That's a WOLED monitor, and this is a QD-OLED monitor. ASUS do have a QD-OLED panel option with an identical panel to the Alienware but it costs almost twice as much as the Alienware in Australia.

        • +5

No, right now it's a link to a review of the ASUS WOLED monitor (Video title: Next Level OLED at 240Hz and 480Hz! - Asus ROG Swift PG32UCDP Review), which I know because I've already watched it. It includes a small section about the differences between the two panels but refers to another, different, video that goes into more detail on those differences.

              @Budju: What's wrong with 16*9?

              • +1

@DeToxin: Nothing for flat panels. But curved 16:9 is just plain bad. This monitor would be alright if it wasn't curved.

                • +2

@Budju: That was literally my thought when this launched.

                  • +1

@Sharp324: Yeah if its not 21:9 or wider, then it has no business being a curved screen. I can't believe they still make these.

                • +2

@Budju: I have to say that I've been a staunch hater of curved screens since they did TV 's years ago… But I grabbed one of these two months ago, knowing that I could send it back to Dell if the curve was too annoying. In the end I kept it, as the pros of the screen outweigh the curve, at least for my case use of 95% games/media consumption, 5% productivity…

I'm used to it now but there is the occasion that I will look at it and think it's weird, mostly on spreadsheets.

I did look at other flat 32" units, but the cost difference was just too high for my budget.

                  • @bassmaniac69: Yeah as I was writing my comment I did think of this curved TV my friend had from 10 years ago or so, they were the absolute worst sitting at 3 metres back. Even a monitor like this would beat that by a mile. I do agree this ticks a lot of boxes apart from the curve, you just have to wonder why they did it - only real complaint most would have about this monitor.

                    • @Budju: The curve is definitely one of the biggest complaints on the forums etc. and whist a lot are from people who have or had the unit a lot of them are from people who have never even seen it in real life. But each to their own, thats the beauty of having choice.

I'm writing this on the AW, but also swapping to my other 32" 4k unit (Dell IPS G series gaming monitor) at times and TBH I can see the whole screen without moving my eyes with the curve, but on the non curve I do have to either swivel my head a bit or move my eyes..

My son has an older Samsung 32" monitor with a fairly aggressive curve to it and its' really noticeable when I go to his place, but he's used to it now.

I still think curved TVs sucked though!!

That price error was a thing of magic, managed to get them to honor the difference from 1480 down to 1208.

    • Ya I missed out :( did you receive it yet? How is it? Esp for text words etc. want to get it for work + play.

      • +2

I got the $1208 one and i love it. My poor gtx1080 doesn’t like it though.

        • I reckon quite a few would've bought this not realising the GPU requirements.

          • @The Almighty Dollar: The 1080 GPU supports 4K. Do you mean you have to rely heavily on DLSS/FSR to get the frame rates respectable?

        • I know those feels, I'm running mine on a 1070, it does ok lol, but hanging to get a new setup soon.. my PS5 is wicked through it as well 👍

          • @bassmaniac69: Mind me asking what is your audio source for pc and ps5 on this monitor mate? I’m looking for ideas lol

            • @Illuxz: No worries at all :) For the PS5 I use a pair of SteelSeries Arctis 7p headphones, they are a 2.4GHZ set with a USB C dongle. There are ways to split the audio from the HDMI signal I believe, but I haven't looked into them as my PS5 is normally run through my main TV in my living room. I just moved it to my computer room to test it on the monitor and it's stayed here ever since lol (I tried to convince my wife to get an OLED TV but no go!)

For the PC I also use the above headphones when I game or need to be quiet for the wife, other wise I run my audio out of my computer into a set of speakers. Currently it's just an old set of Logitech's that I've had for 10 years, but until recently I had a set of studio monitors and a sub, through a mixing desk etc. as I was a gigging musician and producing track etc.

I've never run audio through my computer monitors, so it was not a feature I was missing on this one.

If you don't have anything at the moment, the black version of the headphones are on special :

              https://www.amazon.com.au/SteelSeries-Arctis-Nova-Multi-Plat…

I can recommend them for gaming, content and music etc. I found the sound was decent, especially the surround stuff when enabled. They are not the best headphones I've used (or got) but for my fussy ears they do ok for the price.

      "price error"… 😅

    • +2

Have they said it was a price error?

      • Well given that it has never been that low and it was fixed within a few minutes of their support lines reopening i would say it was a price error.

        • -1

Amazon also price matched it as a Prime deal, so can't have been a price error

          • +1

@Jolakot: Amazon has a bot go through and price match stuff(Anything sold by Amazon AU)

            • @Shiroi Okami: That seems like a terrible idea if it duplicates price errors, but fair enough

              • @Jolakot: Amazon has to price match the products they sell in every country in the world. Instead of paying 10,000 people to do that, they just use a bit of code and hope that no retailer they are price matching will sell products below cost.
