Can this be used to watch YouTube and some light gaming?

    Sounds like a bargain.

    • +11

Well no it doesn’t have a screen.

      • What if we assume he has a screen? 😅

      • stick with your 10 year old PC and Windows XP

    • -1

You ca. Watch youtube if you use chrome tabs.

  • +1

    iPad Air is M3

  • -2

The maxed out M4 Ultra Mac Studio has a 32-core CPU, 80-core GPU, 32-core Neural Engine, 512GB RAM, and 16TB SSD. Do you think it would be good enough to watch YouTube?

    • +5

There are no M4 Ultra Mac Studio.

      • Oh yeah, that's M3 Ultra, sorry.

    • +4

Not in Chrome. Needs moar RAM

    • +3

That comes to AOC special price of only $19,233.50. Thank you very much!! 💰💰💰💰

Would this be suitable for my home hadron collider?

    • +11

      Hey that's almost my name.

      • +3

        hardoncollider? I just met her!

And then they built the hard-on collider.

        • +1

Is that different to a hard-on collar?

          • @Ulysses31: Yes. See, they build two hard-ons (could also be more than two but that just adds to the cost and complexity) and then run them into each other.

  • This or an RTX 5080 from MSY for $2800 with a $1500 Bill Gates computer attached to it?

Why not wait for the 9070xt?

      • that's big-brain thinking…he's just a dollar dreamer. But that's the correct call

    • 5090 all the way, amd cpu processor.

36 GB base RAM in 2025 what a joke 😂😂…..

    • +1

Shared RAM with the GPU too.

    • +4

Efficient memory management and compression in 2025 what a joke 🤣😂

      • +1

That’s what all the small ram folk say

        • +3

Maybe you’re being sarcastic and I’m not picking it up. But if not I guess you didn’t grow up in the era of 64 kilobytes of RAM. Eg. GEOS Workbench on a C64. Or early PCs with 640KB and 1MB extended RAM that happily ran Windows 3.1.

That was possible due to efficient use of memory. Software written these days, generally, is bloated and wasteful. It seems to be a fair bit worse for Microsoft than Apple. Even Linux will run a OS and window manager with 1GB RAM. Written by dudes who do it for fun.

          • +1

@Corgsta: Bit of both - people say Apple use the RAM more efficiently but others just say “16GB is 16GB”. Was also trying to make a joke about it’s not the size but how you use it…

You are spot on about wastage of resources in modern computing but I guess it’s a luxury we have these days and computers/software just do a lot more.

      • A given piece of data will occupy exactly the same amount of ram in Windows, Linux, or Mac. Compression algorithms will produce exactly the same result on both too.

There are differences between os's in terms of memory handling and behaviour but they are not material compared to this.

I fondly remember my c64, but good luck browsing the Web or watching a 4k video with it. A 4k video at 4 bytes per pixel is 33 MB per frame. It would take a c64 many days to load that much data, and would only be able to show about half a single row of pixels at a time, very down sampled.

    Any ram upgrade requires:
    1. 16-core CPU, 40-core GPU upgrade +$388.30

    1. then the 48GB unified memory for +#259.60
      (and further $258.50 for 64GB)

that's is a $647.90 daylight robbery for the first step getting +12GB ram

This thing better run Crysis in full Ultra details🤪

    • +1

It will run Crysis, but you will have to pay $500 USD for a lifetime CrossOver license so you can run it on Apple Silicon.

      • Or you can also get the bypassed version of crossover

  • +1

The real question is how many of these do I need to run 72B LLM?

  • Thanks op ordered 4 :)

    • +2

      M4x4 for you my friend

  • +1

I am tempted to try one of these for bulk image processing in Lightroom.

My relatively current AMD7600X and GTX4070 really bogs down once you start developing images in Lightroom.. particularly using AI masks.

Not sure something like this is that much of a step up in performance? Or does Lightroom just suck regardless of OS?

    • +2

      Lightroom or Lightroom Classic?

Lightroom Classic performance, in general, just sucks. However, it does feel a bit snappier on ARM, so you might have a better experience on something like this.

That said, purely for Lightroom, this won't net you much more than an M4 Mac Mini aside from faster exports and building previews.

    • +5

90% of my work is based in Lightroom Classic. I shoot weddings so have to deal with thousands of photos per job.

My base model Mac Mini M4 was a breeze to import, build previews and export. Using AI to remove stuff was good too.
I've always been a Windows person but I got the Mini to test if I could swap to MacOS.

I compared the M4 Mini vs my mates M1 Max and his was much faster in exports, previews, masking and denoise AI.
I was always going to get the M4 Max since I enjoyed the Mini so much so I'm sure it'll be a solid machine.

      • +3

Thanks for the input. That is my use case too.. Lightroom classic editing weddings and commercials jobs.

    • +1

Update your motherboards BIOS and put a 9950X in there.

      • +1

Issue is you could get a brand new mac mini for like 900 which will still blow that out of the water for his use case

No deal, normal price for AOC

    • +1

Plenty of SSD/HDD deals on Ozbargain to store your MAGA/Alex Jones conspiracy theory videos!

      • -2

😂😂😂 Make hard drives great again. Need a minimum of 4TB SSD

  • Do purchases at this pricing void the free AirPods promo?

    • Yes. Yes they do.

  • would they check the student ID or anything if I purchase via this link and pick it up in-store?

  • For AI workflow, RTX 4090 with 24GB would be better than the base 36GB M4 Max?
I assume CUDA would be faster.
