Following the post on the AW3423DWF here, I noticed this monitor in the outlet/refurb store.
At the time of that post, the price was $1,400+. It was dropped late last week to the $889 figure. Bought one, seems to be more stock available.

This non-F version has G-Sync Ultimate instead of the Freesync equivalent, is generally more expensive, and has a slightly higher refresh rate.
Note that one of the major critiques of this monitor on sites like rtings.com was the lack of firmware updates. That has now been resolved and you are able to update the firmware, if necessary.

If you're in the market for an ultrawide, this is the best you can do currently imo. Looks like there's still a fair wait until we see a future gen of OLED tech in this format.

  • Is it worth paying extra for new over the refurb? What's the quality of Dell refurb monitors like?

    • +10

very good question - I'll find out in about a week haha
"3 Year Basic Advanced Exchange Service" is good enough for me to rest easy.

    • +9

I returned same monitor due to red/green screen flashings and been told they will update the software on their end and will sell either the parts or as refurbished. I was like, damn I used that monitor for 11 months. Anyway, the good thing about DELL is their warranty and customer service, 10/10 experience. NO HASSLES.

    • Is this one refurb?

  • +1

Do gsync ultimate monitors now support AMD VRR?

    • +1

My understanding is that both systems are cross-compatible - for some reason I have the idea in my head that this is no longer a specific reason to choose one model over another, but may be wrong.

  • Does Gsync even offer any benefits over Freesync now days even when running a Nvidia card?

    • +1

Nothing very relevant/tangible afaik, but still worth making a note of it I think

    • Huge difference if your fps drops under Freesync VRR. If you're not in range, it will flicker like a mf.

      • Seems to only happen on cheaper VA panels

He don't deal dregs, only the finest quality.

https://youtu.be/uRx3rqDNuuk just gonna put a great 2 year later review here for ppl that needs the monitor.

    • this one convinced me :D

  • +5

Have been using Dell outlet refurbed monitors since 2016, models I had includes U2414H,U2917W,U3415W,AW3418DW, really cant complaint.

    • +1

2nd this, Dell refurb are the way to go

  • +4

I got this when it was on refurb last month. $609. It came in the box looking brand new. There's no way to tell it's not new.

    • +1

$609 how did u get that price pls?

      • -3

It was the same as this deal but cheaper.

        • +6

You probably got the F model, no? would explain the price difference

          • +3

@joomax: can confirm i got the $609 deal and its the Freesync Model

  • Does this have burn in protection?

    • Yep, inbuilt burn-in protection on mine. Still not bulletproof though, would still need to avoid leaving it on overnight or on one screen for an eternity.

      • What about burn in warranty?

        • I'm not too sure about the refurb models unfortunately - mine was bought new

  • Worth upgrading from Dell S3422DWG? Don't game, only using for productivity.

    • +1

      Apparently not great for productivity

    • +6

If you're looking at text a lot you probably want 4K, colour fringing on text is super noticeable at this pixel density on OLED

    • +4

Oleds generally aren't the best for productivity with their low life span due to burn in burn out etc. You buy this one as a luxury entertainment buy.

  • Any comments on using this for productivity?

    • +3

Well 2 things that come to mind for me, that is Curved not great for excel spreadsheets etc. and OLED obviously not great for static menus or static images in general.
This screen definitely more aimed for media consumption than productivity.

    • +5

I find that I want to game on it, so my productivity goes down.

    • +1

I have the F version of this, and a Dell 165hz 32" IPS 2k and I don't notice any issues with text (some reviews say this is an issue), looks the same or better as the IPS to me. The only issue would be ghosting if you're leaving word/excel open, and the screen constantly asking you to "pixel refresh". I'd be less worried if you're split screening and swap the sides around.

I prefer the glossy-ish screen and the more aggressive curve personally. I was worried it would be annoying, but in my office area I get less glare on this monitor than the IPS.

The colours are just amazing and I'm blown away still.

    • I use mine once a week when i WFH using office etc no dramas

  • +4

It's out of stock for me, was just about to buy :(

  • Just gone out of stock

  • Dammit was in my cart and missed out.

  • +15

Out of stock - Saved me a fight with the missus.

  • +1

Will have to keep an eye out on this for future reference. At that price it's worth considering especially since Dell are real good at long term monitor support and replacements.

    • -1

Even on refurbished items which have burn in? I know new monitors have burn in warranty of 3 years but do these I wonder have it.

      • +2

They are refurbished by Dell, won't have existing burn in lol. Plus these come with default 3 years exchange service

  • went for the 32inch 4k unit…

    • AW3225QF?
      Only almost double the price!

      • i missed the pricing error posted few weeks earlier… but this is GOAT screen and happy to take punt knowing how well dell warranty is.

  • -1

I couldn’t think of a worse idea than an OLED refurb, especially considering warranty will be more of a hassle when you get burn in

    • -1

sounds like you're making a pretty big boogeyman out of potential burn in

      • +2

I had this exact screen which got burn in around the 1.5yr mark, got a refurb which was just another returned screen with other issues, I’d say it’s luck of the draw. But burn in is not ‘potential’, it’s a definite, just depends on how you use it

It’s actually good if the screen fails early and you get a brand new replacement, thankfully they gave me a full refund afterwards

        • Bruh, first gen OLEDs such as this monitor were atrociously bad in regards to burn in. So much so that the new generation of panels made this their number 1 improvement focus.

Cille reflects much of what you can find online, people using it for work and finding taskbar or excel or webpage/window burn in after a few months, more chill users finding similar burn in after a year.

You're talking about something was was RRP 1599+ only 'lasting' a year or two before needing to be replaced or fixed.

It's no boogieman, it's just that bad…Imagine gaming through the ghost of your last excel spreadsheet on a monitor that cost 5x more than a standard ips/led monitor of the same size.

          • @Lighter Fluid: People don’t realise that they set a warranty period of 3 years as they expect most people to get burn in just after so they can’t get it replaced

  • +4

So tempting but there's no way an OLED is gonna last when it's displaying PoE for about 90% of its life.

  • +2

Confirm this refurb monitor comes with 3yr Basic Advanced Exchange service warranty.

  • +3

Got delivered yesterday and all set up. Turns out they sent me AW3423DWF instead of AW3423DW.

If you have bought one, make sure to check the model.

    • thanks for the heads up.
startrack tried to deliver to me yesterday but wasn't home. dell site not delivering until next week!

    • That's good to know / look out for.

I didn't manage to order one, but I would have wanted the non F version for Gsync Ultimate support.

    • yup, mine is the F variant too

    • interesitng - did they offer you a swap?

      • left a support request. Still waiting for their response

        • same here

    • +1

Might be all models sent out, also got F variant. I hope we get sent another one

    • +1

got a call from support this arvo, I feel like this was a listing error because the guy said they only have the F models.
I inquired about the price since the F model has always been cheaper; I was hoping to get the difference (e.g. to $609) but the response was "this is outlet pricing, it can change".
He appeared to consider them essentially the same product, just that the F variant is the "newer version".

In any case, very happy with the monitor :D :D

      • Happy? Mate you've been sold the wrong product, an inferior product, why the f are you "very happy".

        • I'm not sure I'd call it an inferior product - the only reason I did bother following up was the price premium over a previous deal ($609 for the DWF). In reality I'd have been happy to get either monitor for under $1k.

  • +1

Got an email. Main part is below

"Received response from our internal team stating - There is an ongoing investigation regarding this issue. We will update as soon as we receive the news. Please allow some time."

    • Did you get a response?

      • same as everyone else return for refund only

  • +1

If I knew it was the F version I would have order one

    • yes I think there's a few in this boat…

    • Sorry you mean you would or you wouldn't?

      • There were less issues with the DWF so I would have

  • Yep just hooked mine up to find out they've sent me a DWF as well, (profanity) sake.

    • What resolution did you end up getting from this?

  • Got my order today, and i received a DWF too

    • Received a reply from customer support today:

      There is an ongoing issue.

Received response from our internal team stating - Regrettably, the sole course of action available to us for addressing this matter is to initiate the collection process and issue a refund.

      Please advise on this.

      • Don't fall for this rhetoric, you are as a consumer in this country are entitled to make the decision of if you want a refund, replacement, or compensation if the product received doesn't match the description of what was sold to you online, keep pressing them on this, I'll attach below the relevant documents relating to this from the ACCC.

        https://www.accc.gov.au/about-us/publications/consumer-guara…

(Specifically you're looking for the section on "Hard failures" in regards to "The product is significantly different from the description".)

        • thanks for that.

Checking if a partial refund is an option.

          • +1

@petmaloo: I've already had a call with support where I asked for some amount of compensation and me keeping the monitor, to which they told me that was "not possible" and that I had to either make the call within 24 hours between keeping the monitor at the price paid or sending it back in for a full refund, I just said "i'll think about it" since I was taking the call at work and needed to go, but later emailed them stating that as covered under Australian Consumer Law and specifically Victorian consumer law in my case, I am entitled to request compensation and that they had a week to give me another call to discuss this before I keep the monitor and file a formal complaint with the ACCC and Victorian Consumer Affairs.

            • @chepsk8: waiting on their reply since i quoted the major failure portion of the publication from ACCC.
              Havent heard yet.

  • Does anyone know how often these go on sale for refurbished?
