    OOS, got OzBed?

    • +1

back to stock Intel and AMD

  • +3

Thought these were refurb. Crazy price for new laptops.

    • -1

      Nothing new about zen 3

  • Showing as OOS. Not able to add to cart.

    • back to stock Intel and AMD

  • +9

these E14/E16 are solid devices, but screens are meh 45% NTSC.

  • +2

Intel 13 gen.. is the fix out for the gradual deterioration issue?

    • +2

According to Intel…No. The issue only applies to Desktop processor.

      • +1

I don't believe that's true, just that the effects are worse for desktop skus due to more power allowing higher boosts.

        • +1

I don't blame you, companies lie all the time and get a slap on the wrist. So why not lie to get more money and get fined a small sum. You'd be stupid not to take advantage of it. Unless you get (profanity) up in Europe. They sue to to punish.

    • +4

Why would you choose Intel though

      • -5

Sub $900 for a reasonably speced brand new name brand laptop that will last me 5+ years…

        • I think you misread… Why Intel over AMD was my question.

          • -2

@smartProverble: Not misread, read your comment again because that is not what is asked based on the context of "this" deal. Anyways, to answer, can't find an AMD deal. If found, yes that would be my preference.

  • Is it worth upgrading to the new-gen Ultra 5 125H with a few hundred dollars?

  • +6

    too much ram

For $120 more, the Acer from office works has oled screen and later ryzen 5 processor R5-8645HS.

    • +1

if it only had touch. For that small screen I prefer touch as addon to 2x 4K monitors :)

      • It's the go laptop so expected to be used outdoors too. Touch version comes with lower resolution and same price from my memory.

    • +1

If it's anything like my personal acer, the hardware won't last, you need to handle with absolute love and care

    • Screen burn in risk with oleds…

    • AI Laptop sounds hooking. Will there be any real benefits or just more marketing like Pixel phones somehow? The look and the price seem good.

    • Best laptop for around that $1k mark?

  • Where did you read intel model oos?

    • +1

was OOS for 45 mins, then back to stock again for both Intel and AMD

  • Does the base model have windows hello? cant seem to find

    • Not for facial recognition, you need the IR camera option.

      • -1

my andriod phone does not support IR, but can do facial recognition?

        • +5

Windows hello requires IR camera for facial recognition (similar to iPhone).

    • The base model should still have a fingerprint reader on the power button which can be used for windows hello

      • base model doesn't have fingerprint

        • +1

          SOL then

I have a gen 2 with i7 and MX450 graphics car, it has been more than capable for daily software dev work and light gaming. Had it for 3 years and still going strong. Only negative is the screen could be brighter.

    • I too have the gen2 with an AMD CPU. The battery capacity is now 87% of original, but it is definitely still up to snuff. Have to agree with the screen brightness.

Purchased in 2020 for $849. Really solid machine. It's not my main device as I have a desktop, but I still use it all the time.

    • How's the battery life?

I'm considering this. My current MacBook Pro battery life is very good (as in no need to worry at all), and it never gets hot / fan not required. What about this ThinkPad?

I suspect the build quality is very good too - no need to worry about the hinge / other places snapping?

      • +2

If you are coming from a MBP you’ll be quite disappointed with the battery life. Not saying the battery is terrible but it is only 47wh. After 3 years I’m getting about 2 hours of solid use before needing to charge but it wasn’t always that bad. The AMD versions will likely have better battery performance.
Build quality is really good. Hinge seems solid. Mine takes a bit of a beating and still feels like new.

      • Oh and as for the fan and getting hot. I’ve had high end Dell and HP laptops which get a lot hotter than this ever has.
I don’t often notice the fan but it does spin up as you’d expect when the cpu is under load.

    Cashrewards available as well

$131.85 cashrewards tracked, plus $79.91 TRS refund soon, so good

  • Is the ram able to upgrade to 32gb

    • +2

      https://www.crucial.com/compatible-upgrade-for/lenovo/thinkpad-e14-gen-5-(intel)

      Your computer's memory capability:

      Slots:
      1 (1 bank of 1)

      Maximum memory:
      40GB or 48GB

      Standard memory:
      8GB or 16GB non-removable

      So yes, 8GB on board + 32GB RAM = 40GB

  • Damn was looking at a Yoga 7i for 2-1 capabilties but this is same spec and very tempting.
Is this of a similar build quality as the Yoga 7/ 9 series?

    • The E Series should be more durable than the Yoga.

but there is a special offer on the HP 2-in-1

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/861520

    • Yoga has 72% NTSC screen and this E series is 45% NTSC screen. If you put them side by side you'll notice the Yoga screen looks better and if you're doing hours of work on it you really want a good screen. If on the other hand it's mostly used on the desk connected a monitor then it won't matter as much.

Lenovo has been doing this for years on their cheaper laptops (good overall specs with terrible screens).

That being said I have old Lenovo laptops and they do last a while. Lenovo E531 from 2013 which I upgraded the CPU and maxed the RAM and it had slots of additional drives (even Windows 11 runs decently on the quad core I7 CPU), it's chunky and the screen is pretty washed out now but good for a spare workshop type laptop that can run most normal apps (16GB RAM). Lenovo Yoga 370 has a much better screen though so that's my travel laptop.

I need another laptop for a kid starting high school next year so am starting to keep an eye out for something suitable. I find that each kid has absolutely trashed their first device in the first year. Getting used to moving around a school and taking care of something is kinda new to them and it shows. The second one has gone on to survive in near perfect condition for its lifetime. So I'm looking for a sacrificial device, although it still needs to be working well enough for their (pretty basic) needs :P

Probably a little early for me, but Lenovo seem to do sales like this pretty regularly.

    • I found the L13 to be more robust. They usually get discounted when they become last generation. Some of them even comes with 3 years warranty + battery coverage as standard.

    • today's price is hard to replicate.

      • Definitely no rush to buy as I purchased the E16 with Windows 11 pro for $979 yesterday and TopCashBack was offering 15% cash back.

    • Both my kids have ThinkPad L13 2-in-1 as BYOD for high school although if you are looking for a "sacrificial device" I'll look for a 2nd hand / refurbished ThinkPad T14 or L13/L14 on eBay for $400-$500.

      • Do they get bullied at school?

Apparently kids at my kids school do get bullied if they don't have a MacBook.

        • +1

Oh yeah all the cool kids have MacBooks. Until in math classes where you can actually write out your equations and proofs on the touch screen in tablet mode, where the MacBook kids have to take out pen and paper (or a separate iPad for more resourceful ones).

      • As it turns out the oldest doesnt use his old laptop anymore so I'm handing down the Education BYOD Yoga L390 from the first kid to the 3rd. It's 8th gen Intel and was upgraded to 16GB RAM and 1TB SSD so is still a pretty good machine. It's in great condition too but I'll keep an eye on the battery which might need replacing depending on use, but it's easy enough. The plan will be to buy a new one for him when this one is trashed or becomes too old.

    • +4

If you're not fussed about used there are tons of ex-corporate laptops available on sites like bneactrader and similar. I've bought 6 over the last 2-3 years: HP, Dell, Lenovo.

For the HS kid I would suggest specs like these:
CPU: Intel 8th to 10th Generation
      Memory: 16 GB
      OS: Windows 11
Storage/SSD: 512 GB, although 256 GB is fine too.

Note: Kids get free MS (Office + Windows) + Adobe products through the school (education email account needed). The HS always has a recommended laptop model new but I find them too pricey.

Initially they tend to do everything on Google so that just needs a browser and memory to run decently.

The thing about the used ones is if it does get smashed it's a couple of hundred lost and not 1k or more.

Once the battery life gets too low (< 4 hours usage on a charge) or the laptop becomes laggy then you could just get another used one (get min 2-3 yrs reasonable use per laptop).

I've done the same for the primary school kid.

      • The problem is what to do afterwards - no one will want to buy it off you, and you are left with what has become ewaste.

        • You could just donate it to charity. And this pretty much exists as a problem with all electronics.

  • nice specs for the price.. non-tounch is a deal breaker for me :-( :-(

  • Will this play Elden Ring?

    MSI Modern 14 7530U 16GB (soldered) 512GB

    https://www.costco.com.au/c/MSI-Modern-14-Inch-Laptop-Ryzen-…

    $679 until 01/09 @ Costco

    Previous thread $699

    • Cool but MSI durability…? Will it last a few years or will parts start snapping off or what not like my acer?

  • +1

can someone more computer saavy tell me but isn't this a worse deal than a year ago: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/807462

for essentially the same computer? except the amd 7530u has better benchmarks than the 7430u?

    • @maulmonk as pointed by maulmonk this price point was around 1 year ago.

Unless you urgently need a laptop today, I would wait for a deal for a laptop with 14 Gen processor with DDR 5 RAM

  • Just be aware the screen is 300nits.

  • battery life of e14 vs t14?

  • Got this laptop with the AMD processor last year with cashback, ended up being ~700$, daily driver for school, the amount of ram helps massively, usable for light gaming only drawback being the screen brightness.

    • How's the battery life? And thermal management - does the fan go crazy? My MacBook Pro doesn't seem to ever need a fan, I'd like a windows laptop like that - no fan but still very good performance.

  • This or a 12 gen i5 vivobook for 580 on marketplace?

  • I ended up getting the E15 Gen 6 AMD cause I wanted DDR5, cheers
