I bought this monitor during the previous sale, and it's been flawless since. Amazing monitor, extremely high build quality, and OLED is a game changer.

    • Any concerns over burn in? Besides warranty claims

      • +3

there's always a chance there will be burn ins. some people will say " ive never had burn in " but there is always a chance. you are backed with 3 years warranty.

      • +2

3 year burn-in warranty by Dell, and the monitor also has a 'panel refresh' function that it runs every 4 hours of use.

        • every 4 hours if your panel is off/standby

      • I also have this monitor, I set windows to turn off monitor after 5 min of inactivity to reduce the screen time if i walk away, yeah fantastic monitor except mine does have a tiny bit of coil whine at 165hz which goes away at 100hz so I typically run desktop at 100hz then switch to 165hz foir gaming

    • I got one as well but returned it because the colours were so horribly wrong. I tried calibrating it, adjusting it but nothing helped. Feel support couldn't fix it either Definitely the dullest and most lifeless monitor i have ever used.

      • -3

Then you did something wrong because it's known for having good colours

        • +1

I did something wrong? šŸ˜…šŸ˜… The monitor was not calibrated correctly. I'm a photographer so i know colour. Dell couldn't even rectify it after seeing example photos of how bad it was. Even they said it was stuffed. Go away šŸ¤”

          • @Farticus: Every second person is a photographer, they literally provide you with the colour accuracy testing cert, on top of that any one who ā€œknows colourā€ would know how to calibrate their monitors but you clearly donā€™t care enough

            • @Lebofly: I tried nothing and I'm all out of ideas!

          • +1

@Farticus: You probably run into the issue with the colour profile being pushed by Windows Update conflicting with the sRGB clamp on the monitor.

The colour profile maps sRGB into P3 because most users would never bother to enable the sRGB clamp but if you do enable the clamp all the colours end up really washed out. You have to delete the profile.

A photographer should understand how display profiles work, right?

            • @tp0: I did all that an even used the rtings profile so yeah i do know about that

  • +1

Apologies for my lack of knowledge in this area, but does this one suffer from issues with unclear/fuzzy texts on screen(that I've briefly read somewhere).

    • +2

Yes I had one and drove me insane. Tried all the fixes on the internet. Monitor is amazing for gaming, however the fuzzy text did my head in.

      • Did you download the ClearType tuning tool? Has been a gamechanger for many with this monitor.

        • +2

Yep sure did, makes small difference.

    • Subjective, but to some (objective) degree yes. It's got the first gen panel. 2nd gen panel is better for text. I dont casually notice it much/at all as I type now on my Samsung G8 UW.

    • From my (also limited) understanding, all OLED will probably suffer from that to an extent, because the subpixel arrangement is different from non-OLED screens. Seems there are multiple subpixel layouts used by different OLED techs so it may be better/worse in some. I'm not sure if it's possibile to compensate with software (e.g. install monitor driver and it adapts how things are rendered).

    • +3

Yep, I couldn't stand the fuzzy text on the AW3423DWF, even just testing it instore. But I recently bought the AW3225QF, and haven't had an issue with it.

      • +1

I did exactly this, loved the monitor but in the end the text got to my old eyes lol. I returned it for the 4K unit and so much better, sorry I do miss the ultrawide aspect some times.

    • +1

It does, this seems to be an issue with OLED monitors. I got used to it after a few days.

    • +1

Yeah I bought it for a dual gaming/productivity monitor and I couldnā€™t stand it personally. Ended up replacing it with a 32 which is a bit better (but ended up using ips for productivity work).

Screens great, but in the gaming context. YMMV though as Iā€™m fairly picky.

      • OLED was no good for productivity?

        • Not 4k, and subpixel layout is bad for text.

    • +2

It is also subjective. Some people cant stand it, some don't notice it. That being said if its main use is productivity then I'd say go for 4K where it is a none issue.

    • This should be a gen2 qd-oled panel judging on its model number being "23".
First gen qd-oled suffers from text clarity and it is fixed to an extent on gen 2 panels.
I personally own Samsung oled g9 which is a gen 2 panel as well. I do my schoolwork on it and never find the text to be unclear.

      • +2

I'm sure it's gen 1. AW3423DWF is an updated version of the AW3423DW, as it added native FreeSync support, a Console Mode, and PiP. This was the very first QD-OLED panel released in the market. Their naming scheme has nothing to do with the gens of the panel. You can cross-check this by looking at the latest third-gen panel of Dell QD-OLED monitors. Many users on Reddit and various websites also suggest its gen 1.

Second-gen Samsung's QD-OLED panel was only released later in their 49-inch panels (possibly other sizes). And then 3rd gen 4k 32-inch was released at the beginning of this year.

      https://pcmonitors.info/articles/qd-oled-and-woled-fringing-ā€¦

Here is a comparison between the generations for fringing (text being blurry). To sum up, the article, if you want to avoid fringing, go for a high DPI ā€˜gen 3ā€™ QD-OLED panel thatā€™s ~32ā€ with a ā€˜4Kā€™ UHD resolution. But that is expensive @ around $1500 from Dell.

      https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/alienware-32-4k-qd-oled-gamiā€¦

Arguably, if you can afford a $1200 monitor, you might as well add $300 more for higher resolution, less noticeable fringing, but with a smaller monitor size.

That said, as mentioned above, some people might not even notice fringing on their OLED monitors.

    • I don't notice text-fringing unless I hold a magnifying glass to the screen or take a photo with a macro lens.

I use this monitor for coding, productivity, applications etc. It's awesome. If you don't buy it because "fear of text fringing", you have been misled.

Those saying "fuzzy text did my head in"… probably don't like any monitor less than 140 PPI. Those people will only be happy with 4K. Don't be one of those people and miss out on one of the best displays money can buy.

I have an Asus ProArt IPS sitting here too where I do most coding. There's no noticeable difference for me comparing text rendering side by side at normal viewing distance. If anything, the Dell wins because of 165hz to the ProArt's shameful 75hz.

    • +1

I am reading this from the exact monitor right now.

      Nope?

I've used it for gaming, desktop browsing and work (MS word, outlook, excel, one note, one drive) - absolutely no issues whatsoever.

There are a lot of people who talk up how good this monitor is and it is very nice, yes.

But I've previously owned a dell ultrasharp 27inch monitor and I've also got an ipad M1 mini-LED.

I don't think that an OLED is such a gamechanger since I've already got some very good devices, that are just smaller.

Hell, even the old Panasonic 50inch LCD tv from 2013 or 2014, with upscaled 1080p Web-DLs courtesy of an NVIDIA Shield TV Pro looks very nice and gives decent blacks in a dark room.

What is really unbeatable about this Dell OLED monitor is: -

      1. size
      2. price
      3. refresh rate

The 4k, oled bits also matter and they are very nice to have.

However, it is the refresh rate makes this feel like a super snappy monitor to me.

I am ultimately glad that I have bought this, at these low low prices.

    • Using it at 125% scaling pretty much negates this issue. Not ideal for productivity though since you give up a bit of screen real estate.

  • Oh man how I would love one of these and a graphics card from this decade.
Just can't justify the price for the amount of use. But it'd sure be nice.

Got this on the refurb site a couple of weeks ago for $609

    • +1

Really? I would have loved to nab one at $609

      • +2

It's worth checking the dell refurb site constantly. They go quick.

    • +3

So you're the culprit! Had that in my cart and you must've checked out just before me. Congrats.

    • Holy guacamole. Does one just stumble across this deal, or do you sign up for some kind of alert?

      • +1

I was checking a couple of times a day for a week and checked the website late one night (while the mrs couldn't judge me). I was really looking for a replacement for my 32" 165hz 4k that I ruined whilst moving house but this one came up and I scooped it up.

  • Need the deal for AW3225QF !!!

  • -1

Buy this monitor ASAP! I have the NON F version (G sync ultimate) and itā€™s unbelievable.

For $1100 canā€™t go wrong, with the firmware updates available for this itā€™s a great buy.

    • +1

You can update the non-F variant too now if you want to…. not that the firmware update actually does anything though

    • +4

OLED or not. I kinda feel for a $1K+ screen, I need the USB C charging and hub in a monitor these days. Its just so nice to switch from work laptop to desktop gaming by simply unplugging my laptop and having the KB/mouse jut move over via the monitor hub.

  • Anyone know if a new version of this monitor is coming out this year ?

  • I've owned this monitor for about a year now, using it still brings a smile to my face to this day.

  • can anyone recommend a good monitor arm for this? My desk is wide so i need to bring the screen forward a little on a arm. Thinking something like this? https://www.amazon.com.au/AmazonBasics-Single-Monitor-Stand-ā€¦

    • I have been using these H100 units for years. I just bought two new ones for my 2 32" units, but my old one was used for my last two 34" UW monitors with no issues, even though they are advertised as 30" max…

And the price is insane, my first ones I bought years ago were $90.. their quality is not reflected in their price!

  • Hopefully a 38" 3840x1600 resolution model comes out to replace my AW3821DW.

    • You're already thinking of putting that one out to the pasture? Mine still seems pretty god tier. I'm going to sit it out until they improve the WOLED tech on burn in a bit more. The new QDOLED and WOLED ASUS monitors seem pretty nice, will be interesting once we get the 6-12 month updates. I agree that 38" is the way forward, I probably couldn't go back to a 34".

      • +1

Nah, this one is replacing the crappy one at the office at work. The aw3821dw is a great monitor but OLED is so nice for gaming, for me 3400x1440P is a deal breaker though.

        • +1

Ha, fair enough. Would be a bit of a mad beast to have the 38" IPS for work.

  • I'm torn, I want to go to OLED and I'm not sure if I go for this ultrawide or the other 32"?

Are these the best deals at the moment for a decent OLED or is there something better?

    • +1

As far as pricing goes the AW monitors are better than most of the other brands available here in Oz (LG, MSI etc.) for similar specced models. Some of the more expensive units have more features but if you can live without those then the AW offers great band for your buck, at least in OLED screens. It's weird, but in other countries the AW is more expensive than the other brands..

That's pretty close to the best deal on the 34" that I've seen for a while (I bought one 2 months ago at the same price) but the 32" 4k unit can be had for $1480 with the same codes as above, which for my mind is an amazing price for the monitor and why I bought one and returned the 34".

  • +2

I'm about a week into ownership and wanted to provide a few thoughts —

This monitor is definitely growing on me.

I didn't like it all that much at first but then went back to gaming on a 27inch ips monitor and I can definitely see the differences side by side, both while gaming and watching stuff from amazon and netflix. The high refresh rate is something definitely noticeable in movies and action scenes are very crisp now with no lag.

I am definitely happy with the purchase and the increased size to 32inches feels quite luxurious.

  • Code still works & managed to score this monitor for $1132.55 after signing up for Dell rewards
