Bridgestone 225/40R18 92W Potenza Adrenalin RE003 Tyres, 4x Fitted for $765 @ Costco (Membership Required)

980

With a Costco membership, you can get 4 of these tyres at $765 installed. However, even without one, it sounds like Bob Jane should price beat down to $750 based on their price match policy. Costco price is here: https://www.costco.com.au/Tyres-Automotive/Tyres/Bridgestone…

I uploaded a screenshot as you need to have a membership just to see the price.

I have got Bob Jane to price beat Costco the last 2 times I needed tyres. Just print out the Costco price and take it in.

    • -1

You can also call them and direct them to Costco's website, where it shows the discounted price.

    • same here. they can align the wheels too which costco doesn't do

  • +6

What tyre size as price varies. Costco throws in complementary nitrogen, rotations and wheel balances on the life of 4 tyres.

    • +1

complementary nitrogen, rotations and wheel balances - when can I do this? I got 4 tyres fitted on Feb at Costco

      • +1

Standard with every set of tyres purchased from Costco!

        • I mean, do I have to wait a certain amount of months or KMs acquired before I avail the complimentary services?

      • Every 10,000km rotation should be done

    • How do you book tyre rotation and wheel balance after? U have to call or just walk in?

      • +3

Out of respect for the business and your own time I would suggest calling and booking whenever you want to do something like this.

      • +1

You need to make a booking, they get really busy (depend on the store)

    • +1

That is a solid part of the deal, I never knew that. My last tyres on my Prado (not from Costco) lasted 110k kms (and still had life when the car was no more). I would do a 5 tyre rotation every 10k kms. It cost about 140ish to rotate them every time, so I reckon I spent around 1400 rotating the tyres over their life! They cost about 2800 all up and lasted ages because of the rotation and balancing, but cutting out that cost would be nice!

      • I think Costco considers 5 years as the life of the tyre.

        • I am not swapping out 4x4 tyres every 5 years, lol

      • My local Jax charges $75 for a 5 tyre rotate & balance. What rip-off joint are u going to that charges $140? It must be Lower North Shore of Syd because I know the tyre shop around the corner from my partner wants $40/tyre to do a balance.

        • I am in WA, that was for balance, rotation, and wheel alignment on their Hunter rig. The 2 other places that could do it charged similar. A bunch of places didn't have the right kit to handle a modified car with increased adjustment and oversized tyres, so were not an option.

  • Wait a couple months for mycars black Sunday

    • +8

wait for their website to crash?

      • website dies but can get it all sorted no problem through phone customers service

        • ah yes, the numbers that tell you to go online.. lol

          • @johnfuller: I got 4x Pirelli P7C2s in their last deal no problem. Damn good tyres too

            • @bumluffa: My pirelli didnt even last 20000km before getting a bubble in the side wall.

              • @kimba88: Go easy on the potholes…

              • @kimba88:

My pirelli didnt even last 20000km before getting a bubble in the side wall.

Yeah I got Cinturato P7 too and confirm they don't last long. Emailed Pirelli to find out the treadwear ratings and they are 300 UTQG for Powergy and 280 UTQG for P7.

              • @kimba88:

My pirelli didnt even last 20000km before getting a bubble in the side wall.

Pirelli are the eternal disappointment. So good when new and when they hit 50% they get noisy and lose a lot of grip… far more than comparable brands.

Mates & I have given them a try several times with the same outcome. The Golf had P6 fitted when we bought it and they are so noisy!

              • @kimba88: They are now made in China by some Chinese Tyre company that has taken a license to use the Pirelli brand.

                • -2

@Darayus: Thanks for that heads-up. Fully owned by the CCP and all the management and production now in China.

In 2015, China National Chemical Corp. Ltd. (ChemChina) took controlling interest of Pirelli; with the Chinese state-owned company agreeing to maintain the tyre company's ownership structure until 2023. Pirelli & C. S.p.A

                    Nonsense.

  • More expensive on Bridgestone website.
Can you do the same from costco for 245/45 X 18?
So I can look for a price match.
    Thanks

    • It'll be $831 installed

      • Thanks - any chance of a screenshot?
Sorry for asking - I'm not a member of Costco.

        • +1

I don't either I asked my mate, I'll reply later if I am able to get one

Once you hit checkout, the install costs will be added at $19.99 per tyre. May be try it and then update the deal?

    • On checkout page, price does not seem to increase from $765 while proceeding to payment

      • Just checke and you are right.. I think the system is doing something weird. They do clearly mention that "An additional $19.99 inc GST fitting charge per tyre will be added to your basket at checkout."

I have previously bought tyres and the charge was applied at checkout. Not sure if they would ask for install charges to be paid at the time of installation as the cart only includes tyre price.

        • In the OP's screenshot it says "Tyre warehouse pickup" - is there an option before this final screen to just buy the tyres without fitting?

          • @howcan: No there is no such option and previously the fitting charge was applied automatically on the checkout page and an option provided to remove it (tick box). Its no more there :-/

  • Dont have 215/45R18 93W

  • Isn't this what most tyre retailers are doing at the moment - buy 3 get one free?

  • Sweet deal! Was actually scheduled in to get my front 2 changed to Pilotsport 5 for $550 but might as well get all corners changed for $702. Waiting on the call back from my local bob jane to see if they can price beat it

    • +2

One of those decisions in life you will regret, the Bridgestones aren’t the same performance wise as the Michelin Ps5 !

      • +1

It's not like we drive fast here. You really don't need ps5 performance. Xm2s are more than enough for daily driving.

    • +8

Pilot sports are a better tyre than the RE003. Havae had both pilot sport 4 and RE003 before, dry performance there isnt too much difference. However, wet performance the Michelin is much better.

      • +2

So what you're saying is get the Bridgestones for skids in the wet. Got it.

        • +2

No skids, no grip at all in the wet. They are very disappointing for a premium tyre. After making the mistake I will never buy Bridgestone again

  • Very cheap for 195/50R15s as well, $507

  • +1

Just a heads up if anyone is looking for "sport" tyres… perhaps take a look at Dunlop SP FM800. [If you're in Sydney, the cheapest should be Tempe Tyres… but I've price matched at Bob Janes before]

I found them to be much cheaper and in my opinion much better compared to the Bridgestone RE003. According to reviews/testing they're 3% less grippier in the dry but are superior in pretty much every other category including wet grip, wear, and comfort.

Take a look at the reviews for yourself and be the judge:

    • +1

The ratings you are supplying are not comparable results as far as I'm aware. These are user ratings…..

      • +2

Hmmm, I guess take it with a pinch of salt then. But I mean like I've got them and they grip real good and I'll certainly buy them again.

        • +1

I would always go the more performance oriented tyre, everytime. At what point do you want less performance out of a tyre? Only if you want it to last longer.

Assuming since you said they are better than RE003, you have used them?

          • @onlinepred: Yeah I guess at what point do you break even between tyre life and softer (grippy'er) compound.

These tyres are often a good price but they wear out pretty quick for me! ~30,000km

            • @hoxygt: Yep exactly! Also depends on the car. I ended up with potenza sport which are the ultra high performance tyres against pilot sport 4S, and they solved our traction issues when accelerating in the wet in an incline from stop, not sure re003 would have been able to do that.

    • +1

Have just replaced two Bridgestone Turanza Serenity Plusses with these Dunlops. Definitely better wet grip and overall comfort with the new tyres.

      • +1

That usually happens when you ditch your worn tyres for brands new ones

        • Actually replaced tyres that weren't that worn. One had a sidewall puncture and I decided to keep the other as the new spare.

      • +3

        SERENITY PLUS!

    • +2

very good tyre but not in the same category as the re003. PS5/4 are the comparable for a re003 (and absolutely destroy it as well)
Re003 are sport (enthusiast driving) oriented and the FM800 are touring (albeit on the sporty side).
If you aren'nt doing twisties in the dry in a compact sports car, then the FM800 will be the better choice.

      • +1

I would agree, I reckon the FM800's would be good for someone who wants to give it some oomph here and there but don't want to shell out track grade tyres.

    • +1

Dunlop must have stepped up their game then.
My last set of Dunlops were in 2014. Quiet but scary bad for grip. Hardly wore at all, so hard compound.
Mind you, that was on a V8 car, maybe good for an SUV etc.

      • +1

I'm pretty sure the model of the tyre has alot to do with how grippy it is too.

        • So true. Mine were Direzza DZ702. Memorably bad but sold as Sports Performance.
The OEM on XR6 Falcons were Dunlop Sport type as well. Also bad.

    • +1

If you or others shop at tempe please make sure you check the dates on the tyres. They can often be the cheapest because the tyres used are very old, resulting in worse performance and a shorter lifespan than something newer.

  • Was looking for 235 35 19s. Either these or Kuhmo p71

Deal applies to Potenza sport as well
    https://www.costco.com.au/BRIDGESTONE/Bridgestone-23535R19-9…

note "An additional $19.99 inc GST fitting charge per tyre will be added to your basket at checkout."

  • -1

    Good price, horrible tyre.

    • -1

The negative score is amusing because you're spot on. These are awful tyres, ashamed to say i've bought 2 sets in the past after falling for the hype but never again.

      • +1

It's fine, a lot of people can disagree if they want. But it's already been heavily researched that the RE003 is definitely one of lower quality tyres. I stick to Continentals, Pirellis & Michelin. But even then, some of their lines are not any good. Need to do your research, and speak to people that work on cars a lot.

        • +1

These tyres are far better than the mid range tyres it’s priced against. Comparable and better Michelin or Continentals are far more expensive. Agreed about not being the best, but barely anyone even considers anything past budget tyres. These are a massive step up for cheap and midrange tyres, even premium road tyres!

  • Can anyone please check the price for me for size 4x 235/50 R18 97? Thanks.

    • +1

      Original Sell Price $1,344.00
      Discount Amount $336.00

      Total payment $1,008.00

      • Thank you

  • Will Bob Jane price beat Tempe tyres?

    • I went to the Bankstown one last year and they certainly did. I asked them over the phone first though. Went in and they honoured it.

  • tried to get a quote for 245/40/18 for my forged wheels, local Costco manager mocked me saying it's ILLEGAL to get wheels wider than stock one and refused to supply me lol.

then mocked my wheel supplier and what not saying they didnt do their homework bla bla bla

    • +1

      they're cheap doesn't mean they're well informed.

    • +1

Just out of curiousity, what is the stock wheel width of your car, and what is the width of your forged wheels?

      • +2

Plot twist - is actually a bicycle

      • stock is 8 inch, my wheels are 9.5 inch

        • I heard some tyre shops will not mount wheels that are over 1 inch over the stock wheel width to comply with certain regulations. Independent tyre shops or lesser known chains are most likely to overlook it though. If you're in Sydney, Tempe tyres are probably the cheapest or use their prices to price match with other shops willing to price match/beat. Coincidentally I'm also in the market for a couple of 245/40/18 tyres, what brand have you decided on?

          • @Ziggy28: i'm after AD09, i prefer chunky and square fitment. do you know any other decent tyres that's a fits a bit wider like the AD09?

bought a set end of last year during their buy 3 free 1 sale but they cancelled my order lol.

i know tempe, unfortunately AD09 is always out of stock on their site

            • @dukeGR4: Ahhh semi slicks, have you considered Bridgestone RE71RS? I'm not sure if there's any buy 3 get 1 free for this model though.

              • @Ziggy28: RE71RS is more hardcore lol, more expensive as well!

    • What store was this?

I had a similar situation with this before however, I had two options,1. Get it installed into the rims OR they can supply me the tyres loose and get it fitted somewhere else. So I had the option of fitting it into my rims and then I’ll install the wheels myself.

I have my tyres 255/35R18 installed onto rays TE37SL btw

      • ayyy another TE37 enjoyer. mine's Saga SL. judging by the tyres- 9.5J too?

he did give me the option of supplying them to me but i'd have to take it elsewhere. i gotta say you're pretty brave to trust generic shops to mount it on the rims lol…

    • It'll be $831 installed

  • -1

Bridgestone vs ling longs, which are around 300 for 4 tyres…

    • +5

Don't even risk it with Ling Longs. Tyres are the only thing that keep you between the ground and your vehicle. I assure you, cheap bad tyres may seem like a good idea until you're in a situation that you could die.

      • -1

I see what you're saying but ling longs are good enough to be sold in Australia/meet Aussie standards… She'll be right no?

        • With the amount of people running them and accident to linglong ratio I'd say yes, completely safe.

        • +1

@ram4ram@Darude Sandstorm That's the problem, there really isnt standards. They just need to comply with whatever they label the tyre to be capable of (i.e. speed/load rating) and be the same size as specified on the wall.

There's no dynamic testing of tyres for real-world conditions. The existing 40yr old standard says the tyre should be tested for: endurance (24 hours at 80% Load) and high speed (3 hrs at 70% load at speed rating- 40kph), for which the tyres passes as long as it remains intact.
That's hardly an adequate test, if it even is completed, and would likely benefit cheap no name tyres given their harder compounds. There isnt testing of lateral stability/strength, traction in emergency cornering or wet-weather braking, all of which are important safety aspects.

When people say LL or other crappy brands are fine because they do the job, they aren't wrong. They do roll and carry the weight of your car, but the true test of them is when you put them at their limits, like in any emergency maneuver, where the difference is potentially life or death, or at least greater than your excess. As @Tuttorix, mentions LL and equivalents have horrendous aquaplaning issues (i've experienced them in my first car sliding across roundabouts) and its not really fair to compare a highly worm re003 to a brand new tyre, esp when most here in the know agree the re003 is an okay but no great all-round tyre.

        • ling longs are good enough to be sold in Australia/meet Aussie standards

It's a construction standard, not a performance standard. It's also a very low minimum standard which the premium brands exceed by magnitudes.

There is nowhere in the standard that states how well the tyre should perform on wet roads, etc.

When I managed a tyre store head office used to import cheap tyres that met Australian Standards but were totally unsuitable for Australian conditions. EG: cheap Mud & Snow tyres that were designed for Swedish winters rather than Australian summers.

      • Funny you mention that, I once saw a FK8 Civic Type R with Ling Longs lol. the car is clapped af real dirty and rego reads "DAILY"…

a fortnight ago i also saw a Porsche Cayman GTS on crappy chinese tyres at a car meet… that's bloody brave like wth…

        • Unless it's getting tracked the tyres are fine.
I run winruns and swap to ps4s when doing track days personally, although I drive much lower powered GR Corolla

          • +3

@Darude Sandstorm: The problem isn’t the dry grip, the biggest issue is the WET grip. Aquaplane resistance is horrific on those things. But to each their own, up to y’all what you wanna risk.
