  • Bought (C12M-214AU) in Nov last year, beware of the brightness of the screen and the battery life. Otherwise, it's perfect for school/office use.

    • How many hours of battery you can get out of this, considering for school use and wondering if that can last for full day on battery?

      • +2

        about 3-4 hrs

        • Wow, can't even watch Lord of the Rings: Return of the King (Extended Edition) with a full charge.

          • +3

@s1Lence: All we have to do is to decide what to do with the time that is given us — Gandalf.

        • Thanks will skip it then.

    • +2

C12M is Intel 12th gen, this is Ryzen so will probably have slightly better battery life.

    • Thinking of buying this. But scared of the fan noise. Is the fan noise loud? My old gaming laptop has a very loud fan.

      • won't be as loud as your gaming laptop

  • Is it being too ambitious to hold out for similar specs and pricing, but with a WUXGA display? Are WUXGA display's considered a premium feature?

    • +2

Not super common to see WUXGA in anything other than premium laptops these days because most LCD makers are sticking with 16:9 for their mainstream/value options.

You'd be more likely to get a QHD display than WUXGA in something for under a grand I reckon.

      Eg: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/839550

      • Thank you. Appreciate it. I genuinely think I've never come to terms with 16:9 laptops… but may have to be pragmatic to pick up a bargain, like this one appears to be.

  • Is the RAM and storage upgradeable?

    • +2

      No, soldered ram

  • Is there any way to check stock levels at a store?

    Like that Bunnings nearby tool

    • Are these not online/delivery only?

      • i meant in general..

  • +1

A used ThinkPad or Pro/Elitebook with ryzen 5xxx is probably a better option.

    • Kinda hard to find those, though.

      • Ebay. A few floating around for 500ish. Probably outlast these ones. I have an i5 T480 from 2018 and still going strong. Well, except when plugged in to power 2x2k ext monitors.

        • Bump this whole thread. I got a used L14 gen2 with a r5600u, 256gb, and 8gb ram for 350 express shipped (would've been 330 normal shipping), beginning of this year.

Screen is shoddy (768p) but very bright. Battery is 90% and lasts a full day of mixed use easy.

Upgraded the ram to 32gb for 100 bucks (3200mhz dual rank so not the cheap stuff), and saw benchmark performance increase minimum 10% (CPU and GPU). Ssd upgrade isn't that much seeing as the ryzen 5600u is a pcie 3.0 CPU, like 100 bucks for a terabyte? (even the screen has 1080p replacements for ~150) So $680, better specs, more upgradable, and best of yet it was an ex school laptop and comes with lenovo parts warranty and call our service (idk what that is) until 2026

  • Will this outperform the mini PCs with a similar chipset? What's the graphics spec? 6800? 7800? Neither?

    • Vega 8. 6800/50u has 680M and 7840/8840 has 780M.

      • Thanks, and sorry for adding the extra zeros!

        • Yeah this is the same processor as my 3 year old lenovo L14 Gen 2. Don't even get pcie 4!

  • No fingerprint reader. deal breaker for me.

If you somehow find it advertised having one somewhere, most likely doesn't really have one: https://www.reddit.com/r/MSILaptops/comments/1916z84/modern_…

    • I saw this instore. Don't remember seeing fingerprint sensor

  • prefer touchscreen for school laptop…

  • -4

Where is the thunderbolt 4 port??

  • This deal got centrecom reducing their MSI laptops to same price as well.
