  • 1440p seems a little unnecessary at 14” no? I don’t need this but I kinda want it.

    • +1

I have a 1080p 15.6-inch portable monitor, and tbh, I would prioritise higher refresh rate over resolution. 1080p looks fine, but at 60Hz it doesn't flow as smoothly, especially when it's connected to my gaming laptop with 300Hz refresh rate. The difference really is jarring.

      • +7
        • Interesting, but I don't think I'll be getting a new one any time soon. Maybe in a few years then. I think I overpaid for my 1080p monitor, now that most of these portable monitors are in the 100-150 AUD range.

        • It's showing AUD$99.
After signin, the price changed to AUD$112.87.
          Any idea what happened there?

        • +2

          Cheers, ordered this one.

$110 after adding gst if new user, $117 for existing users

  • +5

FYI - I believe this device is actually 15:10 aspect ratio.

For context, 15:10 aspect ratio like the Surface Pro (Laptop) display aspect ratio.

Nonetheless, thanks OP! I picked up one of these monitors on an earlier deal. Good bang for buck! Great to use as a lower/secondary monitor for Teams chats etc.

    • Can this be powered and fed graphics via one USB-C from say a MacBook Air?

      • +10

@zfind , yes, assuming the USB-C port on your laptop supports display out.

For context, I've tested this with a few Lenovo ThinkPad/ThinkBook laptops, Surface Pro 8, and Samsung S22 Ultra (DEX mode) , that all are able to power up this monitor and output display with a single USB-C cable.

PS - Since Samsung DEX output is 16:9, but this monitor's aspect ratio is 15:10, the Samsung DEX content is a bit stretched. The monitor and Samsung phone both do not have any options to resize/crop etc. On that note, if you are primarily using it with devices that have content fixed at 16:9 aspect ratio (e.g. Samsung DEX or HDMI to a gaming console (e.g. Playstation, Xbox, etc), the 15:10 aspect ratio of this monitor probably won't be ideal for that purpose. Instead, look for a typical 16:9 portable monitor if you plan to use it for those purposes

        • Awesome info - thank you!!

      • I connect it to a macbook pro via usb-c and it works fine (i.e. both power and video over one cable).

This monitor is almost the same size & aspect ratio as a 14" macbook pro display, so I prefer it over the 16:9 displays.

At native resolution I find text to be a bit small, and when scaled it is not as sharp as the inbuilt macbook display.

    • +4

They usually label it as a 3:2 aspect ratio.
"Productivity" monitor since it's a taller aspect ratio and fits in more scrollable content. You will get black bars for any video content however.

      • +3

        @JTayzer , you are correct!

Thinking of "15:10 = 3:2" brought back primary school memories of equivalent fractions!

    • Me wonder how good this is as a portable display for Asus Ally or Steam deck or switch. Although no speaker…

    • does that mean netflix will show black bars because it's not 16:9?

  • Does this have a carry case?

    • +1

It doesn't come with a carry case

  • Get some deal for tablets

    • +23

      good deal on tablets.

      • No way!! Quite cheap

      • I havnt been got in years. Then along comes you. ffs

  • +1

just got this when checking out: This coupon code is now unavailable. Try collecting another.

  • I maybe using the stand it came with incorrectly but it’s extremely flimsy.

  • +3

OP please clarify as there are 2 screens available (1)15.6" at approx $84 from $231 and (2) 14" at approx $122 from $326…

Your description notes the 14" but notes the 15.6" price?

    • There's two screens available on the listing to choose from. Color: 14A-2K (this) and Color: 14T-2K (touchscreen, more expensive and not this).

I have no idea where you're seeing 15.6".

      • +4

selecting 14A-2K shows a photo with the 15.6"
selecting 14T-2K shows a photo with the 14"

        • Colour: 14A-2K is the model and it's 14 inches. The thumbnail image that says 15.6" is wrong and not part of the technical specifications.

      • +4

Ali Express has a terrible selection section, easy to get confused when your also battling broken English explanations.

        • +4

I hate it when sellers have clickbait titles with seemingly good prices then when you go there, there are options for different items and the one with that price is much lesser and nothing like the titles,,,

          • @Buy2Much: Ali Express in a nutshell.

          • @Buy2Much: Precisely. When you go off the title they get you and say look at corresponding image. But when you go off the image they say read the title. Either way they always win.

  • In the market for something that's 16:10 and 120hz refresh or higher - got any good deals for something like that?

    • Someone else posted this 2k, 15.6", 144hz one
(aliexpress.com/_mMiF74u) but I can't relink it without it being flagged.. 🤣 I have it in my cart but was hoping for more feedback here on it.. 😅

      • Yeah I saw that one, but that one is 16:9. I've gotten used to 16:10 on laptop screens with that extra vertical real estate

        • Damn, fair enough.. 😅 Can't argue with that.

            • @newaim: It wasn't 2k, but it's linked in my first reply to Garbo? Should work if you just put www. at the start of it?

              • @WasBargain: aliexpress.com/_mMiF74u this link? 404 for me

                • +1

@noone: That was the one, yeah, not sure wtf is going on. I just dropped the www. and it allowed me to post.. 😅

Check the comments at the top, 3rd one by @foxpants is the one I bought last night.

  • Bought one from previous deal. I use it everyday and loving it. Connect direct to USB-C laptop using their provided cable (carry power and video). Extremely clear screen. FYI I use it for work only. Tried once Nintendo switch which is awesome too. If you can get one with build in stand will be even better. I got 14" which I think its easier to carry with my laptop 14"

  • I have 2 x 27' monitors for work. Just trying to understand if people are buying this as alternative to proper full size monitors? Someone said for Teams chat but you do have your laptop as well?

    • +6

      Portability

      • You mean to say extra portable screen to your laptop screen when moving around. Hmm

        • +3

That's how I use mine. I take the whole "remote working" thing seriously and often work from a park. This monitor is light enough you can shove it in a backpack along with your laptop and a powerbank and head out for the day.

    • +2

      Enables WFH from my patio.

      • +1

Or from a friends house, or the pub

    • +1

I agreed with you in general. My case is different. I have a small desk which my laptop (connected to dock) cannot be opened as additional screen (I use external keyboard and mouse), the laptop hide under monitor riser so this portable screen "replaced" my laptop screen. Not only that, some times I work other location besides desk so portable very handy. At office, handy on hotdesk too. Also handy when I need the "fourth" screen to work on some projects. I love it so much. LOL

    • I use this for university exams, as well as studying at uni working on exams. Allows me to double my laptop screen real estate whist taking up minimally more space in a bag. Have also used it a couple of times to complete work when not able to be at home.

  • I can't get the 14" for this size. only the 15.6"

    • There's only 14" in this deal. Ignore the wrong picture as the "Colour: 14A-2K" says what it is.

  • What would be the best/cheapest setup to use this in a car as a replacement for a portable DVD player that is dying?

    • +1

The first thing that comes to my is a raspberry pi. You’d probably be better off with a touchscreen though.

Edit: It would probably be better just to get a cheap tablet.

  • +2

i have this mounted on a tablet arm and connected to my steam deck so I can play it lying down without straining my neck. It’s the best/laziest thing ever.

  • Anyone know if it's any good for the Kitchen for watching YouTube instructional videos while cooking?

    • +2

get one with a kick stand. Alternatively, a tablet would be the better proposition

    • +1

You will need something to drive it, like a phone or computer etc. Just get a CHEEEPO tablet for that.

  • The coupon isn't working anymore?

  • if i were to get the Google pixel fold 9 pro would this work on the screen as a dex?

  • Is this suitable for watching movies on a plane, like connect it to your phone? Or are there better ways?

  • Is there a recommendation for a touch screen monitor of smaller screen that I can use with Android Auto powered by usb so that car Bluetooth is connected to the phone and the touchscreen helps with Android Auto?

  • Just a warning, I have had two of these. The first one was great, but i unfortunately cracked the panel. The second one is no where near as bright, and is borderline too dim even for indoor use. I probably could have returned the second one but didn't test it for too long as I had assumed it was the same as the other after an initial test. Honestly like it so much I have just chanced on a third though.

    • Not sure if it's exactly the same model… some of the portable panels requires to be powered directly from an external source to get full brightness. Laptop power alone isn't sufficient and only supplies half brightness

      • It is exactly the same model, have tried external power, same cables etc, this one is just about 30% of the brightness of the other one. My first one was sufficiently bright at 40% using the same cables/Laptop, this one is unusably dim at 100%. Interested to see how my third one turns out.

        • +1

Dude, sounds like a defective backlight.

          • +1

@Naigrabzo: Yeah, I'd say it is, unfortunately I didn't properly test it until a couple months after I had received it as I basically just use it for uni exams.

    • do aliexpress take returns? after test

      • +3

I have found they are very good with returns, I just didn't check the screen properly until I had had it for a couple of months as I assumed it was the same.

  • EU plug type only

    • +1

Most people don't need it, as the USB-C port for video output provides power. If you're using HDMI you can power it from a USB port on your device as the draw is small, otherwise any other 5V/1A USB power adapter is fine.

    • Having had two of these, I have only ever powered it from the USB C on my laptop so has not been an issue. Otherwise, as said by clear, you could use any charger.

      • Appreciate the replies. Will grab one.

  • +1

Is the 15:10 aspect ratio okay for the Nintendo Switch? I presume the monitor will stretch to fit

    • +3

If just for switch, I'd go a 16:9 1080p display, it'll just scale better and there are a heap around. I like this as it works out to the same height as my laptop's 14.5" 16:10 display, which no other portable screen does

  • Do these work with Mac OS? (Specifically MacBook air m3)

    • +2

From my basic research it will work - I have the exact MacBook you mention - but the air screen is 16:10. I’m sure it has the ability to run a second screen at a different ratio but I’ll let those better-versed than I comment.

Personally I wonder how this would go for digital nomad CAD work. CAD isn’t fun on a small screen but if it lets me work from a bungalow somewhere warm, why not…

  • Has anyone's credit card been compromised after making purchases from Aliexpress?

    • +1

Never. I always use PayPal so they wouldn't be able to see it.

    • +1

Use PayPal - you shouldn't ever be giving your credit card details to vendors unless there's absolutely no other choice.
Always use PayPal/Zip/Afterpay/Anything that hides your card.

    • I used my debit card twice, first time being a year ago, second time a few weeks ago. Haven't had any issues since.

  • Really great screen for retro gaming. A pixel perfect 6x resolution for 4:3 content and a pixel perfect 9X resolution for GBA games. Refresh rate is fantastic for retro stuff. Also for people great at math. 15:10 is 3:2.

  • Coupon does not work for me, is this still working for some people?
    edit: nvm, coupon works

  • Got charged US$54.73 (with coupon) which is AUD$81.55 (Bankwest debit)

  • Wonder if is worth getting the touch screen version? Or this cheaper one

  • Zsus vs Asus. Love the copycat brands

  • +1

Thanks OP. Ordered one. Didn’t know a ‘portable monitor’ exists until now!! Can’t wait for this to arrive and pair it with my surface pro!

  • I think no VESA on this one

  • Showing AU$91.83 after I apply discount? Price bumped up?

    • Looks like it

  • How's the delivery going for anyone who ordered this?

I ordered on the 21st. I've got update this morning saying it's arrived in your country/region… Any ideas what part of the country this might be? I'm in Melbourne
My Estimated delivery date: Sep 5, 2024, problem is I'll be on a plane overseas on the 4th Sept, it's going to be cutting it fine, but fingers crossed it arrives by Wed.

    • Ordered same day as you, arrived yesterday.
