🎏 Even the clock resets automatically to Japan time. My sanctuary!

No Winter heating. Mainly fans in summer. Cuts costs.
*But have aircon on at moment - hot & very humid😲

Can be easy to cut energy use - for 1 person (who doesn't mind minor inconveniences to save💰) Of course most don't want to live like that…

(There's plenty of money in generating novel ideas & thinking differently!
Had my own consultancy business in CBD, helping people (Minister of Govt, State Managers of Multinationals, sports people, actors…) & businesses find novel solutions to problems. I love a challenge🤔)

  • Just tried to start the sign up process by clicking through the random referral link tool and during the sign up process Red Energy asks you for the account number of the friend who has referred you. Not sure if the mods have a way to implement this system or if people are happy to share their account numbers for the referral promo.

    • +1

the referral code at the end of the referral link is the account number
